Morning,

Looks like most of you are in rest mode this morning. The temp has dropped here also. A couple of nights ago it was 46 degrees in early morning. Today and tomorrow we are suppose to get some rain. Probably will be scattered. Next week in the 70s.

Most of the wheat and other small grains are harvested. We have a lot of small farmers around here, but in the county there are maybe a dozen with 10000 plus acres. There is also a fair amount of corn and sunflowers waiting to be cut. We also have a lot of beef ranchers in this area.

Have a great weekend.

I already gave the refrigerator to my local body man to keep his beer cold in his garage. I'm sure I will need a favor from him sometime soon. I may also have the range given away also to a good home.

Good morning fellow gurus,

It looks like a nice morning here. We had 1.25" of rain over the weekend which was welcome. About 40-50 miles south of us they had up to 8" of rain in places. Kind of like the big deluge on our flat land.

I purchased a new Kenmore Elite electric range and French door refrigerator last week and have got them installed. I like the water and ice in the door. They replaced some 40+ year old GEs in avocado green which by the way were still working except for the clock on the stove. I hope these last half as long.

My garden has produced an abundance of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and carrots for myself and lots of friends. I always plant about 3 dozen tomato plants. They are easy to give away. The buttercup and butternut squash are over producing this year also. I had some last night and it was good.

Have a great day and a greater week.

I wouldn't want to rub it in, but I am a Bison alum and am happy the way things turn out. NDSU has had a great run lately, but I also remember the lean years. I just wish Dallas would get out of the lean years and get back to the glory of Landry, Staubach, Dorsett and Golden Richards.

Good morning gurus. It is a beautiful day here today and for the next week or so we will have some summer. It is suppose to be in the low 90s. I was reading and I came across the following story and laughed out loud. Have a good weekend.

A senior citizen drove his brand new Corvette convertible out of the dealership. Taking off down the road, he floored it to 80 mph, enjoying the wind blowing through what little gray hair he had left. "Amazing," he thought as he flew down I-94, pushing the pedal even more. Looking in his rear view mirror, he saw a state trooper behind him, lights flashing and siren blaring. He floored it to 100 mp
h, then 110, then 120. Suddenly he thought, "What am I doing? I'm too old for this," and pulled over to await the trooper's arrival. Pulling in behind him, the trooper walked up to the Corvette, looked at his watch, and said, "Sir, my shift ends in 30 minutes. Today is Friday. If you can give me a reason for speeding that I've never heard before, I'll let you go."
The old gentleman paused. Then he said, "Years ago, my wife
ran off with a State trooper. I thought you were bringing her back."

"Have a good day, sir," replied the trooper.

Yes, I have always liked coconut oil. To me it tastes almost as good as buttered popcorn, especially if you use a bit more than called for. I think it may be a bit better for you than butter. Of course, you can always add some butter. Thanks for the idea on Tabasco, I like a little heat.

Looks good. I think I will order one. I just ordered some coconut oil from Bulk Apothecary at a good price.

Marcus,

That looks like a great popper. What made you decide on that particular machine? I've been looking at poppers also. Amazon has a good price on this popper.

Good morning,

Out here in western ND it is raining and about 59°. Doesn't look like much Vetting today. Wash clothes and do some crosswords and wait for the sunshine. It does help the garden grow and of course the grass. Got to have grass to justify the new mower. Hope you all had a good 4th. I was over to the neighbors for supper. They had 22 lbs of fresh salmon filets that they smoked and/or grilled. Very tasty.

Thanks Tommy, for the song and video. I haven't heard it in awhile. It should be played every morning on every radio in the USA. We seem to forget our lucky life in this great place and also all of those who served to give it to us.

Happy Saturday to all,

I wore a suit and tie 32 years when I was teaching every day. I just wasn't comfortable without it. Now they only come out at weddings and funerals. There has been a lot more of the latter lately.

Speaking of new mowers, I splurged and bought a new rider. It is a zero turn radius. I've always had a cheapo tractor before. This time I got a Deere Z425 with a 48" deck. I do mow quite a bit of ground, probably about an acre and a half. At least it seems like it when I have to walk and mow. I getting older and slower.

Here is a picture of it. No, she didn't come with it.

We finally got some sunshine today. We have had some rain almost everyday for the past 2 weeks. We got about 8.25" in that time period. It is suppose to rain again Monday- Wednesday.

I replaced the power antenna on my Vette today. It was fairly easy except for the grommet. That is a PIA coming out and going in. I also replace the rear stabilizer link bushings. They were shot. Old ones came out easy, but the new poly ones were a bear to get back in. Got rid of the occasional clunk I heard in the back.

Have a good weekend.

I just checked into a couple of Collector Car insurance companies and found that:

1) The car must be in a locked garage at all times when not in a car show or in route to a car show. It cannot sit out overnight in your driveway or carport.

2) You can drive it up to 2500 miles a year included pleasure but you cannot leave the car unattended at any time. You may not use it to run errands, go to the mall or any place it would be left unattended. These are their words.

I finally did something today. I put new KYB shocks on my Vette. It did make a difference. You could push in the old ones by hand.

I then went with my mechanic buddy to his mother's house and took down a big tree. It really was fairly easy. He has a JD Front end loader with a gin poll. Climb out to the end and wrap a chain around the tree. Cut it off and lower it down. He also has a semi with a 30' hay trailer he built to haul big bales. It has a hydraulic push off for the bales. It works good on the trees also. Haul to the dump and push off. I did a lot of supervising and enjoyed the refreshments afterwards.

Have a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend.

Good Morning,

It is cloudy, dreary and rainy here to day and is 52 degrees. In the past 3 days we have gotten about 1.20" of rain. It dried off enough yesterday afternoon for me to get the garden in. I put in 36 tomato plants, 12 pepper plants and 4 broccoli plants a long with several herb plants. I also added a row of carrots, radishes, kohlrabi, cucumbers, Bibb lettuce and some dill and parsley. I may add some buttercup squash later. I ran out of seeds. I know it is a lot for one person, but I share it with neighbors and friends. It is never hard to give away tomatoes and other produce.

I worked in a Standard Station the summers of my junior and senior years in HS and also the freshman and sophomore years in college during the 60s. Out here in western ND gas was always 35.9 for regular and 39.9 for ethyl. We always like to pump ethyl. In Fargo ND where I went to NDSU, gas was often down to 19 cents a gallon for regular. They had a lot of gas wars there. Yes, we did wear the striped Standard Oil uniforms, checked the oil, washed the windows and often checked the tires.

During those years I overhauled my 272 Y-block 1956 Ford (I put 312 heads and 4-barrel out of a 1956 Mercury on it with dual exhausts) and also a friend's 1960 Chevy 283. OF course, I had a shop grind the heads and bore the cylinders 10 over. I did all of the tear down and putting back together. Damn it is nice to remember the years when nothing seemed impossible. I wish I had that brash self-confidence these days.

I've had a good day. It started off with helping a friend deliver May baskets from the food pantry to the less fortunate. Then I went along with another friend to pickup a new windshield and a new computer for his body shop.

Later this afternoon I also brought home my other 3 toys (Firebird Formula, Firebird T/A, and the Z-28 Convertible) from winter storage. It is suppose to get warmer tomorrow and really nice toward the weekend. Damn life is good. Who would have every suspected a retired Math teacher could be having this much fun.

Cooler here today, a high of 69. Sunny and almost no wind, so it is very nice. I put the Altec splash guards on my car and I think they look good with the dark blue. Here is a picture. It was a complete bolt on with no drilling.

Here is a website for PEX. My plumber uses one piece fitting where the crimping ring is part of the fitting. You just slide the pipe in and crimp. He uses a power crimper that closes to a certain size and then releases. There are different head ends for different size tubing. He also uses red and blue colored tubing for hot and cold. Helps keep things straight.

It has been a long day. I just got things cleaned up. The plumbers arrived about 11am and we finished up by 5pm. We did take out time for dinner. I cooked a pork roast with baked potatoes and mixed vegies. They were happy and full. We replumbed everything from the water meter on. We used pex plastic with the power on clamp fittings. Sure goes fast.

By the way it reached 79 degrees today and I still couldn't go driving. There will be more warm days and the plumbing couldn't wait. Now for a good shower and some coffee.

It's going to be a busy day, but unfortunately not with the toys. My local plumber and his son are coming over to tear out the basement galvanized water pipes and replace them. They are starting to seep from old age. Just wearing out like me. The house was built about 65 years ago just like me.

It is fortunate that he is one of my best friends and neighbors. The price will be right. I have to force him to charge for labor and the parts are at cost. He, his wife and their four grown kids are all former students of mine. Teaching did have some lasting perks. By the way, my mechanic is also a great friend and former student. Damn that helps when I get stuck on something. He can build or fix anything. Even clean up my screw ups. The best part is that he loves to help people.

It is about 7:30 and it is 58 degrees. Suppose to get into the high 70s and maybe low 80s. It was 73 yesterday. Have a good weekend gurus.

Morning Gurus. I always like George Jones. In fact, I have a CD of his greatest hits in the Vette as I speak.

It is 59 degrees here right now at 9:15. It got to 68 degrees yesterday and I took an 80 mile cruise over to a neighboring town and picked up some groceries. It was nice to be out driving again. Today and for the weekend, it is suppose to be up into the 70s and maybe hit 80 by Sunday. Guess who will be out burning up gas.

Have a good weekend.

We had a light dusting of snow this morning. But it is 32 and should be gone soon. The old was mostly gone. We are to be in the 40s today and the 60s by tomorrow and the weekend. Is this what your Grandson would say?

I just pulled the trigger and ordered a set of black ones for my dark blue toy. I've been looking at them for a couple of weeks and Matthew's positive comments pushed me over the edge. Glad I have someone to blame. If it would just turn to summer, I would be out driving and not looking at Ebay.

That is a good looking floor. I've been thinking of redoing my living and dining room in wood also. I have a small woodshop, the tools and am a half decent wood worker but the cars have been calling me to the road as well as my just being lazy. I do take retirement seriously.

This morning I woke up to another 7" of fresh snow and 23 degrees. The stuff from last weekend isn't all gone. Although, the past few days it had been in the upper 30s and low 40s. We do need the moisture here in western ND and the farmers are smiling. It has kind of quit snowing for now but maybe more later today and tonight. My Brittany just looked out the window, turned around, sighed and went to sleep. Not a bad thought but I have to do my Sunday morning crosswords.

It's not much better here. It is about 20 this morning, but probably will get into the 40s today. The weather devils are talking more snow this weekend. One says it will be the last. I was thinking of sneaking out the Vette for a drive today. Maybe.

Just a little update from North Dakota. According to the weatherman we ended up with 12" of snow yesterday. It was wet and the temp did get into the 30s. However, this morning it was 6 above earlier and now it is 20 above. The streets are a mess. Everything is deep rough ice. No Vette outings this week.

I'm just about 100 miles south of the major impact at Williston. Although there is some impact here also. The edge of the Bakken seems to be on the northern half of my county. There are more straight wells going in here. They have not had very good luck on the horizontals around here.

The snow seems to have slowed down and now we have 8" of wet snow and the temp is up to 38.

Good morning all. It was 66 on Saturday and 63 yesterday. I was thinking about getting the rest of my cars out of storage. Then I remembered the weatherman talking about snow and colder weather. This morning I woke up to 4" of wet snow and more coming all the time. You can only see a couple of blocks. It was 27 at 7am and is now 25. The Blue Toy sits in the garage patiently awaiting the sunshine while I drive the 4-wheel drive pickup around. I hope your area is nicer.

Not really. I started on this trip about four years ago with a white 1990 Corvette. I traded that one off on the 1994. The rest of the cars I still have and each one gets a chance every day or so in the summer to enjoy me driving them. It is fun to be retired with nothing much to do but play and of course wrench a little. I also work and repair old 1930s radios and Lionel trains. Life is fun. I spent 32 years as a HS math teacher before retirement and did income taxes part time for 40 years.

Except for my avatar, I can't seem to upload any pictures directly from my computer. Do I have to first post them on a site like Photo bucket and then put in a link to them? Looks like I figured it out

I am a 64 year old retired car nut. I just purchased my 2nd Vette, a 1994 Dark Blue LT1 with a white GS stripe. It is a 6 speed with NOS, Hyper chip, muffler eliminator exhaust, GS style black wheels, lowered and 275x40x17 tires. So far it is a blast to drive. I also have a 1982 TranAm with a 350 and Edelbrock intake and Holley 4 barrel, 1995 Firebird Formula TTop and a 1995 Camaro Z28 convertible. Now if it would just warm up and turn nice here in ND, although it is supposed to be in the 50s the next couple of days.
