Screwdriver - Nah

Prybar - Nah

Puddy knife and a BMFH - Nah

Why putz around? Whip out your air poweres muffler chisel.

Yea, you wouldn't believe how long I've lived with it.

Of course, priorities - Corvette parts, racecar parts, then all the other unimportant stuff.

That's the same color as our first china set when we got married in '74. Popular then. Appliances too.

I bought this house in '84 and said "Look at that gawd awful tile."

Yea, this is a mother.........

Ans as you know, you can't get backsplash tile off without messing up the drywall. Good thing I keep a hunk of drywall in the shop at all times.

that is some gnarly tile... I remember the looks. Earth tones and heavy handed design. Yes, the 1970s sucked. Oh, and the vague neat western look that became popular back then. All with big hair.

Air chisel is a good choice. I was thinking more like C4.

This is the last of the early '80s crap in the house, thank goodness.

Cabinets are due in in 3 weeks, then granite counters, tile backsplashes and slate flooring.

Drywall damage? What damage....that can be fixed up with a little sheetrock mud.

Uh Huh, I knew this would happen, even tried to go gentle with the first couple pieces.

Stickin' new board in won't be that hard because the new backsplash will cover it. As long as it's flat - no mud sanding.

I'm thinking you have some green or orange shag carpet somewhere in the house that would go along with the tile. Bathroom? Spare bedroom?

Har, no, that's been gone for quite a while, everywhere.

How high is your backsplash? Most aren't going to be over 4". If the damage is above that, you can extend a nice tile backsplash by using mastik on drywall, or your can use hardiboard, too.

If you have to use drywall mud and have to sand it off use a large flat wet sponge instead of sandpaper. No dust and it'll smooth the patched spots right out.

I'm glad that's you Bill and not me!

The removed one was 6, the std. premade granite ones are 6 but I want to do 8" in tile.

Replacing the damaged drywall will be easy, just snap a 6 in. piece, hold it over the damages to mark, pull the olld and tack in the new. I'll replace it because it's part of the insulation of the wall.

Yea, mastik will be used, here the bathroom I did a few years ago.

I'd be glad if it was you.

No, no mud, the backsplash will cover up the new drywall.

Yea, I've done the sponge thing before, works well.
