Good Morning CGs!

Back to work for anyone who had off yesterday?

Yesterday I was able to get the socket I needed from a friend who has a giant toolbox full of leftover crap (ie, not one set in the bunch, but everything imaginable). It is semi organized and I was able to find a USA Craftsman deep 12 pt in under 30 seconds. Not bad. So I stole that (with permission, of course).

After helping the kids carve pumpkins, I had a few minutes to work in the garage. Had already gotten out 5 pistons with no signs of damage to the block (especially the suspected bad ones). Pulled the #3 driver's side piston and found this:

 photo IMG_20151012_193124963_HDR.jpg

Broken ring land about 3-4 inches across. Most was still in the groove, but broken. Didn't find some of it. Luckily it didn't damage the cylinder wall or combustion chamber. I don't know what caused it. I'm glad that I was vindicated knowing something was wrong and that I didn't do all the work for nothing...but still not happy. Time for a rebuild.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Alli chishi!

Hopefully today will be more pleasant than yesterday, which was Suckville - cold, spitting rain, huge wind gusts. Won't take much to be an improvement. Reminds me, I'll want to get the snowblower ready for action before too long.

Good find, Matt! I am shocked that you had to borrow a tool ;-)

Have a great day, yawlz!

Morning guys...Supposed to be in the 80's today. I'll have a full day with the cabinet job at #2's house.

Nice find, Matt. At least you know and can get it fixed. Brad, not looking forward to those days of snow.

Have a great day guys, each one is a gift!

TOMMY, I USED SOME OF THAT TOP CLEANER YOU RECOMMENDED ON THE TOMATO AND DISCOVERED THE TOP IS NOTICEABLY LIGHTER IN COLOR THAN I THOUGHT IT WAS:-)

Sunny and cool but up to 80 they say......to put the epic fail of the Huskers in perspective, the last time we were 2 and 4 was when Eisenhower was president......and I believe we play the Gophers this weekend......how exciting.....

Matt it broke......glad you found it and can get it fixed......and I also was stunned that you had to borrow a tool.......

The Royals game yesterday was epic.....I had the TV on in the house and the radio on in the shop......but had given up on them by the 7th and then the 8th happened and I went in and watched the end of the game......big doings......back to KC now for game 5........

Have a safe day Guru's and be thankful........

Lots done this morning. Installed light fixture box above sink, we removed the soffet above the cabinets so had to rework the electrical, put the last coat of mud on above the cabinets, where the soffet was and will now be open, got all the upper cabinets laid out and 5 of them hung. Made great progress, by myself. This afternoon I'll need help moving some of the bigger cabinets in, so I'll have to enlist my GS #1, who is working for a friend of mine construction work.

Later guys.....tonight I'll do pictures.

Matt
Sorry to see that. Glad it didn't hurt anything too bad.

Usually it's detonation that causes a broken land but you can do it hydro locking and engine or from butting a ring (not enough end gap).... Take the top and second groove rings off and look at the ends to see if they are shiny from butting together as they expand.

Nice cars keep showing up in my driveway.
Yesterday it was a Ford (with Corvette brakes).
Today it was a Chevy.

Yea, drop dead gorgeous.

Funny that it's not a top flight car cause the owner is a NCRS Master Judge for 1963's.

I haven't driven the GT40 yet but have driven the Pantera GT5.

Here's the original kitchen in all of her 1960 glory.

Resized Image

I've got it all torn out and ready to install.

Resized Image

The big patch was because I had to move the existing electrical line from one location to another for the range hood.

Resized Image

Here I've got the new/old upper cabinets installed and doors back on.

Some of the base cabinets installed.

More of the base cabinets. The opening on the right of the lazy-susan is for a dishwasher, which she never had.

Resized Image

More base and the range hood installed.

One more base cabinet to install, then the counter tops can go in then the big 36" x 84" tall pantry will be installed.

The original cabinets had a boxed soffet. We did away with that and now it will be an open soffet. There is a big "dead space" in the corner, but with the space and cabinets we had available, it just had to be that way. Even with the "dead space", she will have way more cabinets than she had before.
