Good Morning

Friday is one of the great days of the week although, to me, any day is a good day. Doing something today? Tomorrow?
I'm meeting up with an old friend later today that has not been to the house yet. He's coming by around 01:00. I have some grass to mow and a couple of small chores to do then I'll have the rest of the day for some chair time and plenty of

Country Songs I Hope to Write Someday
But Probably Never Will

The pink and green are making me blue

Last night I dreamed you came back (and I woke up screaming)

Lord, make me the man my dog thinks I am

I love you, I'm stupid

If two of us are the same, one of us is unnecessary

My momma always told me to do what I love
(so I joined the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms)

The problem with gettin' older,
is I can't remember which lie I told her

Your wife don't love me no more

I came to on you

A good excuse for bad behavior

The tattoo I regret

I do not interact with Facebook, Twitter or any of the other social networking platforms. My reasoning is simple. Why in the world would I want to share my private thoughts and feelings with the world at large? What good could possibly come from me having a convenient outlet to express myself to millions of people? The more likely outcome is that in a misguided attempt to be funny or cute, I'd say something stupid and wind up getting publicly raked over the proverbial coals. Which is why I think the wiser path is to keep my opinions to myself. For example, if I were to feel moral outrage over an organization riddled with pedophiles expressing their moral outrage over contraception, I certainly wouldn't tweet about it. And the photographs I've taken of myself wearing nothing but oven mitts and a tiara will never be shared on a Facebook page.

A young woman stepped forward from the throng and asked, "0' great prophet, tell us how we might find love that is unconditional, unwavering and unending." The prophet did not answer right away. He looked off into the distance, gathering his thoughts. Silence descended upon the crowd. Then he turned his gaze upon the young woman and said, "Get a dog."

Gonna be hot here today too, supposed to be 103. I was planning to go after work to take a small above ground pool down and haul to my house that was given to me - thinking I'll wait till early in the morning. We're finally due a chance of rain as I saw online, but when I check the same app on my phone it says otherwise. We really need rain here badly.
Having to sit at the office all day today, they decided to close yesterday and the day before which screwed up my work week. Had plans to run off for a few days but noooooo, someone has to mess it all up

Howdy! Slept in real good, but now I am pretty sure my wife gave me whatever delightful crud she's had all week, so I have that to look forward to. Another hot one here today, hopefully the last for a while.

Have a good day, all!

Ah yes! There is nothing like a case of crud in the unrelenting heat of summer. Keep a bucket nearby. Feed a cold and starve a fever or take your 102* fever out in 106* temperature. That ought to confuse that virus.

Morning guys......(yet). I've been out and working in the shop, trying to get the little project that I took on yesterday. Next week the cabinets come that I need to do for that other job.

Got to grab a bite and get back out there.

Good Afternoon CGs!

Sitting here at my folks' house, we are visiting for the weekend. Got in last night. Good to be home again for a few days. Wife and I took the kids to the beach this morning for a few hours along with my mother. Beach is only 5 minutes from the house and since the last time I was there they've really upgraded it with new buildings, kids area, etc. They do a lot of live concerts there in addition to other things. Really well done.

A little upset to learn my dad hasn't been driving the vette. It's been sitting for months with a battery drain issue. Dad has it on a tender but doesn't know how to fix it. I'll try to take a look later. Also, the new mufflers are still sitting in the box waiting to be installed. Maybe I can get to that, too.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

My dad has a 79. I remember he had a problem before with the interior dome light staying on. So I got him two new door switches. Tried to change them bot today with problems on each side. I got the p/s side switch on, new one won't rethread in - it wants to cross thread. Doesn't help not having the right tools here. Driver's side is a different style switch - not blade style, it is three pins. Well, the GM replacement switch doesn't fit. The female pin slots are too small. I tinkered with it for an hour trying to get it to work, no luck. Eventually cleaned the old one and put it back in, light is still staying on. We also had to leave for dinner so my time was cut short. I'll work on it tomorrow. There's also an old aftermarket alarm on it that might be pulling the battery down. I'll either cut it out or remove all the fuses and see if it still starts.

Had a few more minutes to tinker with the car since the kids are in bed. Was able to test the door switches and the courtesy delay timer that I thought might be the culprit. Luckily, the new switch on the passenger's side and the cleaned up old switch on the driver's side have solved the dome light problem. Delay timer works as intended. I will have to work on the alarm issue tomorrow. We'll be taking a trip to HF to pick up a few odds and ends.

My home A/C coils are freezing over. Looks like I'll need my coils cleaned and a refrigerant boost. Probably to the tune of about 5 bills. I'm sure it will be well worth it in the long run. I don't want to put out 3 Gs for a new compressor and air handler right now. Have to keep the old stuff working for awhile longer.

The hurricane shutters passed inspection today. I'm good to go. Our bill is paid in full. Now I just hope I'll never need them but that would just be wishful thinking. It's been 7 years since the last big blow.

This year is the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Andrew and the 100th anniversary of the City of Homestead. I've been here over 33 years but to the oldtimers I'm still a newcomer. When I die I'll still be a newcomer. It's like the people of Key West. If you weren't born there you can never be a Conch.

Here are the facts Matt. You are never done. You will never, ever be done. You may be through but you'll never be done. As long as you own one material thing you are committed to a life of serving your needs. The only alternative is to become like Mother Teresa. Swear off all worldly goods and live a life of servitude to others. Are you ready to do that? If you do then you'll be done.

So what's the problem with the Pinto? Didn't they come from the factory like that?

Well it looks like it finally made it to where it belongs. In a tow yard. I had a friend of mine that his old Impala fuel tank had sprung a leak. He had a 10 gallon tank in his trunk and drove it like that for a couple of years. Some people don't have any money to fix stuff but in Havana, Cuba they do a much better job of rigging.

I remember reading an article in a car magazine about 10 years ago or so - some journalists made a visit to Cuba and brought along some spark plugs, etc. to give to guys who are keeping those old cars alive down there.

They drive them because they have to. They have every kind of rigging available. The originality of the vehicle is not a factor. They make homemade parts. They'll use a pulley off a washing machine, mix brands (Ford parts on a Chrysler or Chevy). Whatever needs to be done to keep it running. They are truly an industrious lot. Their mission in life is to make something from nothing. Many homes are made from scrounged materials. The people are getting a bad deal down there. Oh well. It's their country.

So it's a window for the truck, new deck boards, fix the fridge, buy a new microwave. Gee Mister, AND you drive a corvette? You must be rich.

LOL.......I may not have a Vette if this keeps up....The repairman said it would cost $230 dollars to fix the microwave or 200 for a new one......I am a little suspicious of that....they also sell used cars......

Ya...how's that working out for you Cuba? I have often wondered how prosperous that country would be if Castro would have never been born....It would be full of resorts and golf courses and other places for winter weary Americans who would bring a lot of money with them...or choose to live there part of the year.....

Weird how that works, Marcus. Costs more to fix an appliance than buy a new one. When my son broke the coffee pot, it was cheaper to buy a whole entire new unit than a new glass pot. Go figure.

shipping charges are about the same as repair bills... I have a pool part I need that costs $1.42. Shipping was over $8.....
I have an issue with my washer now also, I'm not about to ask to get that fixed, I'll deal with it.

Yea, last month I had to buy a couple little electrical connectors for a drill. Two little connectors smaller than a dime (in all dimensions) 88 cents each (which I thought was about 78 cents more than they were worth) cost $10 to ship. Came in an padded 9 x 11 envelope. Could have been mailed in a regular envelope without any problem.

It was still cheaper than a new drill.

I'm going to have to launch a PR&C thread on this issue, this subject being a C. I'm sure we all have a few stories to tell.

A company I used to work for was a Zenith distributor. They'd buy a part for a nickel, sell it to the dealer for a quarter, who'd sell it to you for $2, and you'd think you got by pretty cheap.
