Good Morning CGs!

Welcome to reality, it's Monday.

Seems we had a lot of late activity for yesterday's chat, but I'll roll it into today as opposed to extending that one.

First order, Pete, very sorry for you and your family and best wishes

Brad, glad you got the LT4 fired up! I bet you are gonna love the new cam and everything. And to think that 3 months ago you never would have thought you were capable of something like this - amazing, huh?

Tom - those cabinets look awesome! What are they, maple? I think you have some new customers from CG lined up, but the delivery fees might kill em

Joel - good luck to your daughter on a quick and safe delivery for the baby, and congrats!

Now as far as me, I took a vacation day for today, so I'm gonna lounge. I've worked hard around the house the last 3 days, so I'm gonna relax. Actually got a little sunburn yesterday and the sun wasn't even out. Ugh. Though I was safe, so I didn't put on sunblock, but no. Oh well.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Morning...The grandsons are here and fighting already I'm up and feel pooped, I didn't sleep that well last night. I need to put all my tools away, yesterday I just unloaded them all in the shop.

Matt, yes they are hard maple (sugar maple), they just have a clear lacquer finish on them, no stain. Yea, the cabinet would be reasonable, but you are right the delivery would be a killer. On to the next project...

Later guys.

Morning guys, I got to get back to work on my hardwood floor install. I'm going to just buy a flooring air staper rather than renting one. At least, there's no sawdust in the house anymore.

TeeBee- Dis you build those cabinets? Very nice. That's my next project.

Good morning! Soreness abounds - I was so stiff when I got out of bed, I almost fell over - LMAO! Seems to be getting better now, though. That was a lot of work for a pencil-pusher. The C-beam bolts gave me a workout - the beam plates worked great, though. Sure feels good to have the old girl back on the road.

Bill, yes I built the cabinets...for those of you who don't know, I am a high school woodworking/drafting teacher (30 years). And I do custom cabinetry and furniture as a side. Next year after I retire, I plan on doing this to supplement my retirement pension.

Cabinets are not all that difficult to do, having the right tools is a key to making things easier.

I've built some furniture, should post some pics. Probably about highschool quality.

Yes, having the right tools is very important. My wood working stuff is basic. My portable radial arm saw has to live on top of my tablesaw just because I'm out of room, too many mechinical tools, no floorspace left.

I think buying tools is way better than renting or borrowing. I just ordered a Grex flooring stapler to do 2 rooms, $170 shipped. To rent one for 4 days is $140.

Went to Greenville SC yesterday and did the walk aound Reedy Falls. Hung out while the ladies shopped and spending time with the in-laws and neices. Cranked up the BBQ Saturday night and unfortunately for me, I was too close to the vinyl siding of the house. Ooops! Little bit of warpage. I volunteered to pay for the damages but Pops won't let me take care of it. If I would be here a couple more days I have had it taken care of. I believe in paying for my mistakes. I guess that's why I'll never have any real money. LOL

Hey Tommy! Maybe you can do something nice for the FIL on the sly. I was just thinking that it's a good thing you're done working, as it would be hard to fit that into your schedule ;-)

Good morning, Gurus!

Sounds like everyone's weekend was productive! Mine was as well - not in the hard labor sort of way, but I got a huge project done and off to a client, and he is very happy this morning.

Also had time, yesterday, to watch part of the Infineon and F1 races.

Now what to do today...I think I'm going to make some cookies.

Word of the Day for Monday, June 22, 2009

copse
\KOPS\, noun:

A thicket or grove of small trees.

Copse derives from Old French copeiz, "a thicket for cutting," from coper, couper, "to cut." It is related to coupon, at root "the part that is cut off."

Bill, I would absolutely agree with you on the buying of tools as compared to renting. I have several tools that I own because it was cheaper to buy than to rent for the time I needed them. Cabinets, like those I built, can be done pretty easily with a skilsaw and a router. If you have a table saw all the better. If you are interested I could send you some detail drawings of my methods. If interested drop me a line.

This is my wood shop (have I posted these here before?)

Good Afternoon Gurus!

Nice shop teebee! Do you have a copse(ing) saw in there anywhere?

My dad sent me a VHS tape that has all of his parent's home movies on it. He had them transferred from 8mm a couple decades ago...

So I got to watch all of that today so I can make a DVD of it. Lots of interesting stuff of my dad and his brother growing up in the 50s and 60s.

Lots of new business coming in. w00t!

Enjoy the day, Gurus!

Chris, yes I have a scroll saw on the other side of the radial arm saw (first picture), I also have 3 or 4 coping saws, among other types of saws.

That pretty cool about the old home movies. How do you convert the VHS to digital?

I have two ways I can do it.

I can go directly out of a VHS into a DVD recorder, or I can capture the footage using a video editing program.

From there I can cut out boring parts, add music and graphics, and I can also use another program to create an interactive DVD with menus and such.

That way someone can easily access just the clip they want, rather than wading through stuff they don't care to see.

Very cool that those memories can survive media changes, Chris!

Impressive workshop, indeed, teebee!

BTW, I think "copse" is how they pronounce "corpse" in Joisey.

Wow, kinda like Norm Abrams without all the free machines the manufacturers give him (I mean he has a freestanding pocket screw machine for goodness sakes).

I have to work in my garage, then the C4 has sawdust on it for weeks afterwards.

Yea, I don't think any of my stuff was "free". It's taken me thirty years to build that shop, I had better be able to do some work in there.

Funny, I just re-read and didn't pick up on your joke earlier Chris.... In the picture my copse doesn't show, but I suppose I do have a copse in there. LOL
