Fiat partnering with Chrysler I think will be more beneficial even than when Chrysler was partnered with Diamler.

I have seen a few concepts and global releases but the first offering to the states that I have seen and liked is a home run in my book.

2013 Dodge Dart
Resized Image

No, I probably won't ever own one. It's too small and not powerful enough for me. But, I like what I see. It's larger than it's Alfa Romeo counterpart both long and wide, and it's got a fresh styling that will intrigue Americans.

They took what worked great for the Neon, and modernized it...making it more of what people want.

I like it a lot and hope this new design bleeds into many of the other Dodge / Chrysler / Fiat designs.

Discuss.

Great for a family car. You know, wife and two or three kids. But when the nest is empty you don't need that much seating.

Bill I totally see what you are seeing. I don't drive eco boxes not would I unless I had to. However, a LOT of people DO drive them and a lot of money is spent on cars like that.

Inherently, they all are kind of stuck in the same mold, and how many times can someone realistically reinvent the sedan. Four doors and a trunk, four wheels, lights in front with a grill, and lights in back.

What I get from this, which is a very positive thing, is that Americans are buying American again. Ford with this Fusion, and Dodge with the Dart...are really stepping in the right direction to get us Americans interested in our own cars again.

For the first time in a LONG time, we are starting to outsell the makers such as Honda and Toyota. All of the American companies have had super positive sales and profit figures and as they continue to rise everything else follows.

That's why I really like he Fusion and the Dart. Not because I want one...or would drive one...but because I know the American people are interested in American cars again and that is worth a lot to me.

It used to be other countries would copy our styling.
Look at English and Jap sedans from the 60's. Korean cars from the 90's. Now it's the other way around, I think.
I guess it's more of a global thing now.

The altered wheelbase was real interestion, we had 3 different length driveshafts. The leaf springs had 3 different locators for the axle. With the shortest driveshaft, 1/3rd of the rear wheel was covered up (moved forward into the bodywork). Huge wheelwells. We couldn't run SS that way, had to run in the Altered class.

The Ramchargers started out with a lunchtime conversation with a few Mopar engineers who wanted to go racing. Since they were designing all the stuff, they had a big advantage. It grew to where there were a lot on engineers involved, the the factory became actively involved. Then they started to give outside support to guys like Landy and Sox & Martin.

Our Hemi was at 10 flat.

Our big ol, heavy 60 Pontiac set a national record in C-Stock at 12:05

Our Willys with a 288 Chev ran 10 flat

And we got excited about the new car line up each year.

Going out to see the new cars in the fall was a family event at our house.......never bought nothing but man did we look......:0

Finally in 64 the old man couldn't stand it and bought a new 64 Dodge Polara 500 to replace our 60 Pink Rambler.....I think I cried I was so happy.........LOL!

DB, I agree, not for me, but hey, if any US maker can generate large market increase in sales is OK in my book.

As for Dodge / Chrysler, give me a Charger SRT8 or 300C SRT8 and I'm good to go. Comfy 4 door with room for the kids, that will hit 60 in under 5 seconds and run a 1/4 under 13 seconds!!

Wife's car....

I dislike the use of an old car name for this. It is not what the original creators of the Dart were going after. My first car was a Nova. When I was telling this to someone they said "I had one it got great gas milage". Conversation ended.

I was at a swap meet today for old gas station and car items. One booth had a kids toy called Design Your Own Car.

I have never owned a foreign car, and am glad there still are American cars. This is a replacement for the Neon not the Dart.
