Chill on the special interests...

The reality is very real. Gasoline, as it sits, is a toxic material. It is made up of unchained hydrocarbons and as such, is a known atmospheric toxin. The average lawnmower will leach more gas vapour into the atmosphere in a day than a car will in a month... or some stupid statistic like that.

A vintage car will absolutely pollute more with a full tank of gas in it, just sitting there, not running, than a modern car will driving... I don't remember the ratio off hand, but the numbers are mind boggling.

I have stated this before, but I do live in Los Angeles. I have seen pollution first hand and it lives in the basin.

You see, LA is basin. There are mountains on the north, east and south sides, and a cold ocean, with an ever present inversion layer, to the west. This keeps the area stuck in it's own air for long periods of time. The native indigenous population called LA the "great smoky valley" even 200 years ago, because of the way the smoke hung in the air.

Back in about 1968, after SMOG was first identified and named, they put air filters on the roofs of tall buildings in downtown LA. These filters were white things with slats and a thick white filter paper inside. They captured particulate emissions.

After 1 day - ONE DAY - they were pitch black.

Fast forward to 1983 (or so), and those same filters could sit up there for 90 days and turn just a light shade of off grey. Improvement. Yes, it had its cost, but the benefits are worth it.

The reality? The simple act of adding the PCV to an engine cut emissions by a real percentage and didn't effect performance one damned bit. EGR, same thing. And it helps cut down on knock, win-win. The real ding was the early catalytic converter, those things were junk and sucked power like a cheap hooker. Add in the drop in compression ratios, the change in horsepower ratings, and yes, the regulations sucked...

However, tech caught up making modern hot rods impressive as hell... You can walk into your local Dodge dealer and walk out with a 700hp sedan that still gets 20mpg on the highway, for not insane money. Deals exist on used Corvette Z06's, where you can get 505hp, 24 mpg highway, for under $40k!!! And it's daily drivable. Insane in the membrane...

1948, or so, the steel industry in Pittsburgh was polluting the air so bad that it left the city cast in permanent midnight. And don't forget when the Monongalia river caught fire! Look it up.

I am not some leftist tree hugger, but I am a realist and I like to breath clean air and drink clean water. That requires thoughtful regulation.

So, if you want to breath clean air, think before you let some conspiracy theories or neo-NAZI propaganda confuse the issue.

As for the emissions part, yes, there is a vacuum line. As I said, the valve array is under the ASR servo. There are a couple of lines that feed it and come off the left side of the intake. You should see a couple of 1/8" hard lines, and some soft lines, down below the A/C compressor, heading to an area below the ASR servo. Not hard to follow, just be careful what you disconnect and what you connect, I think those lines also feed the ductwork inside the car.

Toss in the suspect connector and all sorts of failures are potentially present.

Great fix!!

The MAP is very important to helping the engine get the right fuel flow. Without it, all hell breaks loose!

Thanks for posting!

Do they have a Corvette Corral? I see no info, but I was curious... This was a track I have always wanted to visit. The sight lines are super sweet with the undulating hills and stuff.

Morning guys... been AWOL the last few days. Been really pretty ibn the mornings, cool and calm, but heats up by afternoon, into the low to mid 90s.

Wednesday had a call from our "Senior Center" director asking me if I was interested in driving a vehicle for a 'day trip' to a historical site on Thursday. It was funny, as Rosie saw a notice about the trip, we talked about it, but she missed the signup deadline. She told me I'd be driving the car with just two people, so room for Rosie too...and she'd pay me. So we agreed to go. It was a great time, we followed the two vans and our passengers were 94 and mid 70s year old ladies, quite enjoyable. And learned some really cool history.

Today I'm playing golf with a couple friends from over in the city. Better get going.... Have a great day.

The sun is shining and 90's in the forecast. July and August are the toughest months to survive in South Florida with September and October only marginally better. That's life in the tropics. Looking forward to November through April.

Well, I pulled the codes and I think I found my miss. I pulled codes H33 and H34, IIRC. Map high and Map low. I ordered a new one from Rock auto, along with the connector, which disintegrated when I tried to disconnect it. The check engine light was not illuminated. A bad Map can cause a misfire due to improper fuel being delivered. I hope this cures the problem.

Ah, copy that Bogus... So, does it attach to a vacuum line anywhere? I have to be honest with you Bogus, I could really care less about emissions. Just more regulation from an out of control special interest agency, it's main purpose appears to be to bankrupt the U.S. and infringe on peoples freedoms...

upon reflection, this is the evap system. It runs from a valve gang under the ASR servo, and vents fuel vapours into the charcoal canister.

you see, evap emissions are a real problem. As gas evaporates, it is a hard core pollutant. And this is a simple way to pressurize the fuel system and capture and burn off the vapours. This makes an epic impact on emissions, without effecting performance.

Yesterday, the 24th of August, was the 30th anniversary of Hurricane Andrew. That event was one of the most traumatic of my life. The two other memorable emotional traumas were almost losing my son to Kawasaki Syndrome (named after Dr. Kawasaki) in 1979 and Sue's accident in 1989. It took her years to recover from and she still suffers repurcussions. Those experiences strengthened me to handle many less critical issues. Check out this story on remembering Andrew. Certainly for me it is something I will never forget.

Went to the dental surgeon this morning to have the remainder of the broken tooth removed. Not suprisingly the area feels very similar to an area that has had a tooth removed. Prefer that anyday than an extraction by Sal and Guido for information or a debt repayment. The total for the extraction and implant comes in at a cost about equal to half the purchase price of an early C4 in todays market. I guess that's why a lot of people prefer to go toofless.

Good Morning CGs!

Marcus, I'm surprised you don't have a fancy john Deere gps guided mower.

Gris, what were you shooting at?

Did 2 12s this week already, hoping for more. Can't say no.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning- overcast here in Garland but nice out. I brought my coffee to the pool area, got it to myself. Yes Gris Rockwell right near here. I think this lake was formed from a result of building stuff in the area.
Nothing on my to do list today but sit here and listen to the birds chirp and cats go by. There’s a Mediterranean restaurant across the street I might walk to and that’s about it.

CORVETTE RACING AT VIR: Going for Another Overall Win
Program seeking fourth overall win at GT-only weekend in Virginia

DETROIT (Aug. 23, 2022) – Corvette Racing seeks to win overall for the fifth time and sixth in class at Virginia International Raceway as the team returns to the track this weekend for the Michelin GT Challenge at VIR.

It’s the second of two GT-only races on the calendar for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The event, scheduled for 2:10 p.m. ET on Sunday, is one that Corvette Racing has dominated since it went to its current format in 2014.

A Corvette Racing entry has claimed overall wins four times at VIR in IMSA competition, including each of the last two years. Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor, who share the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C8.R, were victors in 2020 in the now-extinct GT Le Mans (GTLM) category.

They were second a year ago to Corvette teammates Tommy Milner and Nick Tandy, who are partnering this season in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

This year is the first for Corvette in the new GT Daytona (GTD) PRO category, and as such is the first at VIR for the GTD Corvette – which runs with more weight, less power, an anti-lock braking system and a spec Michelin tire compared to the GTLM class.

Aside from a win at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in March, the season has been mostly frustrating with a runner-up finish at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and third-place showings at Long Beach and Road America.

Corvette Racing’s love affair with VIR goes back to 2012. This will be the team’s 11th appearance at the 3.27-mile, 17-turn road course. The configuration of the circuit – two long straights and a mix of low- medium- and high-speed corners – creates opportunities for a number of engineering and strategic decisions. That’s an area where Corvette Racing has a distinct advantage given its 24-year history of competition.

The Michelin GT Challenge at VIR is scheduled for 2:10 p.m. ET on Sunday, August 28. The race will air live on CNBC and stream live on Peacock beginning at 2 p.m. ET. IMSA Radio will broadcast Saturday’s final practice and qualifying with the race call Sunday at IMSA.com, on XM 207 and SiriusXM Online 992.

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: "VIR has everything... nice flow, especially. This should be a good weekend for us. It's another 'first' weekend for the GTD Corvette. We don't know where we will stand. There are some long straightaways, so we will have to decide on the best aero package to see what is most beneficial. It's a track where we always have fun at and have a ton of success. Hopefully it's the same way this year again.
"There are a few tracks where we have to find aero balance like what we need at VIR. I would consider this track like Canadian Tire Motorsport Park or Watkins Glen where there are fast speeds and slow sections, but you probably need to take care of your top speed. At times, it pays to be a little lighter on downforce and being fast on the straights. We will figure out what's best.”

JORDAN TAYLOR, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: "In terms of enjoyment of driving around, VIR is probably in the top-three of the tracks we go to. It's one of those natural-terrain tracks that still feels like an old-school track. There's not much margin for error... high speeds and lots of elevation changes. It's just a lot of fun to drive. It's one of the ones we always look forward to going to.
"It's a place where you can get caught out pretty quickly with a lot of blind corners that are high-speed. So you do have to be careful. It's one of the better tracks we go to because it's an all-GT race. If we had prototypes there, it would be pretty difficult because of how narrow it is. Every time we go there, the racing is always tough and tight. We saw that last year in the GTLM class with only three cars. Going back there this year with a little bit bigger grid, the racing should be super good."

• 4: Overall VIR race wins for Corvette Racing – 2016, 2017, 2020 and 2021. Antonio Garcia was part of the first three
• 5: Class wins at VIR for Corvette Racing, the most among IMSA entrants. Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin won in ALMS GT competition in 2012, and Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen won overall in 2016 and 2017. Garcia and Jordan Taylor drove the C8.R to a win in 2020 with Milner and Nick Tandy victorious a year ago

• 262: Event starts by Corvette Racing since 1999
• 5,902.35: Number of racing miles completed by Corvette Racing in its eight previous trips to Virginia International Raceway. If all goes to plan, the team will surpass 6,000 miles after 30 laps in this year’s race
• 346,160.95: Total number of racing miles completed by Corvette Racing since its inception. To put that in perspective, Corvette Racing is more than halfway to the distance traveled by Apollo 13 – the longest manned spaceflight in history: 622,268 miles. That means Corvette Racing has raced to the moon and more than halfway back!

Good shot Gris! UMan that trip sounds awesome, I e not camped in couple years, ready to start doing things again. Tommy glad you got a pretty good report. We made it to the hotel about an hour 1/2 late yesterday, he forgot his papers so we had to turn around about 30 mins in, then ran into a detour that was backed up. Rained most of the way here. Dallas had had floods and it’s been bad but I’m in Garland just east outside Dallas so good here. We hit a brew joint last night for good food and some craft beers . Today I slept in and got a 2-hour workout in and now out by the pool with a cold adult beverage. Not sure what’s up later he’ll be here around 330.
Y’all have a good one

Good afternoon- I don’t know where the last few days went. I worked Friday on my off day and ran my hind end off. Don’t remember what we did after but Saturday we went to get my car. I found myself behind everything a new paint job don’t need to be around. Seat sucked up the whole way home but it’s there where I can do a long list of other stuff I need to do. Yesterday I cleaned and didn’t set down till around 9. We left at 8 this morning headed to Garland TX till Thursday. He has GM hands-on training and I wanted out of the house.
I too need to purge, we’ll probably never afford to retire but I got too much chit

Went to the dentist today about the lost crown. I lost the crown and also broke the tooth. Nothing left to crown so it was either a denture, a filler tooth that you can put in and take out at night made of hard plastic or an implant. I asked the dentist if it were him what he would do and he said implant. I was thinking along those lines when I went in so I opted for the implant. Surgery on Wednesday then a temp tooth for a few months while the bone growws around the new post. It will cost me about the amount we just sold one of the golf carts for. Need that tooth so it's a no brainer for me. And it's a medical expense write off on our taxes. If you want to eat meat you have to have good teeth.

The picture didn't post. It's a vacuum line on the heater line above the steering shaft.

IT'S A PRETTY MORNING IN THE NATIONS, 72 ON THE FRONT PORCH, 98% HUMIDITY AT TAHLEQUAH, GOING FOR 87 DEGREES LATER.

AUTO ROTATION DAY, MAY JUST PUT IT OFF A WHILE, DIDN'T GET ANY TOP DOWN TIME LAST WEEK.
PRIMARY RUNOFF ELECTIONS TOMORROW, MAYBE WE WILL GET A BREAK FROM POLITICKING FOR A LITTLE WHILE :-|
DIDN'T GET THE RAIN THAT WAS THREATENED ALL LAST WEEK, MAY GET SOME SUNDAY, THEY SAY.

KEEP UP THE FIRE---

Good Morning CGs!

Should be a decent day here. Had some rain over the weekend but everything is clear now.

Went to an anniversary / birthday surprise party over the weekend. Saw some family we haven't seen since before covid. That was nice.

Back to the daily grind, though. Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Afternoon CGs!

I feel the purge there, Tommy. Part of me wants more stuff, part of me wants to let it go. Guess it depends on the "stuff" - like the kids and furniture aren't that important but tools and cars can always be more plentiful

Gris - there's an old quote that if you're not a millionaire when you start in Congress you will be by the time you leave. Seems true enough.

Hope everyone has a great day!

G'mornin.

We are continuing with a long term purge of the household. Sue has a table set up at the nursery and customers are picking up items they want as they shop for plants. We're getting rid of stuff and making a few bucks too. Getting rid of Daryl's stuff we have stored for years. He's done nothing with it and we're not going to hold any of it anymore. Haven't seen him since January. He lives in a different time and place. Sue is seriously pursuing selling the nursery. The right offer takes the whole operation lock stock and barrel except for some items she wants to keep, like her skidsteer. Prepping for full time retirement mode. It will happen when it happens but we're on the path. Always lots to do. A local code enforcement officer has ticketed a couple of neighbors for having cargo containers in the yards. Ours is part of our home plant nursery operation so I don't think there is anything they can do about it. Plus, you can't see it from the street anyway. Casino sucked me dry last night and last time too. Lowers my wishing to go for a visit. Alrighty then. That's enough out of me.
