Ok, I just found that I need to replace the heater core of my 96 LT4, you know, foggy windows with coolant smell and a wet carpet... So for I haven't found the instructions on how to replace it... Could someone at least tell me how please?? Thanks in advance

Hopefully bogus will chime in - he recently did it in his '92. Yours will likely be somewhat different because of the passenger side air bag.

I have this link saved, but I'm not sure how much is specific to the earlier dash style:

I've got the 96 FSM. If you'd like, I could scan the pertinent pages sometime this weekend and either post or email them to you. Let me know...

Step 1: Take care apart.
Step 2: Spend 48 hours cussing car.
Step 3: Reassemble car.
Step 4: See Step 2.

It's a pain in the ass.

I just finished doing mine. Hands have not healed up yet. Its an 87. Simular procedure as Bogus.
1. Remove dash
2. Install heater core
3. Replace dash
4. Get on guru and say "I did it"

It is a PITA! But don't let that scare you. Dive in.

You don't have to sugar-coat it there...

OP - make sure to lube the core outlets when you put the hoses on the new core. They do NOT like goin' in dry, and you can break the aluminum joints...

I just recalled that a friend on the other forum (Jet-Jock) did an unbelievable illustrated write-up on this a while back prior to moving up to a C5. I contacted him this morning and he emailed it to me. This is for a 93 and while their are differences between it and the 96 (an air bag comes to mind), it should be a great help to you. PM me your email address and I'll pass it on. It's a large PDF file (6 megs) probably because of all the pics included. It's really an incredible tech article and if there's anyone else whose contemplating this repair, let me know, and I'll send it out...

You really should. I'm going to try to use it as a model for documenting the Big Weenies rear end narrowing mod I'll be doing on the LT4 in the next couple of months with Jim Garren (ToptechX6)...

I replaced the core in my '93 back in December. I've got the PDF, and I'll be glad to send it to you. I tried to attach it here, but it didn't work. Just pm your email and I'll send it to ya!
It's not that bad, as long as you take your time and label everything!!

Is that the PDF that Jet-Jock put together? If so, that would be more help than the 96 FSM scans I mentioned. If it is, I've already emailed it to him...

Is that really a good idea? I've even seen packets labeled for that specific use at the parts store, but a dry joint is the best way to ensure it doesn't leak.

I thought mine were copper, but I could be remembering wrong. It's an 85 though.

There's nothing wrong with using a little lube on a hose when needed. I've done it many, many times without leaks or any other problems. But don't use oil based products as they deteriorate rubber. I often apply a little bit of Gojo as it's usually nearby, the white creamy type, not the gritty type. O-ring lube will work too, if you have some of it around.

It's the one I got from Mr Mojo. I'm really not sure who put it together though, but it's a great set of instructions!
