Looks like the rear of the car is the only option.
Where did you guys mount your 3-quart Accusump in a C4? |

As you've noticed there is no room under the hood. My car is stripped down and there still isn't any room.
I am mounting mine in the cabin which is fine per SCCA and NASA, you just have to use stainless line. I did not like the spot mounted behind the differential. To much heat from the exhaust. |

Can you put it up front in place of the smog shit under the headlight? Or relocate the overflow and put it there?
Ah, didn't realize how long those are. I'd be surprised if you couldn't run it right across the front of the motor on a early C4. I used to have a camber brace and PS cooler there but moved both of them. Looks like plenty of room now. |

Well, I hate mounting them anyplace they could get damaged in an accident. Up in the front is a high impact point. These things are huge, especially the 3Qt system. I'll grab some photos of the size.
And no it won't fit in below the headlights. |

This is C5 but with battery relocation maybe it
could also fit in this place on a C4?! Battery relocation would also be good for weight balance. |

I have searched high and low, no space anywhere in the engine bay are or by the heads lights, the 3-qt unit is too big,,
It's gonna go into the spare tire carrier mounted to a strip of aluminum, that will be bolted to the metal strap that goes up the center of the outside of the tire carrier,, considered a thick 3/4 or 1" thick piece of wood as well. ideal spot would be to mount it on the spare delete brace, but they are pricey. I'll post pics when I'm done, but it wont be for another week, busy all this weekend:-( |

Ok, dumb question, but what does the accusump do exactly? Is it a pressurized oil reservoir to ensure oil pressure even if the pump is sucking air?

An Accusump is basically a hydraulic accumulator that separates oil from a pressurized air chamber. It can have manually or electric valve to actuate it.
It has 2 functions. The valve is opened before starting, it provides oil pressure for startup. The pressurized oil in the Accusump also provides oil pressure in case the oil pickup is uncovered under hard braking or high G loads in cornering. The valve is closed before engine shutdown (or at engine shutdown with the electric valve) to store oil pressure for the next startup. |

My main goal is for pre-lube, you pressurize the system so the startup is not at 0-psi

So how did your mounting go?
I still need to route my hoses. I'm not looking forward to having 10 feet of hose going through the car. |

Here's a few rear setup that I've seen posted.
This one has a track exhaust he can uncork, but he needed to cock the accusump to get it to fit. You can also put the battery back there. While all the plumbing is going to the back, I figured I'd put the oil cooler back there too. On a track car you can put it where the plate is. On a road car I'm thinking about underneath. This is ZFdoc's tranmission oil cooler for 24hr events. http://www.zfdoc.com/S6-40ExtOilCool.htm I side benefit of the rear setup would be to help suck air out from under the car. Not quite a fan car, but you get the idea. |
