OK at the request of a C4guru I'll post pics and attempt a write up. I hate doing the write ups on simple projects like this but here goes....

First off I am not following the FSM I've taken my rear suspension apart a couple of times and the FSM has some unnecessary steps

I did this my way and can not take responsibility on if you follow how I did it and it doesn't work for you

If you want to do it quicker and you a installing DRM brackets and banskis I suggest you check out how I did the passenger side it was much easier and quicker to do than the driver side if you are just installing DRM brackets the first way (driver side) probably will be easier for you.\

Get all the pieces together

Install protective covering

Sealsits on all of the ballends

Walk out to the car

Lift car with jack remove tire. I supported car on jacket stands under the spring bolts IOT unload the suspension

Gather up some tools (You will have to use surrender monkey sizes since suspension does not use standard size fasteners(15mm, 18mm, and 24mm only sizes used on this page)
and I removed the forward bolts holding the trailing arms

Using a 15mm socket and 18mm combination wrench remove front bolts

Using a 24mm socket and 24mm box wrench remove rear trailing arm bolts from suspension knuckle (I used an adjustable wrench to hold the nut.)

Use 18mm socket and remove three bolts securing the trailing arm bracket to frame

You are done with disasembly

It took about 35 minutes to gather tools set car on jackstands, remove two trailing arms, trailing arm bracket

Uploading pics to photobucket and trying to get multiple pics posted here is taking much more time.

Getting ready to size the trailing arms

little bit of never seize on threads

I sized the arms by placing factory bolt on old dog bone and then adjusting new trailing arm until it fit the bolts the same as old dog bones.

I snugged the clamps while on the dog bones and set them aside

Old bracket and the new one

Install new bracket.

Torque to 70 lb ft

Short to the top long to the bottom

Small hole forward larger hole aft

fix spacers

and install into bracket.

It took a while but it finally fit.
I torqued the foward bolts to 70 lb ft(used red loctite)

I torqued the rear to 90 lb ft

It took a while to line them up too.

DONE

However, I found an easier way and second side went QUICK as in 15 minutes top quick....

While computer is uploading to the bucket I'm going to finish the other side. I found a way to save time on other side. I'm done with driver side and have everthing off of passenger side but photobucket is taking its sweet time to upload. I beleive I've spent more time on camera and computer than wrenching. These two mods are so straight forward and simple its mindnumbing trying to describe it.

Banski changed the bolts from 18 to 19 millimeter...

However, it was as simple as I thought it would be. I alway support the spring which leaves the suspension unloaded but not hanging below ride hieght
\

I want to thank Steve for the deal on the banskis and the folks at DRM for taking a chance and running another batch of C4 product (I hope they sell enough to make it worth their while and that they don't get stuck with a warehouse full of C4 stuff.)

I want to know how it drives so I can drink hard liquor for my loss ;)
I tell you those parts were sweet, and my fabricator at work was shaking his head how they were sold to me originally for such a good deal. Even my machinist said the machining etc was very good.
Also, does the suspension move up and down easier?

Only been on a short drive maybe 20 miles but I didn't hammer on it too hard since I havent aligned it yet.

I can still smoke the tires at will below 65 miles an hour

May be the camber bracket install, and alignment will help with the traction

Im still thinking about most efficient way to install camber brace. I'm hoping I can do it without dropping exhaust.\

The Trailing Arms are works of art. On a different Forum some cat commented that they look straight forward and he's thinking of making his own. I beleive that if you used quality parts and did an excellent job on the machine and finish work you would be hard pressed to do it for what Banski is charging.

You were right the Seals are a little rough to install.

Mike

Sure, you can make your own. And they would be less expensive IF you figure your time's worth about $1 per hour.
AND you won't end up with a final product of this quality unless you have your own personnal machine shop.

make sure you call seals-it, Jim SMith, with sizes as there kits would have you. they did break a package up as you would end up with extras and cost more.

Thanks guys. I'm going to want them for all the Banski stuff; Tie Rods, Camber Rods and the Trailing Arms. Assuming all use the RERS 3, I'd need 16 and they come in packs of 6. 3 Packs would only leave me two extras so I can live with that. I'll try to order from Seals-It directly and see if they can ship USPS to me APO Box.

Thanks again.

Are you guys filling these with grease? I guess I don't really see the need to close up the spherical joints if they're just dry with teflon lining.

cr@p went to install mine and realized I still have the old non-conical spacers.

They don't slip in the trailing brackets with the old ones and the camber brackets are too loose.

I just got off the phone with Tom

He's going to get a set of tapered spacers out to me that will fit my older kit.

He also has an older toe kit that matches the rod end size that I own, so I'm going to get that as well.

I hate waiting on parts! However, waiting on parts does not suck as much as waiting on money IOT order parts....to end up waiting on parts.

I still have not found out if this round of mods has helped with my traction issues and tomorrow won't be the day either....

I still don't know if my traction has improved.
I got up at 0500 this morning IOT hit my test and tune course but it was RAINING. Maybe it will be dry tomorrow.

I went over the kit again with the new spacers.

They're going to work out, all I needed was some thick washers no machining.
The SAE 5/8ths fastners in METRIC holes is just too sloppy for me.

I could go out an buy metric rodends to replace the ones I have, at $80...each (which explains why Tom choose what he did)

But the holes in the uprights are probably so beat, I think I'm better off keeping what I have and putting inserts into my uprights. That means the install is going to have to wait until the car is in my friends shop and I can get it all torn down.

I've also replaced all the bolts, I really don't want threads in shear.

The Penske coilovers are going to be TIGHT in there. I may have to relocate the ABS module connections, and the front swaybar.

I'm curious why you say this. In most applications threads are in shear. They're no weaker than a shoulder, why are you looking to avoid it?

When the bolt passes through a thin flange like that, you want to sitting on the shoulder of the bolt. Otherwise it's sitting on the tips of the threads, not only is this weaker, but the threads can cut into the flange.

The SAE 5/8ths fastners in METRIC holes is just too sloppy for me.

As I mentioned in my email, if there is that much slop between the 5/8 in bolt and the 16 mm hole then those holes in the knuckle have obviously been elongated somehow. 16 mm converts to 0.6299 in, which is only 0.005 in (or 0.125 mm) bigger than the 5/8 (0.625) in bolt. This is the first time in almost 20 cars worth of kits that I've heard of this issue.

How thick were the walls of the liners you had to put in? If you didn't have to drill out the holes in the knuckle, then theoretically the difference in the ID and OD of the liner will tell you how elongated the holes were.

Also as I mentioned, buying a metric rod end wouldn't help because the metric thread on the body wouldn't mate up to the threaded hole in the link body.

Threads in shear shouldn't be an issue. The stock dogbones used bolts that had threads in shear. The stock metric hardware is class 10.9, having an ultimate tensile strength of 150.8 ksi. The Grade 8 hardware I supply has an ultimate tensile strength of 150 ksi (both figures taken from Hardbar USA's Fastener Grading Chart), a difference of only 0.5%.

Looking at the stress on that bolt, the minor diameter of a 5/8-11 external thread is 0.5168 in (as listed in the Machinery's Handbook). Putting that in double shear means the link would have to see an axial force of 62,832 lb to break the bolt. If that amount of force was exerted on a single link, I don't believe the bolt would be the biggest issue. And even the above is a conservative estimate since in reality only one side of the application will have threads in shear. Assuming a double shear condition with only one side being threaded (more likely real world) I'm calculating a force of 77,430 lb would be necessary to break that bolt.

5/8" = 15.875mm

If they're tight it won't make a difference. As long as the slop in the hole is still under the bolt head, it'll be fine in the case it does come loose.

FWIW, I had my inner camber rods come loose, so I put locktite on them. Made for a helluva lot of camber in the meantime! I think the stock nuts are those oval type locking nuts.

This is why we use aircraft (AN) bolts on any stressed application on the racecars. Their lengths and washers ae designed to eliminate any shear on the threads.

The holes were definitely oblong, but that was a spare upright, not what's on the car.

I'm going to drill them out to 3/4in and put full steel inserts.

With the power I'm going to be putting down, I want to take as much play as possible

So the real issue is the holes in the knuckle, not the hardware I supplied? I still find it hard to believe that .005 in on a 0.625 in dia is gong to feel sloppy as you stated.

Unfortunately from the fastener vendors we looked at it was going to add some cost as well. I was really shooting to keep this as affordable as possible.

Since the Grade 8 hardware was so comparable to the stock class 10.9, and they both had threads in shear, I was confident in the substitution.

holes measured 16.4mm

The factory is not that precise, it's for a rubber bushing.

One of the issues with the threads in shear if that they act like a knife (or saw) on the brackets.

All you need to do it get a bolt with a 1/2in longer shank and the problems avoided.
