Interesting story!
http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=4826897 This is an issue routinely ignored by car owners. I saw a low mileage 93 Vette for sale here in Las Vegas last week. The owner was still driving around on the original tires. Check the dates on your tires. Old tires can fail at anytime no matter how good the tread looks. |

My tires on the 90 are about 4 years old. I guess there is no good reason not to smoke them and start charging the corners. I remember the Goodyears I replaced were hard as rock. Very sad about the innocent deaths.

They are alot like running shoes. Look great on the outside but dead for running after 500 miles.
My tires don't get a chance to get old. (50 miles a day, 7 days a week)(or my running shoes) |

I never get more than 2 years out of a set of tires, but I would consider them junk after 5-6 years.
Especially on a motorcycle! At least cars don't fall over when they slide. If you don't drive the car much, drive it hard, or you're wasting your tires. |

Why would the tire/rubber manufacturers be against this?
More unused/expired tires means more sales for them! They sure made a jackass out of Dan Zalinski on camera, lol. The tire sellers know these are old, which is why they tend to sell them on clearance. Good story. |

 I heard alot about this. Tire stores selling old tires as new. Tires exploding on highway. Sad. It seems it would not be as common on vettes because our tires are so unique and not resemble all the one for SUVs and the Sedans. |

I checked at lunch, the mini has tires from 2006 in the rear and the fronts I will have to see tonight cause its not visable from the curb...not a good sign. Plus they look like they are starting to dry rot!!

The date code is only one one side of the tire. So sometimes you have to crawl under the car with a flashlight to see.
