I was all set to cut to the chase and just go buy a Craftsman brand but then I read the user comments on the models listed online. Anyone got any other suggestions? While weight and lift height are factors, durability is far more important. Almost everyone who commented on the Sears products mentioned that their jacks were leaking or broken after a year or two, and not because of heavy use either. TIA...

I've had my Harbor Freight low profile aluminum jack for 1 1/2 years now and it's performed flawlessly. It did see its fair share of use, too. Cost around $129 or so. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

Yep, I've seem brand new Sears aluminim ones leak.
TireRack has one I'm thinking about getting. Also, Harbor Ft has an adapter that's 4in.square with a thick rubber pad. It works nicely if you're using the jack points noted in the FSM. |

Thanks, was it the U.S General Rapid Pump 3K lb one? They have it listed for $149: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf ... item.taf?itemnumber=47246 Quote:
Do you have a part number or name by chance? I tried searching their site for "jack adapter" and even just "adapter" and found nothing... |

If you can find one, get an AC Hydraulics. They are pricy, but kick ass.
http://www.asedeals.com/hydraulicjacks2.html for more info. I have read that maybe they are no longer being imported. Shame... a real shame... |

I got a low-profile jack a couple years ago from NAPA on sale for $199 - had been $249. So far I've been pleased with it, but it is not light.

This is the TireRack: http://www.tirerack.com/accessories/detail.jsp?ID=67
But, don't have any experience with it. $169 We had a HF in the raceshop and a Jeg's in the racetrailer, the only thing I didn't like about the HF was the release was very quick as you turned the handle, a little difficult to control. The Jeg's was very smooth. |

Go back and search "jack pad" instead of adapter, my bad. You'll come up with 2, $5 & $8. I have the black, square one and us it more that the metal pad. The red, round one probably fits a speciftc jack pad diameter. The black one has a metal stud thet goes in the jack hole. |

That's it. I like it. But like Bill said you have to be careful letting it down because it if you twist the handle too quick it will fall quickly. I got it on sale. Matthew |

My HF racing jack leaks. It's fine for quick stuff or getting the car on jackstands, but not for holding an engine up or anything overnight. I really don't like the quick release... makes it hard to drop onto jackstands or lower the car safely. Fun though if you're dropping the jack like a wannabe Nascar pit crew. |

That's one thing in particular that I like about my NAPA jack - it's easy to let the car down slowly. |

The HF racing jack sucks for getting the car up high.
For that I'd recommend this one from Summit. My friend has one, and next time I need to borrow it, I'll just buy it. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G1020/?image=large |

I gave up on a spare and jack a long time ago. I had a flat once and the jack wouldn't fit under the car with the tire flat. I had to call roadside assistance. I figured it was easier to do that and I could delete the jack and spare altogether. It's been 12 years and I haven't had a flat on ANY of my cars. Go figure.
