It's an electrical part in the blower housing of my '98 Jimmy, and it 'seizes' sometimes, and it takes a light knock with a knuckle on the housing to get the fan circuit closed.
Anybody know the part? Replacement time? And what about the 'cut-on-dotted-line' marking on the housing? I'm not into hackin' the box blind... The notation says, "Cut here for service". Cut the whole box? |

Relay? Maybe the fan itself is sticking.

Could be a relay there jsup... I'm not sure. Not the fan itself tho', I'm sure of that. But anytime it doesn't come on, just a little hit, and its spinnin'. I know the broken part is in the housing; I haven't cut the box yet. ??? |

THere was no pic before...now that I see it, can't be a relay, they would make a relay accessible.
No idea. |

No idea. I remember a couple of my old Pontiac Grand Prix's had scribed lines in the fender well to cut to change the blower motor.

I'm guessing it's some blower control module. Why don't you write down the part number and google it - that should tell you what it is.
From the pics it looks like you can remove it, there's a screw there. Matthew ps - also looks like it's cracked? |

the only way to get in there easily is to cut it off then patch it back up..if you pull the motor its easy to get to but if its 4wd its harder then hell to pull the engine. everything is crammed in there.

the only parts inside the case are the heater core and evaporatror core by hitting the housing you are jarring either the blower motor are something else attached to the evap housing is it a atc or manaul system is the blower motor mounted inside or out on the of the vehicle check the blower motor ground and connections

Well, it ain't the part at the question mark that's faulty.
I took it out of the housing, connected, gave it a tap, and no go. Tapped the housing itself, and started right away. Anybody? |

First I'd check the wires to the motor for voltage when it's supposed to be running but not.
The Haynes manuals have a crude wiring schematic in the back that might show you what goes between the control head and the blower. |

Well I started hackin', and it ain't the part on the motor side either. Cut the box, tapped, and nogo. Tapped the other side, and spin-up yup.
I think that leaves only the fan itself. Brushes worn? Pull the fender to get to the blower? UGH. If the fan cage itself had camo, I don't think it would be any harder to get to in there GRRR... |

Not to rub it in, but troubleshooting is a lost art. I would have pulled the motor and checked for power, turning the power on and of 10, 20 times. If I got power every single time, motor. If not, work my way back to see where I lost power. |

No better troubleshooter than me. NONE. Bank it.
Or see for yourself: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=2069247 You've NEVER seen such in-depth T/S. For this thing, I started with the easy stuff. Part at 'question mark', then the part on the motor side. Fan cage is least accessible part to test. I already know voltage is there, since a tap starts it spinnin'. Voltage is there, and the blower works when it gets thru'. Edit: You're a funny guy. NO ONE tells ME about troubleshootin'. Tips, tricks, experience; I'm listenin'. Troubleshootin'? Diagnostics? Just do like they did in the CF thread I linked (and there's a couple more if you want). Listen, bookmark (like at LEAST 2 posted they were doin'), and watch, and hit 'save' yup. Tellin' me about troubleshootin'. Pfft. |
