84bluec4 16" tire question..will it fit?

I have been pricing tires for a while, and as we are all aware, the 16 inch 255 50 has a limited amount of choices. I have heard of people running a 245 50 16 tire, but has anyone mounted 265 50 16's on their vette? Any Rubbing? Any Issues?

That depends.

Do you have 16x9.5s or 16x8.5s? Z51s came with 9.5s, except 84s that only had 9.5s in rear.

Check tirerack.com for recommended fitment.

9.5" is usually good up to 275s
8.5" is usually good up to 255s.

I've had 275s on a 8.5" and it was a stretch, that was a 17" wheel though. 16s won't be as bad. I'd say a 265 will work fine for you.

I am currently have the 8.5 and 9.5 wheels (z51 pkg) and I also have a additional set of 8.5's (just incase I wanted to rotate tires)

I just don't know how much room I have to play with by going 265 but staying in the 50 series profile.

I know on some other vehicles I have had it was no problem going one size bigger but those tires were not as wide.

Thanx

265 shouldn't be a problem on an 8 1/2" wheel. As far as rubbing, I wouldn't worry. I've got a friend who runs 335/30/17s on the front of an '85 race car. They only rub at full lock. Not a problem on the track.

Rubbing won't be a concern.

That is only 5 silly little millimeters on each side of the tire. If you want to see something strange, I have some 245/50/16 tires mounted on 9.5" wheels.

RACE ON!!!

Thanks everyone. I just couldn't figure out, if it was just the width, the height of the sidewall or both that changed.

NOTE: Different tire brands might be slightly different, but they all will be close.

No, actually, the overall diameters are VERY close to what the calculation puts em at. This is important since the tires need to replace oem stuff without screwing up speedo accuracy and traction control. The actual treadwidth can vary quite a bit though even for the same size.
