It will not crank over. It doesn't even click. Then in about three minutes it starts and runs perfectly. Could it have something to do with the security system????

Sure can .
http://www.thirdgen.org/vats_passkey_system

If the resistor pellet on the key is not read correctly because it or the the contacts in Ign switch that read it are dirty or worn ;the VATS system shuts the starter ( and injectors ) down for 4 minutes
Got a spare key to try?

Again, pull the codes.
A VATS problem will usually show up in module 1.1 as a Pass Key Error, 61, 62, 63.

Finderhome,

We can only help those that help themselves...

All we need to know is year! That will help a ton. Codes would be nice, and I even offered to come over and help you pull them.

Please... help us, help you.

VATS is ridiculously easy to diagnos. If you turn the key on and the security light to the left of the speedometer lights and stays lit you have a VATS issue. Clean the key pellet off really good (brakeclean, alcohol, etc.), wait a few minutes and try again.

The nominal VATS timer (for the starter relay) is 10 minutes, some will run as long as 15.

IF you try and start the car before the timer runs out, it will reset the timer and you have to wait another 10-15.

Again and again - see post # 5 & #9.

Buying parts before you diagnose is a waste of your money.
