I have a 1996 Collector Edition with the LT4 and the tires I have on the rear are 315/35/17, I want to go to a 335/35/17. Does anybody know if the 335/35/17 will fit or does anything need to modified? Thanks for your help.

Some guys have experienced rubbing issues with the wider 335s, especially if your car is lowered. It depends partly on the brand, because some run wider than others even though the "number" is the same. I think 315s are wide, already! Also, the 335s might bulge out a little bit on an 11" rim.

Brian on here runs 335s on all 4 corners for autocross, I believe, but he has aftermarket rims. I'm not sure the offset, but he should chime in.

Good luck,

Matthew

If your staying with the 11 inch rim, the 335's really don't make much sense to me. You "might" see some buldge.

Those are already "non-stock" compared to the CE. If you had a GS, they would be stock, and those came with the cute little fender flares... what good they did.

I am afraid that you would have a rather dorky looking bulge... Also, selection... The tire will have a bit more height, too. Lemme see... If I did the math right, the 335 would be 1/2" taller. That could skew speedo readings and piss off the ABS/ASR computer a little...

Finally... selection... I just checked tirerack.com (shameless guru sponsor plug!) and they only have three tires in that size...

Kumho Ecsta XS $204.00 each
Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 $443.00 each
Pirelli PZero System $499.00 each

If you stick with the 315s, they are a lot cheaper.

The Kumhos are $201.00
Goodyear F1 $323.00
Sumitomo $115.00

Short of a potential appearance improvement, which I doubt, the 335s are simply pointless. I don't see a performance improvement worth the cost.

Thanks everybody for the info. I think I will just stick with the 315/35/17. Brian.

I run 335's, but my rims are 12in wide.

They do stick out a little.

What rims are on the car GrandSports?

CE's didn't come with 11in rims.

On a related subject...

Anybody know if a 28" tire will fit in back?

I put the black 17 x 9.5 on the front and 17 x 11 on the rear. I didnt like factory wheels that were on the car.

I went with the black wheels that the Grand Sport has because of the car having the LT4 in it I had the car repainted silver and added black Grand Sport stripes.

Mick's car looks pretty good with 28" M&H 325/45R17s, so it would appear that 28" tires will work/fit.

How about a 29" tire? I've been considering some 275/55R17s lately, but will likely go to a 27" tall 255/50R17 instead, next time I need tires.

For a 17x11 wheel there aren't too many choices. Check out the M/T 295/45R17 ET Street Radial II if you're looking for a Drag Radial, or the aforementioned M&H.

It would be nice if there were a few street tires in these approximate sizes. 17x11 wheels have limited choices for tires.

All the way around?

Be interesting to see what that looked like.

May look like a 4x4, but it would make driving over potholes a lot easier
LOL

I would intend to run the same size tire all around.

I measured a 255/60R17 General Grabber UHP mounted on a Toureg. From the specs, this is also supposed to be 29" tire like the 275/55R17. Actual height was about 28 1/4" tall, so I suspect that the 275/55R17 is closer to 28" than 29" FWIW.

I would also consider a 255/50R17 front and 275/55R17 rear combination.

With my 3.73 gears, the 255/50R17 will behave like a 3.55 gear, the 275/55R17 or 255/60R17 would behave like a 3.37 gear, compared with my present 255/45R17 tires.

I wouldn't mind the shorter effective gearing. Its good to see that there are some "different" options available.

They fit and the well can take at least a 29", if removing the plastic "tubs' a 30" looks possible.
