Why would an 85 be unique?
I bought the Magnaflow catback, rear Y included, from MidAmerica, works fine on my 87.

Check the website, there is no system for an 85. So I got these and am hoping to get them on this weekend without to much trouble.

Oh, ok. I didn't know that. I thought in most respects an 87 and 85 were the same. I don't know enough to know if that will work out for you. Good luck.

I can't imagine why they wouldn't work, but then again what do I know.

I have the same system as Dale.

I love the look of the polished mufflers.

Good luck with your decision.

Check out my previous post on my magnaflows:

http://www.corvette-guru.com/modules/ ... t_id=36078#forumpost36078

The set that you ordered it actually for 92-96 vettes. It's not a true catback, it's only the mufflers with an extension. On the LT1s you actually cut the rear pipe to install it and fit them in. It also has a larger inlet diameter than the stock 85. You should be able to make it fit, but you will need some reducers for the size difference.

If you seek out "REAL" muffler shops in your area, they can make almost anything work.

I've seen issues with "bolt on" mufflers/exhaust that were cured quickly. I have one shop I go to without hesitation, the can do almost the whole system including a Cat in about an hour.....the whole thing tucked in nicely and hanging straight...

I noticed Mid America has a stainless exhaust for 84-91.

http://www.mamotorworks.com/corvette-3-36-964.html

But the Magnaflow is 86-91. Looks like it's all in how the front Y pipe is made. What you show there in your first post is very much like what's in the Mid America 84-91 exhaust.

I think CentralCoaster has an 85. He should know what the difference is.

I've got the reducers.

The Y pipes are the difference.

84-85 have a 4 bolt flange on their Y-pipes where they bolt to the cat.

86-91? use a more reliable ball-socket connection with a 2-bolt backing plate.

You could probably run an entire 86+ system on a 85 though.

Right now I have an 85 front Y, a universal 3" cat that I welded a 4 bolt flange onto the front of, then I have a 86+ dynomax rear-Y, which I cut the flared front end off of and welded directly to the cat.

Also the 84-85 Ypipes are oval at the 3" merge, 86+ are round.

If you go to a muffler shop, they can cut the old flange off the piece you are discarding and weld it to the piece you are installing......unless they have new mating flanges hanging on the wall.

Our cars being GMs, I am pretty sure there are universal flanges found at the muffler shops.

Watching these guys (real muffler shops) work is like watching art being created. They piece it together and all the times I've been there....everything fits and hangs so nicely.

Not in Tijuana. I watched this guy cut a section out of a piece of schedule 40 steel pipe to join an exhaust system...

Next time you're heading up the 5.....in Buena Park, stop at Fantasy Muffler.....just watch these guys work. They'll definitely have someone stop by as they are always busy.

They'll replace a Cat or a whole system while you eat a burger from next door.

The work is superior...and by the looks of the place you'd never guess it. some old shop built in the 50s with two racks out front. Steve the owner is a cool no nonsense guy that you'd like to meet.

In my experience, most of those bolt on parts will be crooked on the back of your vette and require a muffler shop anyways. It has to do with the weird angle on the rear Y that they attach to. The aftermarket never seems to get it right.

I have a set on my 93. They fit perfectly and were easy to get straight. Follow the directions when cutting the pipes. Later! Frank
