Or something to that effect.

Ever since I installed that newer motor, there has been a slow but steady improvement in my MPG.

Latest? 17.5 MPG in normal mixed driving.

That's up over 3 from the old motor!!

Possibly less rubber on the rear wheels creating less coefficient of friction :-)

no. Bill... smart ass.

It's my normal commute, and driving in LA is sometimes an exercise in throttle control... or flooring it to clear some ignorant asshole.

I really want to go to Monterrey next month for the ALMS event... damn... 300 highway miles would be really telling.

My last trip to Laguna in the 92, all interstate, was @ 31.5 mpg.

A real test might be a Las Vegas run. I can give you a nice tip on a friendly slot machine at the Orleans Casino. Rooms are reasonable there and directly across the street is an exotic clothing and toy store!

Better than I got. Which was 26 highway and 24 overall with the LT1 and slightly better with the LT4.

70 actually (on purpose).

Other road trips driving normally are at 30.

When I first got the Vette, I drove down to FL that fall (got the car June 2000).

I left Dover, DE, with a full tank and headed west... To get out of Dover means 40 miles or so of country back roads and small towns with stop signs (not many cops, tho). Then a shot down US 301 thru Annapolis to the DC Beltway.

The first fill was in Woodbridge, VA, off I-95, past the beltway, not far from Quantico. I then started tracking MPG again...

I headed south on 95 for another 800 miles or so and filled along to way, and then stopped in Sanford, FL, just west of Daytona, where I checked the MPG from Woodbridge to Sanford.

That was 27, averaging 75~80, with the cruise on.

I then drove into Lake Placid, Fl, about 10 miles south of the turn to the Sebring International Raceway (at US 98 and US 27). I filled the next morning.

The OVERALL MPG was 25.

The drive from Sanford to Lake Placid, where my brother lived at the time is full of Orlando, Disney, and then 60 or so miles of US27, with old people, traffic lights and cops.

That's why I did the 2 MPG tests.

Bogus, those were good figures. So the difference today is all in the traffic? Or does CA mandate some kind of odd gas mix?

Everything you buy in Ca. is odd.

People in Ca. drive the whole way to Reno just to buy deck stain.

What Bill said... Here in LA, paint shops must use waterbased paints... it's bullshit.

Yea, I do wonder about the new waterbased paint's retention, long term. I don't have any info on it.

But my new gun will shoot it. And the custom colors are remarkable, just insane.

And I think the Ca. fuel's been different for a long time, not even counting the ethanol thing.

You got 31.5 @ 70??? Wow.

6th, obviously, but did you put in a 2.41 rear? 2.29? Taller tires? 5W-10 in the crankcase? Answer 'D' - all of the above? That's the highest I've ever heard.

My '94 held 30.9 @ 59 cruise (can't remember if A4 had 2.59 or 2.73), and it burned as tight as you could get it for stock...

Yep, obviously that was taking it to the limit, hitting the interstate right away. It's 6 1/2 hours to Laguna Seca from Reno but you do have to go over Donner Summit but then I5 in Ca. is flat. And I double checked the dash reading vs the math/pump reading at fillup when I got there.

I think I'm taching 2,100 @ 70-75, IIRC.

Stock 92 except for a MSD Opti and chambered catback exhaust, ZF.

I still get 30+ on the highway on shorter, 100 mile trips.
And 19.5 - 21.5 around town but I drive the car easy.

The car even gets good mileage on the roadrace track.

The LT4 PCM is a ton more sophisticated. In short, it is smarter.
