I go to the gym almost every day and one thing I do NOT do is jump rope. There are a few over in the stretching area hung up on a post. Occasionally I will see a guy go grab one but he's usually the scrawny long distance runner type who's maybe bored with the treadmill and elliptical machine.
Anyway, there are a few male trainers that occasionally get to train a cute young coed looking to make good on her New Years resolution. Yes, they always make the girls jump rope as a warm up. Yes, it is awesome, and for all us normal guys that's the best 2 minutes of our workouts and the only time where no one in the gym actually gets anything done. |

Jumping rope is a great warm up and cardio exercise. Just start out any work out routine slowly and listen to your body.

They make us jump rope as warm up in cardiofit class, but during my personal training sessions he makes me be on the stationary bike for 5 minutes then the glider for 5 minutes and I'll end up doing ropes and treadmill sprints (power off) before it's all over with. I hate jumping rope, I can't - I get tangled up in it. I usually just stand there and 'jump' but hold the rope or do jumping jacks.

Boxers live for jumping rope. Great cardio and excellent for foot speed.
Otherwise... protecting oneself from injury is very important. |
