i must be a tad behind the times, but i figured i could just open up a catalog or grab the GM part # for my uncle at the dealer and order up a pair of rear grand sport fender flares. what gives? i can understand GM discontinuing after 11 years, but neither mid america or ecklers has them. of course mid america claims to have left ones @$159 each and "find a right one to make a complete set" in the text of the ad.

are they out there? ebay showed ONE pair - from a place asking $299 PER SIDE.

i'd love to put them on and hide a tad of the 315's that i'm putting on, already ordered my 17x11 rears.

I noticed in other threads at brand X that they were getting very hard to find.

I guess the price reflects the supply and demand thing due to the fact they have been discontinued by the General and noone seems to be reproducing them.

does seem odd though that all the parts that are reproduced that the flares seem to have slipped through the cracks.

I'm sure someone can straighten me out on this.

There has been talk about this topic for some time now. Several people have indicated that they were going to try to reproduce the flares themselves, but as far as I know at this point no one has come through. I believe it is too cost prohibitive to set up the tooling from scratch.

OUCH!

that's just not reasonable for that small a part. i could see $150 per pair but not in excess of $400

Agreed, Tobijohn is the member mentioned who has considered making these and selling them, but we came to the conclusion that somewhere around $200 per pair is the resistance point for pricing.
He may build them yet if he can find someone to manufacture a quality piece that can be sold for around $200 per pair while still allowing some profit margin. Guru members will be the first to know if it happens.

I think $50 AUD sounds more reasonable. When you consider you can go to a shop and buy a colour printer for $29 AUD, and all the parts involved in that, i cant see where these 2 bits of plastic are worth anything more.

But thats just me.

I actually have found someone with the experience to help me make them but with all due respect to Case's opinion, according to my research, there's no way you could sell a high quality set for $50 AU and not lose money on the deal. See link below:

I respect Casey's opinion too but it is just that, opinion. Lots of people on this side of the big pond seem to think otherwise, I say build them John and they will come!

I think what Case might be overlooking is that when you plan on selling 500,000 inkjet printers, you can afford to invest five figures for molds to make the necessary parts. How many C4s out there are running 315 or 335 tires and would even have an actual need for flares? I'll bet well under 5000. It's a very limited market. It's the same reason, I suppose, why Mustang headers are 1/3 to 1/2 as much as C4 headers...

Yes it is just an opinion, but in the scheme of things, its a pretty valid one. We are still talking about 2 pieces of plastic.

I still havent heard of any over here coming up yet, or youd be getting a set for nothing, cause as ive said before, people cant wait to get them off their cars here, and probably half the C4s in this country wouldve had them when they got here, since alot of the C4s here spent abit of time in Japan, and the Japanese have some strange taste in what actually looks good on a car, as well as the fact that the Japan export version was fitted with the exact same flares as they then used on the Grand Sport (before anyone comes up and says "No case, youre wrong, they were the Euro spec ones and they are not the same" Japan export models had the GS flares.)

Let me try to explain it this way Casey......millions of Aussies including yourself love Vegemite, can we agree on that so far?
Bring as much as you can stuff in your luggage when you visit and see how much of it you can sell here, fellow Aussies excluded, then you will understand!

You shouldn't have a problem finding Fosters or Coors in South Florida. I've heard that Virginia Slims Lights are equivalent to Winfields (good to know you're in touch with your feminine side, Case) so save that luggage space for Vegemite...

Ron, youve said that 100,000 times mate!!!

Tobijohn, maybe Winfield 1mg is like a slim, but the red is substantially more robust. Im led to believe we may be undertaking some work on your vehicle.

Matatk, ill drink any beer if it tastes ok, but im not drinking Budweiser, cause its garbage, and weak as water!!

Well, if I can find a second 96 PCM and someone to give it a decent mail order tune, I'd like to get the Hot Cam that's been collecting dust installed...

Yeah, time to get off your arse, John. You picked up that cam shortly after I got my Z06. That was over 4 years ago, wasn't it?! You need to get that thing souped up so you can come have some fun at the Challenges. Fingers crossed mine goes in to Roger next week for the build to begin. Interior is done! :D

Ah...there are some slower C4's out at the track. On kid (he is 17) runs his factory L98 1991 Corvette out there and turns 14.55 in the quarter. He is great on the tree, so he ends up going rounds. I just like busting on John to come out to the track one of these days and race.

Was it that long ago? I better go make sure I still know where it is. Do you know if Roger has the software to tune LTx motors? I don't need a dyno tune, just whatever I need done to make the car run decently with a Hot Cam...
