PINKS All Out will be at Palm Beach International Raceway (Moroso) on March 5th & 6th. Anyone racing in it? Field is limited to 475 cars/trucks. They released another 50 tickets last night. I snagged one. Gonna see if I can make it into the show. I know a couple other Vettes are going to be there. Let's get a Vette in each class...pad the field. LOL!

Yes, I have the hi-flow cats. My 86 Monte Carlo SS is another story.

Highway MPG is a little lower than 27mpg. At 90mph, my instant mpg reads 24mpg. Its hard to go slow in this thing now.

The puddle didn't look very deep...I thought it was about 4" and was coasting through the puddle when it drank it up.

Well, I here are some picts of the car, but you can't see anything different as far as the engine goes...

Hey All,
Its been a while since I was on last. Big news was that back in March of this year, I blew my LS3. My Callaway Honker air intake took in a gulp of water while I idled through an 8" deep puddle. Wiped out #8. The connecting rod was bent in every direction. My insurance company went to the shop I had it towed to and approved a new long block motor on the spot. Well, the shop I had it at was not a GM dealership, rather a high performance shop. The owner and I decided to do some work while it was apart. My insurance company didn't care what we did with the money, as long as the car was running after the repairs. Well, the heads were good, so we decided to replace the short block only. In went a 418 Stroker! :D I also had a large street cam installed, long tube headers, line loc (for the DRs) and a 3600 stall converter. On the dyno, the car was shutting it down, due to going too fast on it. The 3rd gear pull showed 467 rwhp. The 4th gear pull, they could only get up to 5000 rpms before the car was at 140mph and shut down the dyno. At 5000 rpms it was showing 477 rwhp and climbing. The shop is figuring somewhere just North of 500 rwhp...and it is streetable...for the most part. The car doesn't like under 50 mph in 5th or 6th gear...have to keep it in 4th to keep the bucking down. I have had it out to the track for a couple of passes and the shop is still doing adjustments to it. Best pass in the quarter has been 11.006 @ a little over 120mph. The two things that are hurting me right now are my DRs (305/35/18's...little too big, but I picked them up for a steal) and my gear ratio (2.73's...Z51 option). I drive 40 miles each way to work, so I doubt I will go with gears (mileage has dropped 3 mpg avg since doing the motor...hard to keep out of it), but am looking at getting 17" DRs. Shop thinks that will put me into the 10's without a problem. The 11 second run was with extreme heat and humidity (South Florida in May, right after a small rain shower). With cooler weather, even with the large DRs, 10's should be a problem.
Anyway, just wanted to fill you all in on what has been going on with my Vette. For those in South Florida, the next Corvette Challenge at PBIR (MOROSO) is July 25th. I think the gates open at 3pm and the Challenge starts around 4:30pm or so. Hope to see some of you out there.

I keep saying I want to try it. One of these days I'm going to do it. I think it's just the fear of not knowing anyone there and looking stupid as a novice. An older novice at that. Countyline is the closest at about 45 minutes away while PBIR is a good 2 1/2 hour ride. I autocross with PCA and am comfortable with my lack of skill.(I compete against national champions). I just have to go up and do it and be prepared to eat crow.

Hey, I was a novice when I started. The guys/gals at PBIR are always willing to help you out with any questions you may have. If you come up to a Challenge event, look for me, I am the only Jetstream Blue Vette there. I'd be happy to help you out. We are not like other bracket racers trying to win...we are all out there to have fun. And getting new people involved adds to the fun, as after their first pass you see the smile on their face from ear to ear. If you go to Countyline, look for a yellow C6 Z06 and a Lemans Blue C6 Vert (black top). Robert (yellow) and Joe (Blue) would be more than happy to help you out. The two of them run their Vettes down there from time to time. Both live in Miramar. The drive may be a distance to PBIR, but the facility is great! Also, you will be able to get in plenty of runs with the new format. The past 3 months I have been out there for a Challenge night, I have made at least 12 passes. I could have had double that if I didn't talk so much with the guys. It is a lot of fun!! Come on out!!

Yep, second Challenge in a row, I placed second. I am looking forward to that first win, maybe it will happen in March. My Corvette is running very consistent. This past weekend, I was running the quarter mile in 12.24 to 12.30 seconds. I had some luck on my side, as in the first round the guy I was supposed to race decided to go home (engine wasn’t running right and he didn’t want to push it). Second round, I raced one of my good friends at the track. He is really good and has been racing a lot longer than I have. I left the line first, as he has a faster Corvette, but he never caught up. It was a great race and put me through to the next round. Because the turnout was low, due to Valentine’s Day, the third round was the semi-finals. I got lucky again, since there was an odd number of Corvettes and got another Bye run. In the finals, I went against the youngest of the Corvette Challenge racers. His father and uncle race with us and they bought him a 91 Corvette when he turned 16. He is 17 now. His Corvette is not very fast…and he dialed in a 14.25 to my 12.24. Lined up, his light dropped and he was off. Me…I had to wait 2 seconds before I could go. Due to the delay, I lost my concentration and got a late light. I just couldn’t recover and chase him down fast enough and the win went to him. But, I was very happy with my finish. In March, I hope to win, but most of all, I just want to have fun.

Easy to do! I've done this twice...takes 30 minutes or so. A little longer if you have to remove adhesive.

Last year I finished the bulk of my projects on mine (new interior, window regulators, weather stripping, etc.). So far this year, I upgraded the prop arm for the hood to the newer style, tune up, replaced valve covers and detailed the engine some. Now, I have to pull the codes off the computer to find out why I have the Service Engine Light coming on. Once that is sorted out, it will be ready for my wife to race it and hopefully get sold this year. This is of course for my 86 Corvette. My 08, I need to take in to have the windshield replaced, as I got hit by a rock on I-95 a couple days ago. It is a small 6" crack on the driver's side. Second windshield I have cracked from a rock in 6 months...never had to have a windshield replaced before! Have a new intake coming in for the 08 Vette as well. Then, there is my 86 Monte Carlo SS...I have a huge list for that, still...but won't bore you guys with a non-Corvette project.

I used to have a C5...an 01 Z06. Here are some pictures of it:

Traded it in on a 07 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T. Missed having a Vette, so I picked up an 86 for pennies. Then in May, I traded in my wife's car, gave her the Daytona and got an 08 Vette. I miss my Z06 sometimes, but then I race my 08 and forget about the Z06.

I had the GMPP on my 01 Z06...it is an extended warranty on the car. But, GM had different levels of their plan, so you will want to check out what level you have. Then, take it in and get anything that isn't working right fixed before it expires.

100% factory 05 Z51 will run around 12.8. Throw a head/cam package on it and you will see high 11's.

I have a lot done to the SS. The whole drive train has been worked on in some sort or fashion. 350 crate motor under the hood, rebuilt 200-4R transmission to handle 650+hp, racing driveshaft & loop, Strange Engineering Dana 60 rear with Wilwood rear disc brakes, ZEX 100hp shot Nitrous, full suspension makeover, ZR1 Replica rims, MT ET Street Radials, Line Loc, custom gauges, just finished the interior restoration and more. I have way too much money wrapped up in the car. LOL! I think I have around $20k extra in the car. Here are a couple of pictures:

The crate motor is rated at 350hp (at flywheel). The shop that did the work figures with the long tubes, dual exhaust and the other go-fast parts installed that the motor is making close to 400hp (again, at flywheel). Add the 100 shot of spray and I am hoping to have the car in the low 13's, once I get the transmission issue sorted out. Right now, the SS is shifting way to early in 1st and 2nd (shifts at 3400rpm). Once the shop gets that cleared up, then we'll see what it will do.

Nice times. I ran my 08 in full factory trim (down to the paper air filter) and had a best time of 12.17 @ 117.24mph. This was launching from idle in Sport mode (auto trans) with rear tire pressure at 24psi (Run-Crap tires). Our new track, Palm Beach International Raceway (old Moroso) hooks great! No wheel spin, just grabs and goes.

Welcome to what some consider the Dark Side. I too have moved up through the generations, starting with my father's C3 to my C4, my C5 Z06 and now my C6. Each one has a different feel to it, but I am very happy with my C6 too. What other car can you take in full factory trim and run a 12.17 quarter mile! Granted, I have the LS3 with NPP option (rated 436hp), but still...these cars are awesome!

What would a factory early L98 run in the quarter? I am hovering at 14.0 right now. I know the 3.73 gears help quite a bit. I'd love to figure out if it has a different cam, but I don't know how to measure the cam lift.

Tommy....Horsepower Sales of Pompano Beach. 954-984-8040
They do great work...have done tons to my 86 Monte Carlo SS. Their techs know C4s as the owner's son (one of the techs) has had Corvettes his whole life. Check them out.

I've got a set for my 86 Vette and my 08 Vette. I can't live without them. Had a set for my 93 and 01 Vettes, but sold them when I sold the cars.

Well, the factory valve covers looked like crap, so I picked up an inexpensive chrome set to replace the factory ones (I am holding onto the factory ones so I can refinish and be able to reinstall if I want). I was also leaking oil from the valve covers, so I was going to replace the gaskets anyway. When I pulled the covers off, to my surprise and delight, were Comp Cam 1.6 Roller Rockers! Now I know why the car runs a little better in the quarter on what I thought was a factory motor. I wonder what else the previous owner did to the motor. My 86 does have a Dana 44 with 3.73 gears, that was installed two owners ago.
This also came as great news to my wife, who has decided to give drag racing a try and wants to use the 86 Vette. That is what got me started on all of this, as I wanted to do a full tune-up on the Vette. Now, she is not sure if she wants to sell the 86 Vette, if she likes drag racing. Our local drag strip has a Corvette Challenge, that she would like to compete in with me. My 08 Vette might be faster, but watch, she will end up schooling me on the tree, if we get paired up together. I guess I really need to get my 86 Monte Carlo SS transmission issue sorted out, so I can have one of my family drive it to the track as a back up to when my wife bumps me out of the Corvette Challenge, I can drive in the GM Challenge.

PettVette....nice run!!! I also ran a 12.17 @ 117.24...well, it was a 12.179, but it was still fast!!! Nothing done to my 08 either. Only thing I did was lower the rear pressures to 25psi and opened up the NPP exhaust.

I have my 86 that I am getting ready to list. I haven't been in too big of a rush to sell it, as everyone has stated, the market sucks. But, I would like to get mine sold and out of the driveway. Having 4 cars on insurance and being unemployed right now, I could use the $$$ and the insurance savings.

BTW...you will love the Z06! At times I miss my 01 Z06...but then I get in my 08 LS3 and quickly forget about it.

Do you have your cell phone in your pocket with the fob? I have had weird issues whenever my cell is in the same pocket as my fob. Apparently, some cells can interfere with the signal of the fob. Just another idea.

OK...just talked to the track manager and here is the schedule of events for Saturday, November 22nd:

11:00am - Gates Open
12:00pm - Qualifying Runs/Test & Tune begins
4:30pm - Mandatory Drivers Meeting for ALL CHALLENGES
5:00pm - Eliminations begin

You have to be at the track and ready to get tech'ed in before 4:30pm. If you are not at the drivers' meeting, you will not be in the Challenge. If you miss the Qualifying, but make it in time for the Drivers' meeting, you can still race, you will just be racing "blind" as you won't know what to dial in on your first run.

The way the Qualifying Runs/Test & Tune will be run is the Challenge Drivers will get a qualifying run, then the Test & Tune will run. Once the Test & Tune runs are done, then it will be back to qualifying runs for Challenge drivers. This will continue until 4:00pm or so. This gives the possiblility of more than 2 qualifying runs (3 or maybe even 4 qualifiers, depending on the number of Test & Tune cars). Challenge drivers will get a minimum of 2 qualifiers...as long as you are there and tech'ed by 12:00pm. You can come later and can get in your qualifying runs with your Challenge Class, but you may not get 2 runs in, if you miss any of your Challenge Class qualifying runs.
Challenges that are being run:
Corvette Challenge
GM Challenge (any GM except Corvettes)
Truck Challenge
Mustang Challenge
Mopar Challenge
Z Challenge (open to: 240Z, 260Z, 280Z, 300Z, 350Z)

RPO codes are in the glove box (on dash, not center console). Z51 would have cross drilled rotors in 05. But, it is possible, if it has them, that the guy added cross drilled rotors. If I were you, I'd ask to see the RPO sticker. If they want $39k for it, tell them they are on drugs! I picked up my 08 with 11k miles (fully loaded with Z51 suspension, 3LT option package, etc) for $44.5k out the door!

Electron Blue was used 2002-2003. Lemans Blue replaced it in 2004 through 2007. Jetstream Blue is new for 2008. It is not as dark as either of them. The blues of the Jetstream Blue seem to shift from light to dark, depending on the lighting the car is in. The color has really grown on me. I was originally upset when Chevrolet discontinued the Lemans Blue for the C6 and replaced it with Jetstream. That was until I saw one in person. Pictures do not do justice to the color.

I just picked up a 2008 Jetstream Blue 3LT Coupe on Saturday. It has 11k miles on it and drives like a dream. I think it has just about every option available...Z51, NAV, NPP, 2 tone leather seats, both tops, A6 and more. It is only missing the 6 disc CD Changer in the trunk, from what I can tell. As for the power...Wow!! I love it!
Here are some pictures from the dealership.

Nah, didn't get the extended warranty as it runs $3800 to extend to a 5 year warranty. The drivetrain already comes with a 100,000 mile/5 year warranty. And that to me is where the major expenses lie. I love the color too...in goes from a pale metallic blue to a darker metallic blue depending on how the light hits it. And power...getting onto the FL Turnpike at Sample Road, it went from 60 to 100mph before I passed under Sample Road...and I wasn't trying to do anything but merge into traffic. This LS3 motor is AWESOME! I hate coming into work, because I would rather be driving my C6 around.

Oh, good news, Matatk...the rear area on the C6's is huge!!! Take a look at a C6 when you get a chance. You won't believe how much room is back there. GM claims 22 cubic feet of space. Heck, I think that is as much as the Charger we have.

Thanks!

Nah, for the money I would put into the C4, I can use less than $ 6,000 and be running 11.5 in the quarter with the C6 and still get mid 20mpg mileage.

I got it for $49.5k. List, if new, would have been over $60k. Only had 11k miles on it. The C6 had every option I wanted as well as the color I wanted. I am very happy with it. My wife is also very happy, as she now has the 07 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T that she wanted to begin with. We had to get the 07 Dodge Caliber for her to start, but now we were able to trade in the Caliber on the Vette. We both have the cars we wanted, now.

Well, I ended up buying a used 2008 Jetstream Blue Coupe on Saturday. I missed driving a Corvette everyday. Here are some pictures from the dealership:

The LS3 motor is AWESOME! I love this Vette...even more than the 01 Z06 that I had. The car is loaded...3LT option package, Z51 suspension, Z06 style performance exhaust, two-tone interior, Navigation, both tops, 6 speed auto w/paddle shifter, clear bra, Z06 rear spoiler and more. I have a feeling that I am going to sell my C4, now. If I sell it now, I can get what I have invested into it. Also need to find someone who is interested in purchasing the solid rear 4 link suspension for a C4 as well. I ordered one from ski_dwn_it and it is ready to ship. Rear is spooled with 4.56 gears. Looking at selling it for less than the $4,995 that I paid for it. Would be shipped COD delivery (for only the delivery amount) from Jesse to you. If anyone is interested, let me know. Thanks!

For me, it seemed like a good way to get another Corvette, after trading in my C5 Z06. But, yesterday, I bought a used 2008 Jetstream Blue Coupe, so I am going to go ahead and sell my C4, as I can get what I have put into it out.

Sweet C6. I am on the fence about buying an 08 JSB as well. Found one locally that is used (11k miles) for $ 49.9k, but I think I can get the price down. It is fully loaded: 4LT, NPP, Z51, A6, NAV, etc. Looking at trading in my wife's 07 Caliber on it (I'll give her the Charger) and possibly selling the C4 that I have for mod money for the C6. But that depends on whether or not I can find a buyer for the 4 link rear bolt-in solid rear that I have on order (spooled 4.56). If anyone is interested, it is just about ready to ship to me. I can have the builder send it straight to you. Let me know.

The big thing we are going to do is take her out to the drag strip to watch me race. They also have a gokart track out there that we will get time for her to race those as well. She has never seen drag racing and is excited about it. I don't think our soon-to-be daughter really knows what I do for a living. She keeps bragging that her new Dad is a race car driver (I guess having 2 cars set up for drag racing would give her that appearance). LOL! We can't wait...couple more hours before we pick her up for the weekend. We are all stoked!!

Moroso is going to raise the track 8", so water does not seap up into the pavement, as well as redo a lot of the facilities here (bathrooms, paved parking areas, etc.) At one time the track was known as the "House of Hook", back in the mid 90's. Now, getting a low hp car to hook is hard. The track will be awesome when it is done! They hope to have the remodeling done by October.

Thanks everyone! We are all really excited. This weekend is the first weekend we will be spending as a family (don't have to take our soon-to-be daughter to her foster family until Sunday). We are hoping to have her with us permenantly by the first weekend in June.

Yep, Moroso is closing down after this weekend to be redone. So, Saturday is the last Corvette Challenge/GM Challenge/Mustang Challenge/Mopar Challenge/Truck Challenge held at the old track. Gates open at 4:30pm. Tech cards will be sold outside the track starting at 3:30pm. Tech will be done on cars that purchase the cards outside the track, so we can start racing earlier. The track will be closed all summer and will hopefully reopen in October. If you have any vehicle above, come on out and race or come out and watch and party!

My wife and I have been in the process of adopting a child since last May. We put this dream on the back burner at the end of October, when our parents were killed in a tractor trailer accident in North Carolina. Our parents had become best friends after my wife and I were married, living less than a mile from one another.
At the end of March, we attended an adoption party thrown by Children's Home Society in West Palm Beach, FL. There we both fell for a young girl who happens to look like she could have been our biological daughter. Her name is Chelsea and she just turned 11 years old. She has straight red hair, green eyes and freckles. There were two other families interested in adopting Chelsea as well. On April 18th, we received a call from the director at CHS, telling us that we were matched with Chelsea. We have started getting together with her for our supervised visits the past two Fridays, but tomorrow, we get to spend the day with her. Both of us are VERY excited about this new addition to our home. I just wanted to share our great news with all of you.
