I'm so pissed!

I went to bed last night and forgot to lock both the cars.
Fuggin brats tore out a very nice Kenwood AMFM/DVD/MP3 navigation system from the dash of my Toyota Matrix. They screwed it up so bad they gave up and left the screen in the passenger seat.

They got a Sirius Sportster radio from the wife's Xterra.
I called and canceled that radio already this morning.

I know it's my fault for leaving the cars unlocked, but it still pisses me off that they got the nerve to come up to my house and do this kind of crap.

I'd like to bait the little bastards and sit out there with my pop gun.

That sucks big time. Happens in most communities all the time. Most people don't steal stereos anymore, it's dashboard gps systems around here. Best advice is to hide anything like that when you exit the car and lock your doors. My mom's car was burglarized about 2 years ago, some punk kids going through it because it was unlocked. They took some change and some keys (that's even scarier....) but the coppers found them later that night and actually called my mom because her work id was on her keychain. Sometimes it works out.

Did the coppers get any fingerprints or what's the deal?

No fingerprints, but I gave them the Sirius Radio ECN number in case it turns up at a pawn shop or they find it.

He said that several others had been hit as well last night in the area.

He also said they busted a group a few months ago that were Heroine Addicts from D.C. that come the 30 miles out to the communities to steal whatever they can get easy and resale it cheap. Apparently some of them got caught red-handed and turned in the others.

Simply maddening!

I've been there. Drove home in my MR-2, sitting in broken glass from an attempt at removing my brand new Alpine CD player back in '89.

And in '87 I woke up one morning to find the hood of my '72 Beetle in my back yard. Another failed attempt to steal a stereo.

Bastards!

I hope they find the suckholes who did this to you.

Don't tell the insurance company you left em unlocked!

You may even have to bust the side window out to get any coverage.

NOT TRUE! My insurance company stated that locked or not its still concidered stolen and they were going to cover me for my stolen equiptment (minus deductable) but the cops found the pukes and returned what was mine!

Hmm. I asked that specific question on my homeowner's policy and a previous rental policy and they said there had to be forced entry.

A good question to ask before you need to know!

that sucks, it makes you feel violated and theres nothing you can do about it except pay. If only you could catch them in the act..

Park mine on the street and purposely leave it dirty and the interior not so neat to make people want to pass on by.
You almost have to these days, at least out here.

I haven't decided if I'm gonna call the insurance company yet. I found an almost identical Kenwood system with navigation for around $800, but its not a Kenwood Excelon, (whatever that means) mine was an Excelon. I think it is supposed to be better, or at least they cost more.

The Sirius radio is only $140 to replace, so I can get it all back to status quo for around a grand. Sucks!!!!

I need that money to tie up some lose ends on the Vette, not pay for stupid crap like this.

I just got off the phone with my Insurance guy. He was very nice and said that it was covered by my comprehenive with a $500 deductible per policy. This means that Kathie's car will not be covered since the Sirius equipment is only $150 at the max. However he will pay for the purchase and installation of a new DVD/Nav system for the Matrix with me paying $500.

He also said that this is a "no fault" claim and that it will have no influence on my future rates. Also said that "locked or unlocked" doesn't matter in this situation.

Question is... do I believe him?

I told him I'd have to think it over tonight and look around for a place to buy and install. I'd install it myself, but I'm about all installed out at the moment trying to get my Vette finished by the end of the month of Ocean City Corvette Weekend on Oct. 3rd.
