My oldest son is going to Puerto Vallarta this weekend, and wants to drive a dune buggy down there, but he had never driven a car with a manual transmission. So we took the Vette over to an empty parking lot for some lessons a little while ago. I imagine the clutch has a little less life remaining now, but he learned well enough to get us home without incident, even having to start at an intersection with an incline and some traffic. Hopefully that will be something he'll always remember.

Very cool. I was 15 when my dad taught me how to drive a stick. Was my first car. I still remember going out real early that Saturday morning with him.

Hope he enjoys the trip.

Way cool. I learned to drive stick when I was but knee high to a grasshopper. I grew up on a farm so had to learn that stuff at a young age. Now he'll be asking to borrow the vette more often.

Same here, I can still remember sitting on my dads knee and he would push the clutch in and tell me to shift. That was three in the tree baby back then. God the good old days

I had a 68 chevy van that had a 3 on the tree. I also learned how to drive tractors with a hand clutch. Try shifting those on the road without stopping.

My first car was a '62 Chevy with a 3-on-the-tree - I had no idea how to drive a stick, but I learned in a hurry!

I got a job as a truck driver right out of hgh school. Crud it was a stick. Told the manager "ah sure I can drive a stick" not. I would take off in first, it was a granny gear, and jam it into second. Learned pretty fast in traffic how it worked. My boy learned in our little toyota truck and has graduated to driving the vette.(When I'm with him, of course)

I know, Tommy, we've already heard the story - you'd been arrested 3 times for juvenile prostitution....although the judge never believed it was "your fault", right?
