Finally got around to putting a radiator in the 92.

Bought the Champion that's been discussed here before.

The TIG welding is just OK, probably will last a long time.

Exact fit, just drop it in, hose ports are correct.

For $199.99 which includes $30 in shipping, I'm good.

Now for the bitch..........not at Champion but at GM.

Some sadistic son of a bitch at GM decided to put a big rubber air intake for the air pump in between the shroud and the frame. I think this is only on the 92's.

There's 3 screws that hold the upper and lower shrouds together. The clearance between the rubber intake and the screw head is 1/4 in., and the heads are 7mm. A 7mm wrench is only about 4 in. long (not long enough to reach the screw) and you can't hold on to the wrench because your hand won't fit between the rubber and the shroud.

Couldn't reach 2 of the screws underneath the car either but could get in there with a Dremel and a 1 in. cutoff wheel to cut the pointy end of the screws off and pop the spring speed nuts off.

All GM had to do was install the speed nuts on the lower shroud instead of the upper and you could reach them from the bottom of the car.

Hardly, the amount of work you're doing is impressive ( but I'm doing a tad more on the 67 Coupe).

Should have been a 3 hour job but........

I'd rather be workin' on the racecars.

I pulled my AIR System when I did headers / exhaust.

This was long before exhaust write-up however; I think I remember that rubber coupler ('90) ...

Actually, I can see it in your pic Chuck, right hand side two thirds of the way up. The black thing with the 2 slots in it.

Later cars get it from the aircleaner

At least some bean counter made it easier to work on.

Those 3 bolts on each side of the shroud of the later C4's are a real SOB.

I did the radiator in my 92 about a year after I bought the car and I did another one few yrs later on a 93 for a young Marine that worked for me.... neither of those cars got those bolts put back. I'm just not that big of a glutton for punishment.

That Champion radiator will do a good job for you Bill. The one I put in the 79 few yrs back is still doing great.

MATT, MY '95 HAS A CHAMPION THREE TUBE, COURTESY THE PO. IT HAS DONE GREAT, 190 DEGREES ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE OKLAHOMA SUMMER, AND THE FANS COOL IT DOWN IN TOWN.

Test Drive, 25 miles.

First, it seems to warm up much faster than the old one. I let it idle to 125 before I drive.

It also seems to heat up slightly faster at the red lights but cools right down as usual.

On the interstate, it runs 2 degrees cooler (192). in 5th.
It does the same thing as the old radiator, either LT1 water pumps or my LT1 water pump doesn't like 1,700 RPM, the temps go up slowly (65 mph) put it in 5th and they go back to 192. I have to be going about 80 to use 6th.
Pleasantly, from a red light @ 194 , pulling the 4 mile hill from the valley to my house, it stayed on 194 which is better.
194 was the old freeway temp.

BTW this is the 2 row radiator.

Make sure you get all the air out of system. That might be why the temp swung up so high. GC

Yea, the 92 LT1 has bleeders on the t-stat housing and the throttle body. Bleed them once= done.
