With an auto I know my trans temps are climbing during autox and I will need one when I begin to roadrace.
I was wondering if it was possible to put a trans cooler where the battery is on the passenger side? Then a small pusher fan to pull air in through the gills. 1985 vette. I will get a trans temp gauge to verify the decrease in temp if possible. Would a deeper pan also help? |

deeper pan I dont think will work; check out this...
http://www.yourcovers.com/transpan_9297.php They claim lower temps cause the fins on the pan Also, what's wrong with putting a trans cooler in front of radiator? |

Don't know about the location, but I have read that for whatever reason, the cooler in the radiator should be bypassed when using an auxiliary cooler. Is that your plan?

Yes I was going to bypass since my car will always get to operating temperature in south texas.
The location was just something different. I would rather keep as much air flowing through the rad and condenser as possible but yes it is the 2nd option. |

I added a trans cooler with its own fan in front of the radiator( only logical place). The cooling fan kicks on above @ 180. I have a AutoMeter 2 1/16 dia. gauge face trans temp. Used high pressure Gates transmission hose and HP clamps. I have a tee placed in line of the return line to the trans. The sensor threads into the tee with a ground wire running from tee to ground, works great. On a hot 98 degree day in traffic never gets above 185, and didn't create a cooling problem for the engine. Hose lines run above fan shroud and are ziptied to the shroud housing.Trans cooler was a B&M with fan.

If you have a fan can mount cooler anywhere as you are not reliant on air flow.
Some have mounted cooler horizontal at rear behind diff Deeper pan on C4 may have ground clearance problems; more so if car lowered |

Neighbor mounted his behind the rear diff. It was fine until he ran over a road kill at night and blew out a AN line fitting. Trans didn't last long after that! Road kill hit the fitting just right even though they where protected. |

In front I have the aux fan besides the main spahl fan I have with the dewitts rad.
Would it fit between my late model condensor and the aux fan? If so can I program the pusher fan to come on at a certain trans temp? |

My 87 doesn't have the Aux fan, had room in front of the radiator. One of my neighbors put a"Be Cool" cooler by his A/C evaporator and was aided by the cooling of the condenser lines.

The front pusher fan is operated by a temperature switch in the d/s head. You can put in a lower temp switch from a camaro, or MAM makes a kit that turns it on at like 205 and off at like 185. Matthew |

You have any pics of your setup? I'm still deciding how to set mine up once I get around to getting the pieces necessary. |

Or you can just get rid of the pusher fan when you start running real coolers. |
