Made it back to Beech Bend last night to take advanage of some slightly better weather than last time back in June. My bone stock 08 a6 2.56 gear with base suspension now has 2,200 miles on it. It had 650 miles on it the first time at the track...The temps were in the high 80's the last time, mid to low 70's last night... I ran about 2 tenths quicker and 1 mph better

Tire pressures were left at 30psi cold..

1st run... All nannies off, no burnout, left at idle, is s mode, no paddles...78 degrees out and 180 eng temp...60ft = 1.97 1/8 = 8.04@90.37 1/4 = 12.34@115.97

2nd run, same as above with light power brake(trying to get into the 12.20's). It spun, then got wheel hop at the top of first, then went sideways when it hit second.I wasen't expecting that, might have been some fluid on the track..I backed out..60ft = 2.13 1/4 = 18.96@54

3rd run... after an 1.5 hour wait from the second run and being spooked from the out of shape on the last pass, I left all the nannies on... 72 degrees, 160 engine temp...60ft = 2.01 1/8 = 8.12@89.95 1/4 = 12.44@115.23

Beech Bend was having a Stock/SuperStock event so it was going to be a long wait for another run so I called it a night...Plan to head back in Nov and see what some cooler weather brings...

On a side note the 200 mile round trip returned 29.3 mpg's, That blowes me away almost as much as running 12.3's

Sound like pretty good times to me! I bet with a little more practice you'll be nailing it even better.

PS - gotta love the track sponsors: "Budweiser" and "Trailer World"

Thats impressive to me, expecially with the anemic rearend gear. 115, 12.3 for a bone stock car.
Dont pay to mod cars anymore when you can get one outta the box like you did. Keep it up!

Wonder why the C6s get plagues with wheelhop so bad, I hear many complaining of that.

I can only imagine what a 3.73 gear, a small converter and a set of drag radials would do, more than likely deep in the 11s. Sheesh!

That was the one and only time I have gotten wheelhop with this car. Also it was the first time I have tried powerbreaking that much. On the street I always have traction control turned on. Even with it turned on it will still spin the tires for 10-15 feet, and then gets pretty good rubber when it hits second.

Wheel hop was pretty bad in my M6 Z51 2001,it ran 13.1 @ 109 ....I never had any wheelhop issues with my 95 A4 3.07car, it went 13.3's at 105

A bit of controlled tire squeal on launch is a good thing. That's where the best ET's happen on street tires. Sounds like GM finally got this traction control just right.

Nice times. I ran my 08 in full factory trim (down to the paper air filter) and had a best time of 12.17 @ 117.24mph. This was launching from idle in Sport mode (auto trans) with rear tire pressure at 24psi (Run-Crap tires). Our new track, Palm Beach International Raceway (old Moroso) hooks great! No wheel spin, just grabs and goes.

I read in Corvette Quarterly that the new ZR1 has different diameter halfshafts to eliminate the harmonics which cured the wheelhop.

Remember that while cooler weather is great for more out of the engine, but offset by worse traction. Drop your street tire pressure in the rear to about 20 PSI hot at the track, there is always someone there to air them back up for the trip home. Of course a set of DRs is really the way to go.

And that was with the A4. Wonder what a stock 08 A6 would do. The C6 is awesome for the money.

Sorry, I thought you had an 2005 C6.

So what's done to the Monte SS? What head/cam/intake/cubes etc? And any pics of the SS?

I have a lot done to the SS. The whole drive train has been worked on in some sort or fashion. 350 crate motor under the hood, rebuilt 200-4R transmission to handle 650+hp, racing driveshaft & loop, Strange Engineering Dana 60 rear with Wilwood rear disc brakes, ZEX 100hp shot Nitrous, full suspension makeover, ZR1 Replica rims, MT ET Street Radials, Line Loc, custom gauges, just finished the interior restoration and more. I have way too much money wrapped up in the car. LOL! I think I have around $20k extra in the car. Here are a couple of pictures:

Thank you very much for those pictures!

What crate motor do you have? And what are the specs on it if you don't mind, meaning heads/cam/intake/compression ratio.

The SS has a mild 350 in it with TFS heads, flat tappet cam (224/228 .480 lift),edelbrock rpm intake, and holley carb. It's running around 300chp, and the torque is a tad higher then that. I picked out this combo a few years back, and I wish I went a little higher on the lift, but live and learn.

I would like to put in a 383 in the next 2 years. I am waiting to see how my AFR's perform on my 421, and if they perform as expected, I would like to build a 383 for the Monte with a set of AFR's on top with a roller block in the area of 375-425 chp, and have great driveability of course. I would also like to change out the stock 3.73's, and replace them with a 3.23 or a 3.08 gear. I find the 3.73's are terrible on gas, and the extra cubes won't need the gear. Obviously when the car was stock, the HO 305 needed a gear, but it's not stock anymore.

Hope to hear back from you. Here is a picture of the SS. It has only been driving maybe 2000 miles in the last 4 years, but I love the body style, and it will never be sold.

Also in regards to the rims. Did you have to do any modification for the rims to fit? Are they 275's?
I might add they look really good! I have always wondered how the rims on my vette would look on the SS! I am not sure if I should keep the outside looking stock or not.

Here are a few pics. The one's with the SS is parked in my driveway at my old house. And how do you think my rims would look on the SS?

Take care!

Sounds good. It would seem this thread isn't smoking hot. I will check my pm's.
