I had to file an extension until we can figure out why I was told I had so much to pay. Our numbers and my accountants are not lining up.

Good Morning everyone! Wet windy and colder here today. I just let the help off because nothing is going to be moving in the farm sector for the next couple of days. Not to far west they have closed I80 because of blizzard conditions. That junk is not supposed to get back east but you never know.

Can anyone tell me quick if my 90 has synthetic gear oil in the rear end. I can look it up I just thought someone would know off the top of their head. I was going to change the rear end grease but the wrench said not to bother if it was synthetic from the factory. Which I doubt on a 90.

Hope you all have a better day today, it's been a rough week for several here in Guru Nation. Lock and load it's casual Friday!

Happy Friday! Well, it's not all that happy since we filed our taxes. But at least my wallet won't be weighing me down.

Enjoy your Friday, Gurus!

Good morning guys....I got up a few minutes ago. Cold and rainy here as well. I hope we are getting some of this back home.

Marcus, I don't know about the 90, I'm pretty sure that my 94 had synthetic.

No real plans for today...I may try to go to the Royals game tomorrow, so I'll buy my tickets later.

Good Morning CGs!

Uncle Tommy, the check is in the mail

Marcus - a far as I recall they didn't use synthetic for a while until the later gens. I used regular gear oil when I did mine along with additive. It's not a hard job at all. Just need a fluid exchange pump.

Watching the kids again today while wife is at work. Of course had a few bouts where they were up during the night, for some reason Jacob thinks it's time to play at 3 am. Oh well.

Probably won't get anything accomplished today.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Marcus -

From the 89 FSM - Limited slip differential rear axle - GM part no. 1052271 with friction modifier GM part no, 1052358 added.

As far as I can tell, that part number is 80w-90 gl4 non synthetic.

It looks like 1052271 was replaced by 89021671.

Rear Axle: Gear Lube SAE 80W-90 GL-5
GM# 1052271, 1052272 or equivalent
AND: Gear Lubricant Additive GM# 1052358 or equivalent

This could probably be it's own thread. I did google it and it had an old Guru thread from 07 talking about what to run in the diffy. I am not sure if GL-5 is a synthetic or not but am thinking about converting over to a synthetic 75-90 with a can of GM additive.

Lots of confusion reading through old threads on the subject. Thanks for the info!

Completely off-topic:

A TOUGH OLD COWBOY FROM WESTERN MONTANA COUNSELED HIS GRANDSON THAT IF HE WANTED TO LIVE A LONG LIFE, THE SECRET WAS TO SPRINKLE A PINCH OF GUN POWDER ON HIS OATMEAL EVERY MORNING.

THE GRANDSON DID THIS RELIGIOUSLY TO THE AGE OF 103.

WHEN HE DIED. HE LEFT BEHIND 14 CHILDREN, 30 GRANDCHILDREN, 45 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, 25 GREAT-GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, AND A 15-FOOT HOLE WHERE THE CREMATORIUM USED TO BE.

Marcus, I did the same research about 3 years ago when I changed out the rear in mine. I went with synthetic and one bottle of the additive. Some say you don't need any additive with the synthetic, others said one bottle. I also read where if using dyno gear lube to use two bottles of the additive.

Sounds as though the SIL will be dismissed from the hospital....not sure where he is going from there, he needs psychiatric help and my daughter isn't convinced he is ready for home and the kids. I doubt she'll be able to trust him again....I think the marriage is over.

Sorry to hear that TB. I would hope she would let some time pass so he can deal with his problems and hopefully come out of it a better man, husband and father. It has happened before.

I can see her side of it also.

Sorry to hear of your current family situation. I find it strange that an attempted suicide would be dismissed so hastily although several recent similar issues with my wifes family rendered the same dismissal. Three days in hospital and follow up psychiatric sessions with medication adjustments is what they recieved. My former spouse tried multiple suicide attempts. It's the main reason I got out of that marriage. I couldn't handle the emotional roller coaster. If your daughter wants out I can completely relate to her decision. It's difficult to deal with a person so deeply disturbed. You have had much to deal with recently Tom. Take one day at a time. I'm sure you are doing whatever you can to help.

Not much going on here today. Drove 70 miles round trip to pick up some GMPP lifters. It's about 75 here today. Supposed to be raining and generally crappy here all weekend.
Picked up a new Cast iron kitchen sink that I'm going to put in this weekend.
Sunday I will probably be out there tearing about the intake.

TB, your daugther needs to do what is best for her and the children IMHO. I think that if this has been going on for years then she has fought the good fight.

Man, I'm late getting here. I popped in for minute earlier but I have been trying to get so much done today...

TB - I really feel for your daughter and family... the SIL too. Depression can be a real bitch. I think I have had times when I was really depressed, but never got to the point of seriously considering suicide. Its got to be an awful feeling right down to your gut. So sad. Things will work themselves out in time for sure, one way or the other.

This weekend is our first Autocross of the season and tomorrow is the Newbie Autocross Training Course, followed by two NCCC Sanctioned Autocross events the following day. We have some great training materials and a nice cushy classroom inside Lincoln Technical Institute. That is where we will be doing the autocross; on their lots. It's supposed to be pouring down rain tomorrow for the primer class but clear up on Sunday for the timed events. Not too bad since the classroom portion is indoors. They will get to go out in the rain thought and spin around the cones on the slick pavement. What sucks is that I'm the IT guy and handle the timing equipment, computers, communications etc. And that stuff does not like the rain!! I'm not going to sit our new $4K timing lights and display boards out in the pouring rain. The newbs will be getting "Non-timed" practice runs! I need to figure out some slick ways to protect the equipment from the elements when it is raining. So, here goes another weekend without working on my car too! I really wanted to drive in this event, but that's what happens when you are the Prez.

Hope you all have a good evening. If I get any good photos from the weekend I'll share them on Monday.

Cheers!
