Well the vette failed emissions today. Hi HC's and CO. Running rich. No codes. I have and appointment to have it looked at tomorrow. I hope it is something simple. I'm not going to just throw parts at it. :ace: OK done ranting.

Running rich

Could just be a temp sensor, or bad plugs

How it's something simple

Hope it's an easy fix. When's the last time you changed your O2 sensor? You said it's running rich.

I have never changed it. That was what I was thinking also. But that doesn't mean that it hasn't been change before we've only have had the car for just over 2yrs. I wouldn't be surprised if that is it.

From the sites I've read, you should change a single wire 02 sensor from our vintage every 30,000 miles. I did mine last week.

Did you get it really hot before you took it in ? They were having trouble logging onto the emissions website and my car sat (not running). When they got finally online it failed. I was bummed, read on a forum to get it hot and when I went back to another station, they too were having trouble logging on, but he let the car run the whole time and it passed. He told me that was the trick to get it to pass. Just a thought.

Yes it got hot. I waited in line 15 - 20 min. I was doing some research in FSM and I thinking over what my shop said. I could have a bad fuel pres regulator, the O2 sensor. Also could be the charcoal canister. Timing, injectors (those better not be bad I just put those in last yr from John).

It is going into closed loop mode so that would eliminate the temp sensor I hope.
Just alot of stuff to digest.

Mike.

Turned out to be a lazy O2 sensor. The damn thing wouldn't react fast enough. It wasn't bad in such a way that it would set a code. All is good now.

Mine failed this morning too. It's always run pig-rich, but a little sea-foam has always gotten it through before. I'm getting pretty sick of this piece of plastic.

See - simple stuff! Glad it was the 02. I replaced mine and it's still running rich. Gotta figure out why. I plan on seafoaming it over the summer - but in a deserted parking lot

Running rich usually doesn't get you high HC. I'd be looking at the ignition system for that issue.

Look on the bright side, an excuse to get your car tuned up and running right.
