Yeah, the title says it all. Got my new 50" Samsung DLP LED TV yesterday afternoon. All I have to say is sah-weet. This thing is awesome. I went from my 25" regular old plain jane to this thing. Tuned it a little yesterday with one of my THX dvds and it's amazing. I just have regular cable hooked up now, but after seeing the difference in the quality of the "HD" channels vs the regular cable channels I think I might need to get dish network or something. Anyone have that? The tv is capable of 1080p (of course, not available with cable) and regular cable is like 480i, I think? Suggestions?

Matthew

Quick picture - not best quality, but here it is:

Awesome!

We have HD through our cable. Just changing to the new TV was amazing, HD was incredible. Except sometimes the detail and clarity is a bit too much - I don't always need to see the pores individually sweating on some old sportscasters face.

Cool. You could cover that opening above the TV with a retractable theater type curtain. That might give you less outdoor light intrusion while your watching.

I've got a 50" Panny plasma. I love it. Currently I am getting my HD channels through Charter Cable. There is a noticeable difference for sure. Some channels come through in 480i and some 1080i. You won't see channels come through in 1080p due to the lack of bandwidth. They are squeezing the channels for all their worth now.

Look closely if you decide to go with Direct TV. There are a lot of channels you will never view.

Enjoy the tv!!

I brought that up to the wife....she nixxed that idea...lol. But thanks for the ideas, guys. I already have the dish network dishes mounted on the house with the cables running into the basement from the previous owner, so I'd just have to get the boxes. And the in-laws have it, so I might just try one of their boxes to see if I like it. Then I'll make my choice.

Cool beans. What sold you on the LCD vs. plasma?

I never liked the plasma picture quality.

Actually it's neither. It's a DLP - rear projection. It's not totally flat like the plasma or LCD. I don't need to hang it on the wall, so that's a big deal right there. Huge cost savings, to me. I don't care for plasmas due to the possibility of screen burn in and the fact that my living room is very bright during the day (supposedly not good for viewing plasmas). I don't know much about LCDs, so I can't say. What I know is that my tv was much cheaper for a bigger screen vs a plasma or LCD, and it's rated at 1080p, the highest resolution possible. The quality of the tv is awesome. So all of those factors went into my decision.
