About 4 years ago, I had a Hotcam and ported heads installed. Since then, my '93 has always stunk and run rich. I managed to pass emissions before, but this time I failed. I've had trouble with split BLMs, usually around 135-145. Today, I received a new chip from Alvin. Started up, idled fine, and ran good. However, the stink would kill a skunk. BLMs are no longer split, they are both at 161! I checked what I could with my Autoxray and fuel pressure gauge. TPS at 0.54, fuel pressure 43 psi with no vaccum, 36 with vacume (how in the hell do you spell that word?) The only other thing that Alvin's directions say to check is the IAC voltage. I can't find anything in the FSM on how to do that. Can I even do anything to it with a '93? HELP. If I can't pass emissions, this car is history.

Your car has maxed out the blms and is dangerously lean. I wouldn't drive it until this situation is fixed.

I've never measured it, and the FSM doesn't say much. I know it's a stepper motor, but I'm not sure how voltage is measured across it.

My 85 electrical diagram shows two coils in there, with a high and low wire for each coil.

Coil A:
High = light blue, pin A
Low = lt blue/black, pin B

Coil B:
High = green/white, pin C
Low = lt green/black, pin D

A couple of new thoughts. I didn't mention it, but my air conditioning blower wouldn't respond today. Also, it just got dark, so I went out to fire her up. First thing that I noticed was my interior lights wouldn't come on. Strange. After starting, I saw an intermittent flash of light coming from somewhere down around the opti. Then I saw a very occasional flash of light towards the back of the engine. I'm thinking that my plug wires are shot. Sound like something that would make me fail emissions? What a PITA!

Plug wires? That would be a good thing. I wish it was that easy finding gremlins. Riggin friggin sasaphras modeckin pain in the rectum hell it killed em.

Mine failed emissions here recently too. I had a bad 02sensor. It was lazy. It didn't react fast enough. I would check to make sure the 02 sensor is reacting correctly.
Any light show under the hood would a good thing to investigate too.

I discovered another screw-up on my part. On my order form, I listed 26 lb SVO injectors. They are blue-tops, so they should be 24lb., right? This would greatly contribute to the really high BLMs, right? I'm waiting for Alvin to call me back and discuss.

The rating on these injectors is highly debated. Alvin never returned my call, so I sent him an e-mail discussing the problem. What's weird is that when I got home, I put the old chip back in. The BLMs were really low! Like 108-115. WTF? I drove it for awhile and the BLMs were 128 and 134. Almost perfect. I'm dazed and confused. I bought some new plug wires also. As soon as it gets dark, I'll fire here up again and see where the light show is coming from.

not so much debate. They are 24lbs at 39 PSI.

Considering that the stock LT1 injector is 26 PSI, the added rate of a 24# injector at 43 PSI is just fine.

The sparks were caused by a bad set of wires. I would also be worried about a bad opti cap.

I would also check plugs. If you are using the stock AC Delco platinum plugs, they pucks could be gone. That takes a properly set plug from .050 up to .065. Can you say miss?

I would highly recommend finding a good local tuner who can do a dyno tune. It's so much better.

The 39 PSI thing is a myth. I posted flowcharts on these years ago, and so have others. I've yet to see a flowchart result showing them flowing 24lbs/hr at 39psi.
