Well, got a replacement cluster from a local guy. It was a little time consuming on the tear down and replacement but after all the effort it works great. No more variable brightness problems and fading speedo numbers. I think the hardest part was bolting the steering wheel back up. Luckily a neighbor stopped by and he held it up while I reached under with the bolts. :thumbright: :thumbleft: :thumbright: :thumbleft:

I swapped the one in my 92 in about 30 minutes. Fairly easy project. Glad to hear everything is working normally.

Congrats, but next time, don't remove the steering wheel, it's not necessary.

Hopefully there won't be a next time, right?

On the 90 you have to drop the steering column. Two bolts from the underside of the column holding up a metal plate.I've disassembled it several times and it gets easier and faster every time. I held the column up with my left shoulder and neck while I started the bolts with my right hand. I'm sure there are other creative ways to hold everything up while you start the bolts but that worked for me. My tach was whacked for years and my center display bulbs finally went dark causing me to run out of gas on the highway once.(doh) Knowing your speed and other operational info can be very beneficial. I got a rebuild and testing that cost me $325 for the cluster. The local Vette shop quoted me around $1100 for the job. I love when I save money. I understand you can get it done for less than $325 if you shop around.

Tommy, are you sure about that?

I did mine a few months ago and the steering column remained. Only the Tilt was unscrewed after tilting the wheel all the way down.
