Good morning gang.

Mojo to those in New England for some snow relief.

Hope everyone had a good weekend and a good valentines day.

We went outvto see Styx in concert on Friday. we had a good time and then hunkered down for the cold snap over the weekend.

Today it's cold out. Currently it's 3* and should get to 12*.

Not much else going on so let's get today started.

Word of the day is polymathy.

Today is NATIONAL ALMOND DAY

February 16th is National Almond Day. Whether you are eating them by themselves, using almond milk, pasta, flour, butter, oil, or meal, almonds offer a delicious flavor along with many health benefits. Almonds are one of the most heart-healthy foods on the market, packed with vitamin E, magnesium and fiber.
◦According to a survey of 500 health professionals, almonds may be beneficial to a healthy lifestyle
◦According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, “Scientific evidence suggests, but does not prove that eating 1.5 ounces per day of most nuts, such as almonds, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease.”
◦Recent research from Purdue University suggests that eating almonds can help people feel satisfied for several hours, which can support weight management and counter weight gain.
◦ 80 percent of the world’s almonds are grown in California.

Green beans with almonds or asparagus with almonds might be two great options to celebrate with on National Almond Day.

You may want to try one of the following “tried and true” recipes:

NATIONAL ALMOND DAY HISTORY

Our research has found that National Almond Day, an “unofficial” national holiday, may have been originated by the Almond Board of California.

NATIONAL DO A GROUCH A FAVOR DAY

Everyone knows a grouch and actually you might even know more than one. It is in their nature for some people to be grouches all of the time while others may just be having a rough day or two. On February 16th, it is National Do a Grouch a Favor Day. On this day, you can do something to maybe make their day much better.

The grouch that you know might be a friend, relative, co-worker, boss, neighbor or someone that you live with. National Do a Grouch a Favor Day is an opportunity for you to do something nice for them, do them a favor, surprise them when they least expect it. Doing them a favor is going to feel good for you!!

As defined in Merriam-Webster dictionary: ” GROUCH – a habitually irritable or complaining person : grumbler”

Maybe February 16th would be a fun day to watch these movies:
Grumpy Old Men – and – Grumpier Old Men

Let’s make it a better day for someone that we know (or someone that we do not know)!

NATIONAL DO A GROUCH A FAVOR DAY HISTORY

Our research has failed to find the origin and the creator of this “unofficial” national holiday.

PRESIDENTS DAY

Presidents Day is a federal holiday which, in the United States, is celebrated on the third Monday of February.

This day is set aside, by more and more of America’s population, to honor all of the past United States presidents that have served our country. Two of our nation’s great presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, are brought to mind as we celebrate this day. Their birth-dates, which fall close to this same time, have been celebrated for decades and always will be.

Presidents Day is celebrated with public ceremonies in Washington D.C. and throughout the United States.

Happy Presidents Day!

PRESIDENTS DAY HISTORY

The origin of Presidents Day lies in the 1880′s, when the birthday of George Washington was celebrated as a federal holiday. In 1968, Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Bill, which moved a number of federal holidays to Mondays. During the debate on the bill, it was proposed that George Washington’s birthday be renamed Presidents Day to honor the birthdays of both George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Washington’s birthday is February 22nd and Lincoln’s birthday is February 12th. Although Abraham Lincoln’s birthday was celebrated in many states, it was never an official federal holiday. Following much discussion, Congress rejected the name change, however, after the bill went into effect in 1971 Presidents Day became the commonly accepted name.

And remember, Benjamin Franklin is the first President of the United States who was never President of the United States ........

Off to the dentist this morning. Tomorrow we have two couples coming in for a sleep over visit. I'm sure we'll have a great time. We'll let the fly, eat, drink and maybe have a game night. Out for breakfast Wednesday morning, then off they go.

Sue got hurt yesterday in the Grove. She fell off a f@(%!~g skateboard. My response. :wtf: are you doing on a skateboard? She got the wind knocked out of her, banged up her elbow and was hurting last night. Oh well ..........

Good Morning CGs!

Cold as heck here as well. My house really shows how inefficient the windows are when it's this cold out. Furnace works hard to get up to temp, then the heat slowly bleeds off. You watch it on the thermostat. I'm ready for spring.

Been kicking my own butt in the gym this past week and I feel it. A good sore, but man am I sore.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Sorry to hear that. Hope she heals up quick. I leave the kid toys for the kids. My kids will ask me to ride a scooter or skateboard and my simple response is "no".

Best wishes to your wife, Tommy. I would like to see the video also.

It is 33º here today, but we are getting more snow. We've got about 2" so far this morning. Great big fluffy flakes.

Being an avid reader of the Darwin Awards I have learned it is better to be safe than sorry. A few shots of whiskey and all bets are off though.

Brother isn't doing too well. They are putting a tracheae-tube in and a feeding tube, as he can't eat. Lots of things going against him right now.

Well the nice thing about all this SNOW is that I get to work from home.

Which is a great thing because the MBTA may not be up to speed for a MONTH!
