Qilam ixamnaa!

That is a morning greeting in Aleut, an Eskimo language. Seems fitting, as it is a balmy -24 with a wind chill around -50. I'm working from home today, which the boss suggested to everyone. Who am I to argue? Besides, nothing I had on my agenda is worth venturing out in this crap.

Bundle up, Gurus!

Morning guys...nowhere near that cold here, only 0 this morning. School has been delayed two hours because of the cold. Maybe the school will call and tell us to "work from home"....I doubt it too.

The Artic blast will enter South Florida this evening where it expected to drive the temperatures into the bone chilling 40's. Floridians are not accustomed to cold so when it reaches those temps, everything changes. The sidewalk bistros and the beaches will only be braved by the visiting tourists from the northern reaches. To them the 40's is like a summers day. You can tell them from the locals as they wander the areas in shorts and tank tops and the locals have dug out their meager stock of cold weather attire. Boots, pants, sweaters, coats and scarves will be a common sight on the streets tonight and they'll be giving out blankets to the urban outdoorsmen. So far our winter has been mild. I hope we don't get a freeze this year as a freeze can wreak financial devastation on people in the agricultural sector. Hunker down my friends of the cold white North and put another log on the fire. The year is already passing quickly and as each day passes you'll get closer and closer to Spring. With each harsh winter the numbers of people that move to Florida will grow. I'm not saying that's a good thing, but it's true. Warm wishes, hot chocolate and a nice cup of soup to you all.

Good morning gang.

Sorry about the late start here. I am home today boss called last night and told me not to show up. There was a travel warning for last night for most of northern Indiana today with only emergency vehicles allowed on the roads.

It's -10 now with a windchill chil of -35.

So lets get going so to speak.

Word of the Day Monday, January 06, 2014

2.either end of a railroad line.

3.British . the station or the town at the end of a railway or bus route.

Geez only -7 here and -26 wind chill.....school as normal here but several towns around us have called it off. I guess our kids are tougher....I do know that you would not want to run around outside naked....

I will work from home also today.....and I think I won't start my Deisel truck. In fact it would be a good day to crawl back in between the fuzzy sheets and catch some Z's.....

Nothing else going on here today other than survival so keep warm today Northern Guru's.....

Temps are cool.

But the excitement is heating up. more Reno drivers have signed up to hit the racetrack in Feb.

They're yanking on me to ride with them, it's going to be nutso. This was supposed to be a laid back day with just me ,Gary and the 65 Mustang.

Looks like I'll be riding in:

65 Mustang
2009 Roush Mustang (race prepped)
BMW M3
Lotus Elise
Grand Sport

This would be an excellent day to go through some of my neglected paperwork I've collected through the years . I know you can keep car parts stored for decades but how long should you keep paperwork. Does anybody have a good reference? Bank statements, paid bills, income tax returns, etc. I'm gonna put my shredder to task. I burned one out last time I tried this. I feel it might just happen again. I need to find a few important documents so in my search I figured I may as well thin out the mass to make future searches a little easier. Time to organize.

I see on the TV an add for one of those document scanners, organizers. I am not a big fan of digitalized documents, I prefer hard copy. I can see some benefit but I envision a hard drive crash with lots of stuff that can't be restored. I guess you can always keep that stuff backed up but I still prefer file folders. Old school ........

Well, guys, my thermometer is protected I guess, as the news said it was -9 and the bank said -7. If that's the case, our windchills are around -25 too. I came in the normal time, other than the supt and some maintenance staff, I'm the only one here. I did pull the pickup into an open bay in the auto-shop. Most schools are running a delayed schedule or have cancelled school for today. In our case, the high school is spread out over a 2 square block area with lots of space between buildings. Kids are outside quite a bit. Not like a completely self-contained school building.

Good Morning CGs!

-10 here with a -40 windchill. At least it's not snowing.

Today is RR#2's first day of daycare, so I have to drop him off there soon. I also need to run some errands. Yes, I am the insane one. Oh well.

Tommy, I keep records different lengths of time. Tax related or business documents for 7 years. I keep bills (gas, electric, etc) for one year. I keep warranty stuff as long as I own the item or until the warranty is expired. Other stuff I play by ear.

Hope everyone has a great and warm day!

Matthew

I keep stuff way too long. I have owners manuals for stuff I haven't owned in years. It's time some of that stuff was recycled into paper towels or something.

Got a friend here who told me yesterday he was going to be gone for a meeting we have Wednesday. "Oh, where are you going?" "My wife got me a trip for a Christmas present, dog sledding. We're flying out of Wichita to Duluth MN., then 2 hours northeast of there." He's going to freeze his butt off. Hehehe.

It actually warmed up here this afternoon, we are at 24 right now, but, like MArcus the wind came with it, so it still feels pretty cold.

Wheeeee, lifetime supply of blue nitrile gloves just arrived. I had run out of the ones I like, and got some at Home Depot that are crap. I was gonna order a box of 100, but the ones I like were $18-20 shipped just about everywhere. Found somebody on Amazon selling a case of 1000 for $28.41 shipped. I'm set for a lonnnnnng time.
