Neighbor brought home 2010 camaro, nice lines, 304hp,3.6L direct injection V6, Wow!! nice!!Has a 4 link independ.susp,...neighbor on the other side has 2009 Mustage GT. Seems like Twlight Zone episode.. flashback to the 60's FordvsChevy. Drove Camaro.. excellent torque curve, very refined.. Gt seems unrefined a little more the 600 pound gorilla. The Camaro guy said, he wanted the SS 4 week waiting list. :thumbright:

What is interesting, without any exception, the Mustang V8's are beating out the Camaro and Challenger V8s in various magazine comparo's.

Either way, they are all overweight pigs.

Weren't the Camaro and Mustang originally built as sporty muscle cars that the average Joe could afford?

Can the average person afford a $40k car?

I can't even imagine having that kind of money to spend on a vehicle.

My Vette, Lincoln and my wife's Tacoma don't add up to that.

The V6 in the Camaro has come a long way from the days of the 2.8 but does anybody with a dick REALLY want the V6 ?
I would have waited, it's only a deal IF you get what you want.

I don't object to the V6 (it has more HP than the LT1 in my 92!). I object to the nearly 4000 lb gross weight. That's absurd.

1/4 mile on the 2010 V6 is 14.5 and from a gm posting (1968) I have, my 427 does it in 14.1 I'm looking foward to see if the camaro really pulls it weight.

Since you can pick up a brand new vette for $40k, I think it's a bit much. The whole point of the camaro/mustang was to be an affordable car, like you said. I don't think it's that way, anymore.

The point was made that the base car is affordable to John Q Public. If you want to add some guts to the glory is when you have to pay for your testosterone rush, like for the SS/RS, SRT8, GT/Shelby GT. It's back to like when we were teenagers. If you or your Daddy has money, look what you can drive. I was not one of the kids with a rich daddy and from looking a my bank account I'm far from rich now.

I'm probably the only one here that doesn't like the look of the car. Don't like the front or the rear. But that's just my opinion.

If I had $40k or $24k, I'd have a Z06.

I like the front ok, even though it looks like a challenger. I hate the rear and the stance of the car. It just looks like a bloated version of it's former self.

Yea, the front just dosen't look Camero to me.
They should have taken a bare body and shipped it to Foose to do the front & rear.

No BS Bubba. If I had 40K to drop on another car, it would be a newer Vette, not a plastic-fantastic Camaro.

Yea, I wouldn't turn down a mint 69 Z28 though.
But, that's after I got a Z06 and kept the 92 & the 67.

I still think somebody should shove a new V8 in a new 2 door RWD car for under $30k.

If it had even a semblence of a back seat and decent trunk space, I'd sell both my cars for a little better than a 30% down payment.

I'd even crank up my own windows, and install my own stereo.

Cruise control? Who gives a F? You can keep your remote trunk release, keyless entry and power mirrors too. Just gimmie the motor, competent suspension, a 6 speed and maybe A/C.

New Mustang GT, 315 horsepower, 18" wheels and a Tremec 5 speed with a MSRP of 28K. You can drive one home for 26K.
For 30K out the door you can get a really nice one, polished rims, track pack, honkin stereo and a stripe kit.

I love my 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis, V8 RWD and it was 18K NEW after the 6500.00 rebate etc. Hasn't so much as made a funny noise yet. It's BIG it's boring and peaceful. You can't buy anything even remotely similar for that kind of coin.

I didn't realize the GT was that affordable...

I sure do love my Lincoln. That thing hauls ass, AND all my video gear.

Hmmm... Now I just need about 15k. Need to start saving. Maybe I'll ask the dealer if I can try to stow my gear in the trunk of one, and see how it fits.

OH MY!!!!

My buddy bought a new, at the time, 2007 GT. I think he ended up paying $24k for it. New, off of the lot. He got a 6 speed, put headers and a cold air kit on it, and it can eat my 87 for lunch!

Damn him!

They just started heads up 1/8 mile racing on Friday nights at Homestead Speedway a couple of months back. Lots of my buddies go. It's just head to head, win or lose. They dont even have a light tree. Just a nice lookin gal that motions go. We have a 91 with a supercharged 383 and a stock 90. The 90 is too slow against the competition and I don't want to beef it up. So what's the best(new)street runner for head to head for under 30K? Is the Mustang the only good offering? It's always great to come to a Corvette site and discuss how much we love Camaros, Mustangs, Chargers, Challengers, older Z06s and our own torque pulling creations. Not too many rice supporters from what I've noticed. Remember the stripped down cars they used to make just for running? Now everything is loaded with heavy options. Like Chris was saying, a basic lightweight car with rear wheel drive and a good sized 8 cylinder. The only must have option I need is A/C.
