I'm in the middle of swapping an 84 vette from auto to T56 (it is an LS1 swap).
I have the dash and bracing all apart. I purchased a set of pedals on CF, and they don't look like they will work. The aluminum box is different shape on the new-to-me manual brake pedal (on the rear facing end, the master cylinder side is the same), and the pedal itself has too much material above the bushing, so it cannot be swapped into my aluminum box(I wish I had the proper term for that). Also I cannot see where the clutch pedal and bracket will go. Are 84 firewalls different between autos and manuals? Is the bracing different auto vs manual? What year pedals will work w an 84? I'll try to get picks up tomorrow if that will help. Thanks in advance! -Shaun- |

Centralcoaster was very helpful with some of the ZF6 specific stuff, and most everything else I had to figure out while laying on my back with my feet in the hatch. Thanks Joe, I actually already have that link bookmarked.
I got info that maybe 90+ pedals are different, maybe that is what I got. I'm told 90+ doesn't have the aluminum cross brace under the dash. That would explain the difference in shape. |

I have to run right now, but I have a ton of pictures of dashes apart on 89-91 so maybe we can figure out a solution. The brake pedal however is the same and should work. The pedal itself. 84-85E pedals have a larger pin to engage the m/c eyelet. I thought it only changed after that in 1990, which is when the interior was changed.
I would look for a late85-89 pedal. I don't know of any firewall differences. I would be surprised if there was. |

I'm confused, you point out that there is an 84-85E C4, then when this guy is using an 84 chassis, you suggest that he looks for an 85-89 pedal.
Does that not confuse anyone else? It is almost reverse from what I thought you should say. Understand, I have no clue either way, I'm just curious for discussion sake. |

I believe the 84-85E pedal is NLA and superceded by the later pedal. And all the master cylinders now are designed to fit the 86+ pin size anyways.

My car was an early swap. It actually uses C5 style stands and has triangular chunks welded to the frame to mount to.
I'm not super confident in the welding, or placement (I don't even know who did it). I'm considering cutting all that out and finding stock frame mounts and going w speed hound or universal mounts. I want to run the melrose headers. The car currently have what I believe are f-body shorty headers. I already deleted the HVAC stuff, and it clears the firewall otherwise. I feel for guys doing street car C4 LS1 swaps. Deleting the HVAC stuff made things way easier! |

Just keep it stock and buy some wax and polish and a new duster(CF reply).
Lets get back to arguing which is better mothers or meguires(CF comment also) I was banned from CF, couldn't get into that waxing thing. Go ahead and rock that T56 hard. |

Anyway, back on track. I have a some-what local guy (also LS1 swapping an 84) going from manual to auto. He stopped buy and we traded pedals. They look like they will work (the ones I have must be 90+) , and he didn't see a lot that was different fire-wall wise. Hopefully I will get some garage time soon and get the pedals installed. The bad news is after getting the (correct) clutch pedal, the LS1 F-body clutch master will definitely not work... ---side note: Brian, you are still the King of the Avatar!! WOW |

The vette master is a pretty standard design. It's the fbody one that's the oddball.
Whichever vette master you use, check and make sure the bore is about the same. Otherwise you might be getting too much or not enough throwout bearing movement. |
