440chp on a stock bottom end is pretty

Not a bad showing for the iron head vortecs either.

I've heard the stock iron head LT1's outflow their AL counterparts.

Ahhh... thats better.

I like em all.... my favorite is the $ 2000 385 HP motor.... maybe swap the intake or something and find yourself another 15hp for a 400 HP motor for $ 2200 or so..... not a bad deal for a street cruiser of some sort.

I am doing a iron Vortec build for my '76. I was thinking of going to a 383....but that 355 sounds enticing with 400+ HP.

HEADS
There were two heads used on the 350, one aluminum and one cast iron, along with one cast iron head for the 265. GM claimed that the original LT1 aluminum head had a 15% increase in airflow as a result of revised port angles and higher port ceilings when compared to the 1991 L98 head. That was impressive in 1992, but the iron LT1 head that came out in 1994 was even better. It flowed 20% more on the intake side and made more horsepower on the dyno.

From here:
http://www.9c1.com/technical/LT1_rebuild/ar99928.htm

If accurate, that means head flow was nearer to LT4.
