The ethanol lobby has asked the EPA to raise the ethanol blend in gas to 15%. There is so much misinformation, misconception, propagada, and general ignorance on this subject. Do you think the Senate subcommitee that is "studying" this will come up with a raional conclusion?.

They will be forced to. Ethanol is not a bad idea, but the cost - currently - is not effective.
Now, if we could get to a point where it was, that's another story. And celluistic (sp?) ethanol might be a better answer. Uses grasses that will grow anywhere and are much easier to harvest. Also has higher sugar to work with. I am not a chemist, but it works with some natural enzymes to make more sugars out of less product. I am concerned that at 15%, it would start effecting older vehicle fuel systems. The original reason for the 10% was for emissions. Ethanol is an oxygenate. It replaced MBTE, which is some gnarly shit. It was able to leach out of tanks and contaminate ground water, leading to birth defects and cancers. Not good. I suspect that additional ethonal would result in such decreased MPG that any positive it provided would be lost. |

Let's grow pot and burn that...in our cars that is. Oh, in liquid form in the gas tank.

I don't understand why there hasn't been more research into using LP or CNG in cars and trucks. Propane has been used for a long time. CNG would be something you could fill your tank from home at, and from what I understand it's cheaper by volume than gasoline and you gain MPG and hold power rates.

Heck, nobody would make it to work, because everyone would mellow out and chill. Of course, the also stuck snack truck would suffer a large hit. |

I wish there was more than one E85 pump in MA.
Forced induction LOVES the stuff. I'm really surprised there's not more E85 pump in CA. |

Good for the economy. Looks like a win-win situation all the way around. They would have to make the lanes wider though and change the max speed signs to min speed. |
