Just to let everyone know I'm still working on my boat

Consulting jobs have kept me away from home, but more there's been alot of progress this last week!

All three of the 18.5ft by 3 ft beams are coming together.

This is the first I've known of this project. That's quite an undertaking, impressive!

How do you keep them from warping? Are you putting caps on the edges or something? Hard to tell from the pics. The diagram makes them look like you're either boxing two of them together, and doing something wierd with the ends.... or possibly building out the width of each.

Very nice! I grew up near the water and had a boat before a car. I just moved back to the water again, and feel the urge to get another boat. Heck I now only live two blocks from the Chesapeake Bay, and marinas all around us.

I have always wanted to give boat building a try, but as Notorious suggests it can be quite a challenge. If I do get another boat one day, I think it will indeed be a "blow boat" versus a power boat.

I can't wait to see your progress.

Having grown up near the water my entire life, I love boats.
As kids, we use to build them all the time. None of them ever floated. Hope you have better luck.

Nice work!

You should paint it to match the FEA model. That way, if you get caught in a storm, you'll know exactly where its going to break.

That is very impressive. I was wondering though, are you going to put it together by a dock or transport it onces its fully assembled?

Although if you find yourself in the wrong part of the lake, you might get the fruity type trying to board your ship.

They're triangular in shape, but since they're I-beams I need to put a cap on the edge, not just for strength, but to give me something to glue to.

It's a take-a-part so the crossbeams will be bolted to the hulls after I take it off the trailer.

I was going to build a folding boat, or a slider, but the weight of the mechanism really added up.

That's one of the ideas, the other is I can get it in secluded lakes.

Here's the latest plan, next to what I orginally planned. A slider with batwing sails.

EDIT
Someone on the CLC forum just finished a kayak using CLC's SailRig, you can see how it all comes apart.

http://www.clcboats.com/forum/clcforum/thread/1835.html

Mine's like that one on steroids

Here's a video of a Windrider Rave

They're triangular shaped. Sort of an I-beam, but since one cap is short, I needed to put some carbon fiber on it.

Nah, I left the cap ends proud.
That way I can stake it into the ground.
Useful when hand planning

Unfortunately it's getting cold at night.
Too cold for the epoxy to cure.
So unless it warms back up, I may have to put the project to bed until spring
