I know it sounds bad, but I am confident I can get more for it parted out rather than trying to sell it whole. It needs paint and interior, so I doubt anyone would give me over $3000 for it. I have probably $1400 tied up in the wheels and tires alone.

I need to get rid of one of the vettes due to my business growing rapidly and needing the space. hmmmmm....what to do?

Well, if you've got the time and inclination, I'd part it out. You'll be helping other C4s out there keep going...

you need to market it right. If you part it out, I would ebay it or what not as a parts supply for a kit car or chassis conversion.

If you part it out, I'm interested in the climate control if it's C68/electronic.

Good luck with whatever you decide. But you can always find someone to buy a $4500 running vette. IMHO.

Id part it on Ebay. All you get on forums is people asking for a zillion pictures of some part and try to chisel you to death if they even send payment. .

you might want to check with some of the parts vendors... if it's that bad off, you might get someone like Taber or Vette2vette.com take it off your hands.

Taber is much closer, tho.

my only concern is that you will end up with a shell and no value and no way of getting rid of the remains.

I would actually take the entire car and put it up on ebay as a project, list what has been done, put a low reserve on it and let it rip.

What wheels do you have on it?

Hello Brut,

Give me a run down of whats wrong with the car? Engine, Trans, body, interior, mileage, etc. I would be able to give you my honest opinion. If you are going to part it out, you must look at all the parts that are in good shape, see how much they are selling on ebay, and add it up. Dont forget your labor and time. I just got done disassembling Painting and reassembling a C4 and its alot of work. Good Luck.

I think I would be lucky to get $3500 as it sits now.

The only thing that is mechanically wrong is the Master Cylinder. However, I it would need painted and some minor body work. The original seats are gone, and there is no carpet. No radio.

Tranny was rebuilt a few years back and has probably 2000 miles on it. The motor has 90K on it.

I can part it out fairly easily as I have room to do it for now. I would be just worried about shipping the large stuff like rear end and motor/tranny.

I haven't decided what I want to do yet. This was my late grandfather's car and I don't really want to get rid of it. It runs great and looks cool even in the state its in. I just don't want to put money into a paint job just to sell it.

If I did part it out, I would advertise here and CF first just for the simple fact that I know a lot of people on the two sites that I would want to give first dibs at.

Once you're rid of the easily salable parts, you'll still be left with a lot. From that point on, it'll worry you to death trying to get rid of all of the bullshit stuff. Taking pictures, packing, shipping and just the time involved, you'll hate it after awhile. Engine, trans, hood, doors, etc. will all have to be truck freighted. Even if the buyer's willing to pay for that, it's still a big PITA for you, compared to putting something in a box and dropping it off at UPS or the post office. Do the little work needed to make it a driver and you'll do okay and you'll help someone get into the hobby at a reasonable price. Driver projects are much easier to unload than a car with "issues" or parts missing.

hm... I love the wheels.

It's a project... but it's complete and running.

I would almost fix the brakes and sell it as a running car that needs finished. Hell, put a coat of primer on it and it looks closer to completion.

Is it a manual or auto car? If it's an auto, then the D36 just isn't worth that much... a rebuilt 700R4? Again...

In short, if you can get $3500 out of it as a complete car, I think you are doing better than parting it.

Actually, if you think you can get a good price for the wheels and tires, sell them separately and replace them with stockers, which are nearly giveaways. A valuable wheel generally won't add it's entire value to the car they're attached to.

Really?

I've been trying to sell my 87 for a while now. Seems most people want a pristine piece at a driver's price????

Have it a $4500.00 OBO and it runs like a bat outta hell and doesn't look bad either.

Has been extremely dependable too.

yet, No buyers

sell it as a complete car. Beleive me, you won't get jack for the parts. D36's are like opinions, everyone has one... and some have 3 or 4. They are not a commodity like D44.

Hi Brut,

Sounds like the car just needs cosmetics. Been there done that. I paid 3500 for my 86. It has a brand new engine, but it needed paint, interior, winshield, transmission but I lucked out on the tranny. Tires, digital dash lcds, everything. It would be a pain to part it out. I would put it on ebay, and advertise it as a corvette under construction. You were in the process of restoring it but you have too many projects going on and you need to let someone else finish it. I like my black 86, and I am glad I restored it. Good Luck with your decision.

Hi Gordon,

That is a good price for your vette. Its a nice car too. If I didnt have so much going on, I would be interested in it. But, Kellie will kill me if I bought another vette. lol. Can you email me some pics and info about it. I will put the word out in my Corvette Club. Take care.

Agreed! Your car of course. Do what you want... I'd give it a chance... Put on the stock wheels and let someone else finish it.
