I haven't visited that site in a few years. If I remember it had some sections that never would have been accepted on CF. I wonder if the new owner will jettison them.

ThirdGen fits into their goals...

I am of a mind that thinks IB's main goal is to corner the market on automotive themed social networking sites, then, open their own auto parts vendor solution. Considering the socialistic nature of CF, and I suspect those rules will trancend the entire enterprise, which means they will have their own insular monopoly.

Best of luck to them they can have CF and all the forums they can afford to buy . I just assume spend no more time on a forum whose newest owner looks at members strictly in terms of numbers. They don't care the least bit about the quality of content just as long as the member numbers continue to rise and look good on their balance sheets.

I'll be right here with the true enthusiasts and good friends :thumbright:

DM. If I recall they had sections on "Babes" (it wasn't pornographic but I've seen milder avitars taken down on CF), and a section on "Kill Stories". I might have DM confused with some other site, as I said it's been quite a while since I visited there>

Here's my take on it.

They'll try to corner the auto-enthusiast/auto sales net market, try to build it up by cross linking and selling ad space (the pop-ups and such), then in a few years, attempt to sell at a HUGE profit.

They're not auto enthusiast, they're business people...and arrogant ones at that! I sent them a direct e-mail the other day and still haven't heard back.

If the other buy-outs go as the corvette forum did, they'll be buying empty lots before long...

Unfortunately, there will always be newbies that don't know the truth or have never known the "old ways" and those people will allow companies such as IB to survive

As long as people such as Troy and the rest are willing to sell out (not that I blame him mind you), there will always be room for new, personalized enthusiasts sites such as this and a few others.

That's what I was trying to say a few posts up.
If they keep pissing their members off and kicking them off.members wich are the sponsors clientell and the sponsors see this.
Especially if the members complain about how the adds are placed and how they are treated.
Not to smart of this IB,is it?

Just think about it, when a sports celebrity athlete screws up and pisses the fans off, then the sponsors think about pulling the endorsements,
These IB people aren't thinking very smart,If they would think about it then they would know that the site members REALLY pay their bills.
The members gottem by the short and curlies,if they use there CONSUMER influence.

Problem is, the members in general do not pay thier bills. It's the advertisers that carry most of the load followed by the vendors then the supporting members.

An exodus such as seen on Corvette Forum can certainly have a trickle down effect; but as previously stated, as long as there are newbies to look and buy, they vendors will stay.

I have a free 411 service that I use instead of paying the local carrier or Next-Hell for thier service. It requires me to listen to a 15 second or so ad. When i tell the automated system what I'm looking for (category) it aparently triggers an ad for a like product from one of thier advertisers. I simply ignor the ad and mentally thank the advertiser for the free service

If I were an advertiser on one of the forums however, and knew the owners were purposefully posting pop-up or other ads that competed directly with me in my thread (whether I can "see them" or not is irrelevant!) then I'd be pissed!!!

I can't understand why the advertisers stay unless they're still getting bang for thier buck?

Another good reason for them to remove all the more knowledgable members from the forum is there is alot of SH*T sold by vendors that simply does not work, and many other items that dont go close to the hype (the magical chip being a very prime example).

Without the likes of people that know how motor vehicles work and know it is a farce and doesnt do what it claims to do, many more people will be prepared to buy these items cause there will be very few people to tell them its not going to get them the power it claims.

This is where people like me that have nothing to gain cost the "vendors of junk" a few sales, cause i tell it how it is.

Thirdgen is one of their earlier aquisitions, and limited in scope, so it doesn't surprise me that IB's presence isn't noticeable there.

CF on the other hand, was probably a huge purchase/investment and I'm sure they have it all planned out on how to squeeze as much money out of it as possible. The older gen forums on there are just along for the ride. C1-2-3-4 members aren't lining the vendor's pockets like the bolt-on queens in the newer sections.

Allowing testy, critical users on there that occupy the mods time and interfere with junk vendors, whether knowledgeable or not, doesn't fit into their business model. People don't go there for tech info, they go there to be coddled and sold on the "Corvette lifestyle". Most idiots spend their whole lives fortifying their ignorance, so the last thing they want is someone more knowledgable to disagree with them.

It's nice to feel missed and pretend you're a crucial piece of the puzzle, but in the end, CF will go on, and continue to get bigger, and worse, by the day, with or without you, or any of us.

Yeah, that's mostly the newer gens, but if most of us with older C4s like myself were to tell the truth,we try to find used and cheapest that we can get, because of the income. But when we entered the forums it was the older and supposedley wizer members that were pushing the CF sponsors such as ecklers and tire rack. and it wasn't until it changed hands that I heard people starting to give any of the sponsors bad reviews.
And whenever they did give a bad review or opinion,There would be half a dozen others jumping their case. And I'm sure that in the C5 and C6 it's 10 times worse.

I find your comment about the pushing of Ecklers and Tire Rack.

First off, Ecklers is so overpriced that anyone in their right mind would never do such a thing - unless they were the only known source for the part, which does happen with most interior parts. Personally, I only suggest Ecklers as a last resort, and what I find interesting, people have been bashing on Ecklers for their horrid customer service for the last two or three years.

Secondly, The Tire Rack ROCKS! I haven't found a better deal, to be honest.

bogus,I should have put that different,I wasn't talking about you in that post,I was just saying that when I was a newb and dummer than I am now, that I would take others advice and go to those places and think that it was impossible to even get my Vette halfway fixed up because the prices for everything were outrageous and people talked like it was nothing to get a full set of rims and tires or stuff for moding their engines.
And I was there only since this March or april and Yes the people pushed the sponsors.
When someone would say a negative coment about it,they would Usually get dogpiled on from the ones that did like the sponsor.
It wasn't as free as people talk it up to be.
It was a money maker then also just not as cut throat maybe as it is now.
And it was never as Free Spirit and nice as this site is right now.
You've done wonders with this place,You never hear "shut the f**ck up newb" over here like I did when giving my opinion on the other site.
It had to make the newbs intimidated at the time, that's all I'm saying.
Having knowledge and tech info is good, but don't forget that we are here for the poor Corvette Lifestyle also.
All tech and no screwing around makes for a dull week .
I LOVE THI SITE. :thumbleft:

:me2:

I just bought a set of tires for my wife's Lincoln. I got a price from Tire Rack then went to my mechanic to see what he could do (he can usually give me a brake on anything). He said he couldn't come close to their price so I order them, had them shipped to his garage and he put them on.

Place isnt the same without everyone else there. Tons of unanswered questions, board is moving real slow over there.
No humor which is what I really miss. CC and plenty of others were always good for a laugh in addition to a straight no BS answer.

THere are paying members who hang around and wait for good info that they now cant get wether it be from payuing members or not .

That is a huge misatke if revenue is their primary concern...

Look at the ZR1 sec there tonight..Someone got on and started 2 pages of threads with same titels and nothing else...Sabotaging it .That area is worthless without Jeff there .Plenty of pizzed off dudes there .

I find myself hesitant to post. A wisecrack or a hint of sarcasm gets me banned now? Granted most of them I deserved and Im not even referring to the one C4 mod who I suspect is pretty decent guy...Think there are others there that step in with the gestappo bit.

This hobby is fun...Forums should be also. JMO.

unless I were to get the boot again there Ill be around, but I find lately I dont post as much. I get bored easy .

I've found that, in general the C4 owner is more of a hands on person. Someone made a comment about income. There are some that own C4's because they really like the look and feel of the C4.

I got mine very cheap (if you consider $1000.00 cheap ) but it was butt ugly!!

It's a work in progress. If I put the $$ I have and wil put in it to get the perfirmance and one off styling I want, I could probably pay for a Z06

Problem is, it'd just be another Z06 , not that thats a bad thing;)

I'll probably upgrade one day, simply for the ride. In a few more years, I hope to sell the business, draw my police pension, reap the rewards of my investments and start cruising the country

What better car to see the USA in? Wont' be a Z though. It'll probably be a C6 with the Z body kit and "performance enhancers";). That ought to piss off the purist pretty damned well :evil3:

But when I'm rolling through the twisties, listening to the exhaust note, in total comfort, styling and oh, the TOP OFF...I'll try to remind myself that I care

As far as the forum goes, CC hit it right on the head

Eventually, as I've said before, the newbies will become the oldies, and the the place will go on, with our without us. It may slow down significantly, but I doubt it'll ever die.

Will be be missed?

Who was that person again?

They probably won't remember our names. But as long as we have places to hang our hats, the history, legacy and knowledge base will live on

CF not needed any longer.
There are still some guys over there that I wish would come here, but they will figure it out sooner or later.
Response time will get better as the membership grows.

IB has some crap policies that will come back to bite them in the arse in time.
