This is a general thread to see who interested in the GGTG at the Long Beach GP. I would expect Guru's from Cali to respond but would also like to see if anyone from afar would like to come on down. Andy and I thought this would be a nice kick-off to many more GTG's in this area and also other area's, if we could get someone to step up and be a local coordinator to plan GTG's in your area. Just respond to this thread if you would like to attend.

Thanks.

I agree with you all about the drain and that something aint right, that four day drain was on the old battery, since then I bought a new battery and a battery tender, I have yet to let it sit without the tender so I really don't know if it will drain as fast as before, not really sure if I want to find out either. I guess my solution was to get the tender and not worry about it anymore. BTW how long can a car sit before the battery drains. My wifes Cavalier sat for a good 2 months without starting and it cranked right up??

Just curious.

I'm pretty sure I have a drain somewhere......

I would like to know the answer to this. I drive my C4 everyday M-F, but if I start to drive my C5 and let the C4 sit for four or more days, the battery drains. I bought a battery tender and haven't had a problem since so that may be the answer. Your thoughts?????

One thing I do like at the other forum is the ability to search all of your own recent post, within the past 1,2,5 days up to 2 weeks. Sometimes I just want to only see all the threads I replied to.

Well it's still Thursday so I will add my 2 cents. Tomorrow is Friday and it's my last day of work for two long weeks, I will be on vacation until the 7th of Jan 08 Time to complete some stuff on my honey dew list. I've already started by buying my wife a 42" plasma and a real nice TV stand to put it on, put it all together tonight, she's happy as a fag in an all boys school. now get this, her birthday is on the 22nd, that's also my sons bday. Dang, three days before christmas. I guess I got a busy week ahead of me. just sharing a little.

I think it's called the coolant temperature sensor and it's located in the front of the motor. you can replace it to see if that's the problem (don't cost much) but you may have to get what they call a coolant temperature sensor update kit because you may not be able to find the OEM part.

Ok, lets see if i can make sense when i say this. There is a sensor on the motor that tells the computer when the engine is hot or cold, this directly affects the way the engine runs, i'm not sure but it sounds to me if that sensor is bad and the computer thinks the engine is hot when it's actually cold thus the smoking, and when the engine gets to a hotter temp then it starts to act right. does it idle high at start up like it should??? again i'm not sure if this is your issue but i had a simular problem and that was my problem. hope this helps.

here in lies the thermostat...

the truth - it's not a thermostat. It's a heat valve. Once it gets up to temp, it opens. It's that easy.

If the engine gets too hot, the t-stat won't cool it back down. Only the fans can do that. And that isn't even a guarantee. Air temp, flow issues all come into play.

Now... it's obvious what happens when an engine overheats. but people never think about under heated engines. Now, this is a more modern problem, mostly caused by the nature of better machining and tighter tolerances. Add in the fact that different metals expand and contract at different rates, an overly cool engine can prematurely wear.

Next comes the real knee slapper - a warmer engine runs more efficiently. Yes. It does. the compression event happens more efficiently than does a colder engine. Now, the air DOES need to be cold coming in, but a properly warmed engine isn't the enemy of power people want you to believe.

How right you are Bogus, but knowing the correct engine operating temp is the key. You can control the temp of the engine (high or low) too low not good, too high not good either. From what i've seen and heard the C4 runs great at about 200-215, but not bad either at 185-200. Now i'm starting to confuse myself anyway I see that the common denominator is 200 given air/fuel mixture, plugs, injectors (spray), fuel pressure, alright, now I'm really confused hey, do a great tune and enjoy it, if it runs and sounds good then so be it. HEHEHE

The Tstat & the low temp switch works hand in hand.

I have an 84 and before I put my low temp tstat in I was running at around 215-220, which was cool for me but I put in a 180 tstat and now my fan come on around 192 and goes off at 180. Runs great.
