As many of you know, I have a weakness for restomod midyears. This is no exception:

Funny thing was the dude said something like "Nothing like an old StingRay". Only thing old StingRay about it is the body design. I am also a resto-mod fan. I am a sinner. A taste of later tech stuffed into timeless beauty. If you have deep pockets you might as well enjoy the ride.

Agreed. Nothing exudes style like the old cars, but I sure wouldn't want to deal with finicky carburetors and points, etc. anymore, nor a steady 3500 RPM going down the freeway. If I had the dough to spare, I'd be in the driver's seat of a resto-mod.

The wheels can make it or break it. I've never liked these wheels on a late model car. I'd go more period correct if it were me. (but it ain't me)

I do a resto if I had an extra C2.

But finicky carbs & points? Can't relate, I put 250k on a carb and never touched it, then it sat in my shop uncovered for 15 years, then recklessdriver put that exact same carb on his C3 and it fired right up.

Points??? Adjust them every 10k, change at 30k.

Beats the hell out of pulling codes on the dash, carrying a spare ECM, changing temp sensors just to get the car to run and dicking with 50 connections.

2 wires thur the firewall, one to the coil one to the starter.

I remember the resto-mod of all resto-mods... The famed Merlin.

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Merlin-74-Corvette/152884678060480

Apparently, the car has its own fb page. Neat.

However, the original builder put some $250k into it, and made one little boo-boo... didn't custom fit the car for his 6' 6" frame! It ended up selling at B-J auction a few years back for about $75k, IIRC.

details:
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/applic ... etails.aspx?ln=746&aid=51

In short, getting your $$ back on these things is damned near impossible. If you want one, build it for YOU and don't worry about resale. What happens, people start these things with an unrealistic expectation of cost and then get into it too deep, or, run into other financial issues.

There is a truism about Corvette people: they are of above average wealth, but not necessarily old money. Their income is too tied to the current economic condition. As such, when their 401k takes a shit, they go with it.

This is why Corvette sales in general are in the tank. Demographically speaking, Corvette people are older, blue collar types. Folks that have worked their asses off for 30 years, saved, scrimped and earned their way to Corvette ownership. Many of them will cash out a savings or investment account because they have been earmarking just this money for just this purpose for the last how many years. And when the market crashed, they lost their earmark.

The other aspect, many Corvette wishers, will sell their main home in the north, buy a smaller cheaper one in the south. With the housing market, their northern home isn't worth squat, so they have no $$ to buy the southern home, and no cash left over for a new Vette.

Just when my Corvette fever is kinda-sorta under control you have to post this! Wowzers!
Jason's (of Vette2Vette) Dad is building these now. He had a sweet maroon 67 on display at Bloomington Gold. I recently visited the shop and they had a 66 Coupe sitting in the warehouse ready to start a restomod for any customer with the cash.
Back in high school the guys used to use the phrase; "I almost creamed my jeans!" Well, after seeing that clip I think I just creamed my sweat pants!

That car was in one of the magazines, I think.
I wonder how hot it gets under the hood/in the cabin with those twin turbos.
Isn't there an issue with heat in the mid-years?

oh, Ron... at your age, you better calm down. One more stained pair of sweat pants, and you'll stroke out! Or your wife will kill you...

And yes, "...creamed my jeans..." was a saying when I was a kid. I just modernized it with the cigarette reference.
