Good morning gang.

Beautiful day yesterday and it looks like that will continue here for a few more days this week. Not complaining one bit. Should be mostly sunny with temps in the upper 70's.

Word of the Day Monday, September 29, 2014

immix \ ih-MIKS \, verb;

1. to mix in; mingle.

Origin:

Immix is a back formation from the Middle English immixt and ultimately comes from the Latin word immiscēre meaning “to blend.”

Today is National Coffee Day

Each year on September 29, people across the United States celebrate one of the most beloved morning beverages on National Coffee Day. It is a morning favorite however, it is found being drank throughout the day either hot or cold and either black or with additives such as cream, creamers, milk, sugar, flavored syrups, ice and etc.

On September 29, 2014, there are a number of national and local places that are offering free, or discounted, coffee to their customers to celebrate National Coffee Day.
◦Krispy Kreme – Free 12 oz coffee or $1 small latte, mocha or iced coffee on 9/29. Dunkin’ Donuts – Free medium cup of Dunkin’ Donuts hot Dark Roast Coffee, with a limit of one per guest. McDonalds – Free small coffee during breakfast hours through 9/29.
Kangaroo Express - Get a 12 oz. Bean Street Coffee for just one penny on 9/29.

LaMar’s Donuts – Free 12 oz coffee on 9/29.

Chick-fil-A: Many locations are offering free hot or iced coffee. This varies greatly by location so you will want to check your specific restaurant.

Peet’s Coffee - Purchase any beverage and receive a second FREE beverage of choice on 9/29. Plus free coffee and espresso samples all day long.

Wawa – Click for free coffee coupon.

LaMars – Free 12 oz cup of coffee all day.

Tim Horton’s – $1 for all size coffees.

Brooklyn Water Bagel Co. – A free cup coffee hot or iced with a purchase of any menu item.

There are many legendary accounts of how coffee first came to be but the earliest credible evidence of either coffee drinking or the knowledge of the coffee tree appears in the middle of the 15th century in the SUFI monasteries around Mokha in Yemen. It was here were coffee seeds were first roasted and brewed, in a similar way as it is prepared today. Yemeni traders brought coffee back to their homeland, from Ethiopia, and began to cultivate the seed.

In 1670, coffee seeds were smuggled out of the Middle East by Baba Budan, as he strapped seven coffee seeds onto his chest. The first plants grown from these smuggled seeds were planted in Mysore. It was then that coffee spread to Italy, to the rest of Europe, to Indonesia and to the Americas.

In 1583, Leonhard Rauwolf, a German physician, gave this description of coffee after returning from a ten-year trip to the Near East:

A beverage as black as ink, useful against numerous illnesses, particularly those of the stomach. Its consumers take it in the morning, quite frankly, in a porcelain cup that is passed around and from which each one drinks a cupful. It is composed of water and the fruit from a bush called bunnu.

—Léonard Rauwolf, Reise in die Morgenländer (in German) (Wikipedia)

Enjoy a cup or two of your favorite coffee today.

HAPPY NATIONAL COFFEE DAY!

NATIONAL COFFEE DAY HISTORY

Within our research, we were unable to find the creator of National Coffee Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.

NATIONAL VFW DAY

National VFW Day is celebrated annually on September 29. This day is devoted to the VFW organization and it’s members who have served our nation.

The VFW was established on September 29, 1899 by a group of veterans from the Spanish-American war. It has since grown to be the nation’s largest group of combat veterans. They continue “to honor the dead by helping the living.” The VFW promote patriotism, good will and youth scholarships. They also provide military assistance and community service programs, promote youth activities and volunteer many hours in their local communities.

How do you celebrate today? Honor the VFW members and veterans in your community. Let them know that you appreciate the sacrifices they have made for all of us. We truly are the land of the free because of the brave.

Not only did Tommy have to cut his own grass, but he had to cut the grass at the nursery and a client's house as well. Mow he many yards.

Good Morning CGs!

I tinkered in the garage last night but no work on the car, just cleaning up the toolbench and other various things. Maybe tonight I will put that new fuel filter on.

Saw a "used" C7 sitting on the lot of a Ford dealer yesterday. I thought that was somewhat unusual, but they pop up in strange places, I guess. The Honda dealer down the street has a white convertible 89, as well. Corvettes are everywhere, and I love it.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Morning guys....It's Homecoming week. Dress-up days, float decorating and a big football game Friday. For me, it's just another week that the kids will be wound tighter than a drum.

I take the Vette over today so the windows can be tinted and the new head unit installed tomorrow.

Got quite a bit done on the cabinet that I started Saturday. I need to continue the progress this week.

Well, I got to get going here.

Greetings! Good football weekend around here for a change - very impressed with the Viqueens' new rookie QB. Meanwhile, it's been in the 80's the last few days, and today it's gonna be a balmy 60. Brrrrrrrr! But in a couple months, 60 will feel tropical. It's all relative.

Have a good day, Gurus!

I have risen. This day presents multiple tasks of which some I will undertake. First, hot soothing water to wash away the aches and stiffness followed by a few simple stretches. Aches and stiffness are the body's way of sharing a like well lived. In laws stooped by last night with a box full of Chinese food so Sue wouldn't have to prep anything for dinner. Still plenty left over to feed the crew lunch today. Her recovery is coming along pretty well though she is still experiencing some discomfort. Doctors orders. No strenuous activities for 10 days. So far so good. 3 days down, 7 to go. It's hard to contain a human tornado.

A Hong Kong movie theater asks its patrons to leave their cell phones ON when they enter the movie. Using that, Volkswagen made an eye opening ad:

I don't know yet. My buddy asked me to look at it but he is all pipe dreams and will never actually commit to buying anything. My guess is auto just based on statistics alone.
