I ask, because I love the game, and to celebrate getting my hand back, I ordered myself a new cue.. (which should be here any minute... damn UPS guy heh)

Was wondering if any of my fellow guru's enjoy cue sports?

I have gone through phases... When I was in college, I used to shoot a lot and was fairly good.

Then again in the mid-90s, I started shooting with a group on Friday nights... It was one sport that I was almost competent at!

I have an old Mucci original.

Oh yeah! Pool and beer are great together, and the beer is optional.

I lived in the bars for years. Just so happened I spent heaps of time playing pool. I played against some of the best pool sharks wherever I went. They always seemed to win by one ball. I've always been close to winning but never quite made it. You know what they call second place?

Loser.

When I was younger, I played every night... all night. In Chicago, me and a few others had a different pool tournament we traveled to every night of the week....usually 8 ball tournament, followed by 9 ball ring games for the rest of the night. The ring games was where there was money to be made. I actually miss that era of my life....was fun. Haven't played in a few years now.

Had a lot of different sticks over the years....

Good stuff, probably worth some cash. I'm waiting on my McDermott now heh.

95vette.. Beer is never optional.

I've been thinking of joining the APA league around here, but really don't think I'm good enough. I mainly just play with friends.

Like T, loved the bars too.
We usually played for beers.

But, I was better at foosball. My buddy and I usually had free beers all night after we put the first quarter dowm.

And, before I had my driver's license, we had a pool hall in our little town, scary place.
Willie Masconi was a good friend of the owner and came in once a year to fleece the locals.

I like pool. Had a table in the basement before the baby came. I used to play several times a week. In college when I was a barfly I used to play a lot more darts than pool. That was my game. I was quite the cricket player then.

lemme tell ya about that cue... I bought it at a pawn shop I worked with (did their networking and computer support), so I got it for a song, about $80.00, IIRC. That was back in 1995 or so.

A year or so later, this guy approached me during a game and offered me $100.00 for it. Cash. Then he offered me $200.00 cash for it. Both times, no thanks. I like the stick, it shoots well for me, has good balance, and it would cost me $300 or more to replace it.

A few minutes later he followed: "Since you are not going to sell, let me tell you what it is REALLY worth... that is a Mucci Original (knew that), and was made before the fire at their factory in the early 80s and the subsequent take over by Bally (didn't know that). This was a limited edition version, with mother of pearl inlays and such. In mint condition, it's worth over $1000.00, in it's current condtion, $800, tops, easily $600.00."

My reply was a rather whimpy "oh..." I had no clue.

That was 1996.

This is what mine looks like:

I donno if he will get the asking price, but never know...

Beautiful points on it. I like a lot

This is my new one... which the damn UPS guy still isn't here with haha..

http://www.mcdermottcue.com/m72a.php

I went McDermott for their warranty and maintenance. Lifetime warranty against everything including warping, and maintenance twice a year including new Everest tip, cleaning, re-wrapping if needed etc, all you have to pay is the return shipping ($27) for the life of the cue.

Bill: I would LOVE to have gotten to watch Masconi play, that must have been cool.

Grew up playing pool with my dad and WW2 buddies. I sucked at it until the age of 12 then everything clicked. Played in weekend tournaments in high school, college was the same senario, the navy is where a lot of guys where really good and hustling was the norm. Played for beers, pizza, challenge coins and ears(not ours) We have a VFW post in Granger that has 6 new tables...nice.

I was a regular in whatever bar or pool hall was the hot spot of the moment in Cicero. My sidekick Pete was one of the best pool shots in town. He used a Rambo cue that he won off "Nigg** Dean". I could call the shots. Just couldn't make them. "No technology" as "fingers" Frank used to say. Some of the stuff that went down in those pool halls, especially in the wee hours when "The Golden 8 Ball" closed downtown and the big shots would filter in looking for some action, you could write a book about.

I must have been 13 or 14 but still knew who he was.

I think he still holds the record run in straight pool, 526 balls before he missed one.
