My offer was to help with the cabinets! I could install the sink....without the plumbing. Nobody really wants me to do the plumbing.

Howdy! Nice and sunny today, and it's supposed to be in the low-70's by tee-time later. Quite a change of pace from the 40's we had last Tuesday.

Matt, I think Tom just offered to come up there and do the plumbing for the new sink ;-)

Have a good day, all!

Morning guys....As a matter of fact I do, Matt. When we re-did our kitchen last fall we bought a granite composite sink by Blanco. Best price we found was on Amazon. Bought the matching strainers too. Talked to a counter top installer and he tells me there is another one lust like Blanco except less money that is just a good or maybe better, but I don't remember the name. Wish I could be there to lead a hand.

Pretty morning here, cool, but sunny. Work in the shop today on the butcher block top island. Better get to it.

Good Morning CGs!

Went to see dad last night. The geriatric floor he's on now is ten times better than the last hospital. It is part of our original hospital that we go to, so it's different. The staff is better and I explained everything to them. The way they treat them and allow them to move around is better. Dad wasn't given any more drugs. The doctor thinks my mom might be right that when my dad falls, it causes some sort of confusion in his body/brain and takes extra time to heal or readjust. Hopefully he can get back to the nursing home soon.

The granite counter top upgrade is in full swing. Yesterday we paid the deposit and picked out our slabs. Today we are going to buy a sink at the plumbing supply house (TB, got any tips? ). I have to rip out the old counter tops this week because it's saving us $200. Then I have to modify the cabinet filler trim a bit because we are switching from a built in stove/cooktop to a standard oven/stove combo. No biggie. The kitchen will surely look different. Installer also mentioned a little cash discount. I think he's happy to not do any prep work, too. We are pretty easy clients for the most part. Wife is looking forward to having it done, so am I.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

I have a contact from CF who lives about 90 miles from here...he sent me what he had left over from what he used on his car......I will look it up tomorrow....orange would look great.....I used my framing square's wide blade to work the welting into the gap......fit well but gets a bit tight by the speaker........I will post the thread later.......

as far as sound deadener goes it's got to help I'm thinking......I was actually looking for another product but this is what they had so gave it a try......will be going to Manhattan soon and that will be a good test.....someone said that behind the seats was a must to keep the tire noise and road noise out.....

Oh, interested in the welting too. Where did you get it and how did it go on? I'm thinking orange though.

Hey guys, good day for me. I got the door hung and a couple of other things done over in the 'city'. Got home, unloaded, then got my clubs and went out to play golf. Had better nights playing golf, but a bad night playing golf is still better than working.

I'm interested in how well this works Marcus. Wrapping the exhaust seemed to help interior heat on mine.

WTF. Did they stand behind it or did you have an independent reweld?

Mark Williams makes a very nice piece but he seemed apprehensive to doing it when I called.

Press Release:

CORVETTE RACING AT MONTEREY: GTLM Points Lead Heading to Le Mans

Visit Florida Racing, No. 31 Action Express Racing Corvette DPs on overall podium

  • Fuel strategy nearly pays off for Garcia, Magnussen
  • Gavin, Milner retain GTLM points battle despite pit penalty
  • Goossens, Dalziel second after starting from pit lane

MONTEREY, Calif. (May 1, 2016) – Corvette Racing ended its early-season IMSA campaign with fourth- and seventh-place finishes in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class in the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix, results that were good enough for America’s premier GT racing team and Chevrolet to retain their Driver, Manufacturer and Team points lead heading to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen led Corvette Racing’s efforts Sunday at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in the No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R. It was their best result since finishing second to open the season in the Rolex 24 At Daytona. Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin in the No. 4 Corvette C7.R finished high enough in the order to keep their championship advantage.

Meanwhile, two Corvette Daytona Prototypes finished on the overall podium. Visit Florida Racing’s No. 90 VisitFlorida.com Corvette DP of Marc Goossens and Ryan Dalziel placed second despite starting from pitlane and serving an opening-lap penalty for not completing the pre-race formation laps.

Eric Curran and Dane Cameron were third in Action Express Racing’s No. 31 Whelen Engineering/Team Fox Corvette DP. That was enough to move them into the Prototype Driver’s Championship lead after four races with Visit Florida Racing now third in Driver’s and Team points. The two cars ran nose to tail for the better part of 40 minutes to close the race.

Action Express Racing’s duo of Joao Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi in the No. 5 Mustang Sampling Corvette DP are now second in Prototype points after their seventh-place finish. Ricky Taylor and Jordan Taylor in the Wayne Taylor Racing No. 10 Konica Minolta Corvette DP unofficially sit fourth in points after a sixth-place finish. The two cars were involved in an early-race incident that sent both prototypes off track.

Back in GTLM, both Corvette C7.R teams fought back from adversity. Milner drove the first stint in the No. 4 Corvette and pitted from fifth place, and Gavin brought the C7.R back in for its last fuel fill with 42 minutes left. Unfortunately the team was called for a drive-through penalty when the Corvette’s wheels spun while it was still on its air jacks.

The result dropped Gavin back to 10th, but he picked up three spots in the final 39 minutes.

The No. 3 Corvette team attempted to complete the two-hour race on one pit stop, but Garcia had to come in for a splash on the final lap while running second in class. It was a testament to the strategy and fuel savings by Garcia and the No. 3 C7.R camp that the Corvette only fell two spots on the last stop.

Corvette Racing’s next event is the 84th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 18-19 from the Circuit de la Sarthe in France. The team is the defending GTE Pro race-winner and is the first sports car team to win five straight endurance Triple Crown events – Daytona, Sebring and Le Mans.

Corvette Daytona Prototype teams will race in the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic presented by Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers on Saturday, June 4 from the Raceway at Belle Isle Park.

CORVETTE RACING QUOTES

JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED FOURTH IN GTLM: “It wasn’t a great stint for me at the start. I didn’t really have the speed to do much other than try and keep up with Tommy (Milner in the No. 4 Corvette). I lost a lot of rear grip at the end with the new tire. It was a bit of a gamble on the fuel at the end. We lost out by a half-lap but that’s how these things go. It wasn’t the worst weekend but it should have been better for us. Now we go away and test for Le Mans. Hopefully the second half of this season will be better for us on the No. 3 car than the first half.”

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED FOURTH IN GTLM: “I kind of knew when I got in the car that it was going to be a fuel race. I was already saving fuel before the team asked me to. It was tough to be surrounded by so many cars and Olly to keep the fuel usage low and still stay competitive. We almost made it. It was a shame that we lost telemetry for a number of laps. Our engineers couldn’t give me a fuel number to hit, so we were kind of guessing to see what we needed to do to go to the end. It’s a shame we had to pit with a lap to go. It’s not really nice being in pits waiting for fuel when you see the white flag waving. Sometimes the strategy works and sometimes it doesn’t. We were about a half-lap shy today. I’m happy with how the Corvette developed over the weekend. We need to keep working on these tires ahead of Le Mans. The first four races, we’ve been very competitive but just haven’t gotten the results. Getting fourth today with the extra stop is something we can be happy with.”

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED SEVENTH IN GTLM: “It is always close in our class. That's racing. You are going to have some contact every now and then. The Ferrari and I had a little run-in there at the start which was good racing. I had to run wide there in the last corner and he could have given me a bit more room but I can't fault him for that. Like I said, hopefully no more paint. But if we have to, we will.”

HOW DID THE NEW MICHELIN TIRE WORK OUT? "Looking at practice, it seemed like the long-run stuff was going to be super important and we focused on that. The car was pretty good; I still had some issues with drive off the corners so we are still learning. It is still all brand new to us, but Michelin always brings great stuff. It is just a matter of us getting our heads around what makes these tires work and we know Corvette Racing will work hard to make that happen."

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED SEVENTH IN GTLM: "The No. 25 BMW  didn't fight me hard near the end. Then I was catching the other BMW and the No. 911 Porsche very quickly. We were fighting so hard. Then in Turn Three, the Porsche stuck it on the inside of the BMW and the pair of them swung super wide, and I just slung-shot my way past the and that was no problem. And then I was on the tail of the Porsche, the 911. He wasn't bad but you could see that he would be good for a lap, and then he would start to go away again. I knew that if I could get myself out of Turn 10 and into 11 well I could up the inside of him. He didn't fight me hard and I got by him. Then it was a case of me pushing it. Chuck (Houghton, No. 4 Corvette race engineer) was on the radio saying that the No. 62 Ferrari and the Ford were slower. I was chasing them, but I just ran out of laps. But I certainly would have had one of them if not both. It was a frustrating day, but ultimately the guys we were fighting in the championship it wasn't bad. We lost some ground to the 912 Porsche, but we scored more points than the 911 and the 25. We didn’t make a gain but there was also no real loss in the championship today. But I felt happy and pretty comfortable with the car. That last stint it was solid to drive; the balance wasn't bad and we just had to manage the tires. But I’m frustrated about the pit stop - that just undid us.  We have been so strong all year in the pits, it was just that small bobble when the car just didn't come down when we needed it to come down. These things sometimes happen. It is part of racing. Everybody will have one of those during the year."

CORVETTE DAYTONA PROTOTYPE QUOTES

MARC GOOSSENS, VISIT FLORIDA RACING NO. 90 VISITFLORIDA.COM CORVETTE DP – FINISHED SECOND: “The car came back to us during the first part of the race and we had more for them. Ryan (Dalziel) did a great job, starting from pit lane and making himself wait for traffic. I tried to do the same thing. Our pace wasn’t bad but I don’t think we had the strongest car. Then when the accident happened between the 5 and the 10, we thought we could come away with some good points. So this is really a fantastic result, and a great reward for all the work the Visit Florida guys put into working on the car and improving what we could this weekend."

RYAN DALZIEL, VISIT FLORIDA RACING NO. 90 VISITFLORIDA.COM CORVETTE DP – FINISHED SECOND: “We obviously got lucky, but our race pace was quite good. We had a really good strategy to pit early and leap frog some guys. Marc had to hang on at the end. It was a really tough weekend with a lot of bad luck so we feel we deserve a podium. We’ll take it, and make the car better for the next one. We never put our heads down; we were frustrated but we focused on making it better. We’re not where we want to be yet, we still have some work to do. But we woke up this morning hoping it would be better, but I don’t think we expected this!”

RICKY TAYLOR, WAYNE TAYLOR RACING NO. 10 KONICA MINOLTA CORVETTE DP – FINISHED SIXTH IN PROTOTYPE: “It’s hard to pass around here, so I finally was able to get by Christian and then I just felt a hit in the right rear going into the next corner. We were racing hard, but I think there’s a difference between getting into each other door-to-door than front-to-rear. Obviously, it’s a disappointing result but other teams that we are fighting for the championship didn’t have a great day today, either. The No. 31 (Action Express Racing Corvette DP) didn’t get as many points as they could’ve, and the No. 5 finished behind us. So we’ll go to the next race at Detroit with our great car, which is always fast there, and we’ll pick up there and take the positives we can from here. We’re just six points back in the championship, which isn’t that much. We’ve got a great team and we’re going to keep pushing. It’s still early in the year. This time last year, we were much further behind, so I think we’ve got a good chance.”

Sorry to hear it Matt.....tough situation.....hoping for the best!

Well it was a cold and rainy weekend so I did what most folks do.....I tore all the back interior out of the GS and put sound deadener in it.....lots of work, took me both days but got it all back in working order....my hands and back are sore today......

all out....

Resized Image

putting the Thermo guard FR in it.....something I picked up at NAPA....I used 60 square ft doing the back end and behind the seats and had only a hand full of scraps left over....

Resized Image

I had to buy a new set of Aviation tin snips to cut the stuff.....the insulation side was some tuff stuff...

Resized Image

Also put some nifty red welt piping on the doors...which is all the rage now....I like it......puts a little color in the cabin.....

Resized Image

Have not driven the car so can't tell if all the work was worth it but it has to help...right?

Enjoy your day Guru's........

Distraction is elementary in dealing with situations beyond our control. Dwelling on a matter does little to change the outcome.

Good Morning CGs!

Bad news on the medical front. Dad had a couple of falls the past few days and yesterday he was aggressive with staff adn grabbed someone. That means a trip to the ER for eval. That happened last night around 8 pm. I talked to him on the phone and calmed him down, but it was too late. So mom went up to the ER and they will admit him to check his meds, etc. I will go up there today and visit. He won't be going back to the place he was before.

My therapy for this is buying tools, so I hit ebay this morning and bought some ratchets. That's what most people do, right?

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Morning guys...I'm up and headed for the 'city'. Have a mess to make in my clients house. Don't have much choice though. At least the sun is shining this morning. Today is the first of our golf association Mens nights. KC strips on the menu. Got to make sure I'm done and back home so I can go out for that.

Hidey-ho! It's pretty tired out this morning, was up way past my bedtime. I don't know how much of the Who concert was real, and how much was smoke and mirrors, but I enjoyed the hell out of it. Zak Starkey was phenomenal, made me not miss Moonie so much. Anyway, I'll be making a bee-line to my nap chair later.

Have a good one, Gurus!

Where to start. Happiness and sorrow.
Flywheel came in. Fit the crank and floater but not the pressure plate. Sent it back to be inspected by McLeod. Hope to have it back soon. THis held up the trans and driveshaft install. Still no stub axles so no halfshafts which is holding up final measurement for rear top coil mount location.

Now onto the good.

Dennys Driveshaft and Halfshafts came in. Nitrous ready. Solid 1350 spicer ujoints.

Wilwood 6pot front came in.

Went from this.

to this.

After test fit for shims I started the final install. Found out I hated doing safety wire.

But got the hang of it at the end.

And installed. Also finished installing the passenger side plastics in the wheel well. Meth tank and pump tuck in very nicely behind it all. Center piece took minor trimming to fit over coilover mount.

Also got my C beam back from coating.

And 4 more boxes.

Forgestar F14. 18x10 front deep concave. 18x11 rear super deep concave.

Black lugs and valve stem.

Testing fitment with charge pipe.

Tires are ordered. 285 Hankook fronts and 305 R888 rears.

Speaking of speaking of f*#king plumbing. I have a couple irrigation risers I have to move away from the shed I've been working on. I think the shed will be done BEFORE I move the risers to their now location. For the very reason listed above. " I hate f*#king plumbing".

A couple years back he was re-doing the bathroom and his plumber screwed up and made the riser from the handle to the spout too short for the big round trim plate to fit above the spout. So for the last two years the spout has stuck out from the wall. With the new job, it means a move and selling this house. Anyway they were having an "Open House" today and his wife wanted this faux pas fixed. I told him I could cut the plate to fit around the spout and it would look fine. You have to understand, he hates plumbing more than I. So I go to remove the spout, should be hand tight, but no, I'm really straining and it isn't budging. So I grab my pair of channel lock pliers, grab the extension pipe (where it's too long and sticks out from the wall) and start to turn it. Sure enough it starts to turn, so I grab another bite on it and twist again. Sh!t, "Something isn't right here, Bob." I twisted the copper L into oblivion and completely off. Luckily, there was an access panel where we could get to the valve. I was able to remove the nipple and take it to my shop where I was able to un-solder the thing and solder a new L on (Luckily I found one). I cut the plate and we went back and put everything back together and I'm a HERO with his wife. I was just lucky that we didn't have water gushing out all over the place.

And THAT's why they call it f*#king plumbing

Jewelry tools? No, I know my limits.

Besides, I'd just use the terminal tools that I have specifically for repinning wiring harnesses. I'm pretty sure I'll use them one day.

Hey guys...slept in a bit, then went to the 'city' for weekly groceries. Back home to do work in the shop, and went over to #2 house and weed edged for her. She's mowed a couple times but her weed eater wasn't working and it needed it bad...took me 2 hours and about 50' of trimmer line. When I got home there were two computers here for me to work on. Got them done, well, one is finished, the other one is really finished, as in DOA.

Tomorrow I'll be headed back to the 'city' to hang the door I built and do a little trim work.

Not unless they're made by MAC, NAPA, Craftsman and a few other higher grade tool companies.

Greetings! I'd still be sleeping, except it's too bright out. So I may as well get cracking on the engine. I have some small jewelry tools, I think I can use something from that assortment to swap the terminals.

Enjoy the day, yawlz!

HAPPY BELTANE, GURUS!

SUNNY AND COLD IN THE NATIONS THIS MORNING. THE CHEROKEES ARE DIGGING OUT THEIR LONG-SLEEVE SHIRTS AGAIN.

DARLING WIFE IS HAVING A PARTY FOR HER LADIES CLUB TOMORROW; THE FORECAST TODAY IS FOR UNSETTLED ATMOSPHERE WITH SCATTERED "HONEY-DOS" AND OCCASIONAL MILD PANICS.

Hi, my name is Tom and I f@(%ing hate plumbing.

"Welcome, Tom"

Been working on the shed the past couple of days. Framed and mounted the little A/C and put up a couple more outside wall sheets yesterday. 2 sheets more to go then a couple of smaller areas on the outside to finish, plus trim. I'm trudging along like little Tommy Train.

Good Morning CGs!

First day of May already! Same story every year, as you get older the years seem to move faster.

Yesterday was a big success, despite the weather. Church went well with no mishaps. The after party was at an Italian restaurant about 15 minutes away. We were packed in a little tight but we had one whole section to ourselves. Total included 40 adults, 17 kids, and 2 babies. Everyone was impressed with the food, and it really was good. Even had some leftover to take home. The bill ended up being less than I expected, as well. That's never a bad surprise. RR#1 ended up getting a lot of envelopes to go towards her college fund. Polish people are very generous in that regard.

More rain and gloom today, so I won't get the lawn cut. I will see my sister/BIL/niece some more before they head home, though.

Brad - glad you got the motor in. Any luck finding a terminal tool locally?

Tommy - I would love to see Boston if they ever came around. Sounds like a great concert.

Marcus - Amazon seems like a good place to work if you're inside the building, etc. I've heard it sucks being a driver doing deliveries, but such is life.

TB - do you have to rebuild the valve or replace it?

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

That dog dance was unbelievable.......I have no idea how long it would take to train a dog to do all that .......I feel lucky if our dog is just trained to go potty outside......

Worked all day on the GS......took a while to figure out how to get the interior tore apart.....hope I can get it back together again.....I'm sore from all the bending over into the back of the car. Got 2/3's of the deadener in...will try and finish it up tomorrow......sucker better be like a church in there after all this work..... I have taken some pics which I will get up when I'm done....... Good night cub scouts..........

I got the old mower engine out and did some clean-up - I'll put the new one in tomorrow. I need to hunt down a small tool for re-pinning an electrical connector, otherwise it should be smooth sailing. When I drained the oil on the old engine, I got about 3/4 gallon of gas/oil mix - I'm pretty sure the carburetor float stuck wide open.
