Good Morning CGs!

TB - the desk from yesterday looks very nice. I can see why it's so heavy! I'm sure your daughter will be very pleased.

My day yesterday was mostly errands and running around with the wife. The Nissan service was supposed to be an hour....I knew that wouldn't happen so we took a loaner. We did some shopping in the neighborhood and then my buddy told me they needed to order a part 2 hours later. Kind of what I figured. Should be done today. Still no news on the OOOdi so I'll call them today. If they can't make the key stick, so be it. I hope it never happens again, but I know as soon as I leave it will...Wifey drove the little sports car they gave me as a loaner. Remind me to never buy her a turbocharged anything.

Might tinker in the garage a bit today.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Malo te ma'uli!

Friday is finally here - 'bout time - my butt is dragging. It's been real windy the last couple of days, so hopefully if it dries out over the weekend, I'll be able to pick up what I believe to be the last of the leaves. Then the 6 months of no yard work can commence.

Enjoy your Friday, Gurus!

Morning guys....headed to the 'city' to do some work for a friends' son. He's a sharp kid, but not handy at all. We are re-doing some trim work he tried to do himself, looks pretty bad. After that, home to get ready to head north next week. Was planning on Tuesday, but the weather guys are suggesting it might NOT be a good day to travel. What are you hearing Marcus?

Well, got to go, I'll check in later.

Good Morning Gurus... Well it's actually closer to afternoon. Just dropping by for a quick hello. I hope all is well. I'm getting more accustomed to the C5 and really like it. I did cut the factory shifter down an inch and put a Hurst shift knob on it. That helps a bit with the long row of the gear, but I'll eventually put another shifter in it for sure.

Darn Holidays are creeping up on me. I need to get busy around the house. Hope you guys have a good weekend.
See you around.

Busy with everything other than what I had planned. Vehicle maintenance at the garage for two of the trucks, dog groomer, nursery chore, honey-do request. Crappola ..... Florida has broken it's record this year for the most days over 80 degrees. Not a record I'm too fond of breaking.

Well, I was a little surprised at the cost of rebuiling a steering rack from a well known online place. I thought the inner and outer tie rods were included in the rebuild price. I was wrong. So $225 to start for the seals and rebuild, then list price on all of the 4 tie rods.

Rock Auto has the 4 tie rods for about $135. So I might change those and have it rebuilt locally if I can find a place.

The Rock Auto's reconditioned are $160 but they are done bt Cardone (not my fav).

$225 doesn't sound all that bad to me if you get a warranty and you know they aren't done in China.

Have you tried Turn One for the build?

Speaking of rebuilds, I REALLY don't want to restore these, they are borderline acceptable.
Restoring them would easily be 25+ hours with a chance of screwing them up. Repos are $1,300.

Aw, you know it's gonna bug you that they're not as perfect as the rest of the car - what's 25 hours between friends ;-)

AH, you guys................

Scary job, you have to remove the black, fiberglass insulation without screwing up the aluminum (its on there really tight).

Then, remove the clear anodizing with pro strength Easy Off oven cleaner.
Then sand out the stone chips 600, 800, 1,000 & 1,500
Then sand the aluminum colored painted part.
Then polish the aluminum.
Then have it clear anodized or painted with hi temp clear
Then mask & paint the aluminum colored striped
Then use hi temp industrial epoxy to attach the insulation.

And that don't count restoring the pipes themselves.

$1,300 is 3/4s of my engine build.

Hey, long day here. Got to the 'city' and the job ended up being more than anticipated (big surprise...not). When we got back I changed the alternator on the Isuzu truck of the guy that helped me. On the back of the alt. it had a toothed shaft that "runs some sort of vacuum pump". Well, I find out it's the OIL PUMP. I fight taking the hoses off, which have to come off before the last bolt would come out. After about two hours I got it done.

Bill, the hours will be easier to afford than the $1300 out of pocket. And you will be happier with the final outcome, knowing you.

Marcus, looking out toward next week, the weather is looking kind of grim. My friend, the meteorologist for the weather modification unit, says Tuesday is going to be nasty. Depending on temps it could be up to 3" rain, freezing rain, or if the temps fall, he claims up to 15" of snow. TV weatherman says SNOW,

.....hell just run em Bill they look fine in the pics...... Or do a moderate clean up on them and call them your road pipes for traveling and someday trade them out for a new set.......or spend the 25 hours to keep the original stuff on the car......engine rebuild is priority I'm thinking.......only my opinion of course.........but I am a bright man.......

Tom, no rush....we can wait till the weather is decent.......no need traveling when the roads are crap.........
