76 Nordic - Just let me know what parts you need.

I do have most of the plastic ducting that goes to the vents.

I do NOT have anything left of the heater core or heater box assy.

Of course I do have the specific items I listed above as I thought they are high value items for spares or replacements for an 84 owner.

I am parting out whats left of of my old 427 SBC out of my 84 Corvette Real Street class car.

This engine orginally came from Nyes Automotive... Dyno sheets show 601hp@6400RPM. I bought the car with this engine in it - sight unseen, made minor induction changes and raced it for a year with no problems. Car ran mid 10's@125 mph in the 1/4 mile on pump gas and 9.30's@146 mph on an 82N jet (about 200HP nitrous)on VP C12 racing gas. FYI this is a 3120lb stock suspension 84 Corvette. Best of 6.02@112mph to the 1/8th mile.

Parts are in very good condition unless noted otherwise.

Complete internally balanced rotating assembly. Will be glad to provide PN's to serious potential buyers.

Eagle 4340 forged Crankshaft. 4" stroke

Eagle 4340 H Beam Rods. ARP 8740 bolts. 6" length

JE 4.125 bore 1" compression height flat top pistons. 10.7 SCR with 72cc chamber cyl heads. 1/16. 1/16. 3/16 ring lands.

$1000.00 rotating assy - AS IS.

Full discoloure. The crank needs to be turned 10/10 to be perfect... it was never hurt but upon teardown inspection it was found to have a 2-3 tenths of taper in every journal... Typical Eagle on a bad day. I didn't build it orginally but aparantly that's what passes for good spec with some engine builders... I orginally planned on reusing this crank in my new 434 and while a 10/10 crank is fine for 99% of things - it's just not suitable at 1,100+HP.

I will be glad to fix the crank and supply the buyer with new King HP brgs and Perfect Circle file fit rings giving them a ready to assemble rotating assy. Guaranteed it will be 100% right when you get it from me.

$1500.00 rotating assy w/crank turned and new brgs/rings.

Dart Pro 1 230 Alum cyl heads. 72cc chamber. Box stock unported. Erson ClyAlloy .700 lift mech roller valve springs. Stainless steel 2.08 intake valves and 1.6 exhaust. ARP 7/16 studs and Comp Cams guide plates. Harland Sharp 7/16 1.5 ratio roller rockers. PRP stud Girdles. Erson/PBM 5/16 .080 wall psuhrods.

$1200.00 for heads and everything else in the top end.

Comp Cams PN 12-970-8 "312R" Solid roller camshaft.

312/3252.020
279.286@.050
.679/.645 lift w/1.5 rockers
108 lobe centers

Erson/PBM solid roller lifters. .842 dia .300 tall vertical link bars.

$250.00 for the Roller Cam and Roller Lifters.

Moroso PN 20195 oil pan. 8" deep clears 4.125 stroke. Includes Moroso dip stick kit, Melling M55HV oil pump and Moroso pickup tube.

$175.00 for the OP, DS, OP, PU.

Professional Products Hurricane Single Plane Intake. PN 5231. Box stock unported.

$125.00 for the intake manifold.

Any questions PM me.

Parts are located in Hampton GA. You pick up in person or pay shipping.
Thanks
Will

I assume this is the 84? the seats must come out... there are screws about where the seat belt latches are that hold the side covers in place.

there are a few screws around the edges of the console, inside and under the carpet (if so equipped).

The headlights are not hard to isolate. All their wiring goes out of the firewall above your left foot. The rest of that loom is for the dash and computer crap.

Just follow what comes off the IP to the old ECM area, and back... Same with the DIC... I assume you are running analog gauges? Then run fresh wire to them! that garbage was bad when new, it's downright evil now, so run new wire!

Yea it's the 84.

I found the screws by the floorboard near the seats... also the screws under the consol lid... Pretty sure I got all them but the SOB just dosen't want to budge and I don't want to tear it up... besides I think the builder can work around it so I'm just gonna leave it.

I noticed just quick tracing after I got the dash apart that the light switch harness goes into the big dash harness and all that shit goes across the car into the fuse box.... some of it goes thru the pannel at the firewall.

Looks like a nightmare to unwind and take apart. Plus there are some relays (maybe 2 or 3) that were right in the center behind the DIC in alittle plastic box... what are those for?

Yep I have all new Mechanical Autometer Gauges....

I am going to make a filler pannel for the DIC and the DIC switch pannel areas of the dash. Going to put gauges in each (Engine Vacuum, Trans Temp, Nitrous Pressure).

I already have a filler pannel where the Radio was that holds (2) gauges (Water Temp & Oil P).

I also already have a filler pannel below that one (where the factory climate Control stuff was) that holds my switch pannel for the Fan, Water Pump, Fuel Pump, Nitrous Arm, Nitrous Purge...

The only thing is all the key switch wiring is still hooked up as is the factory altenator wiring... so the car fires up with the factory key and I'd really like to keep that if I can... goes a long ways to saying "Real Street Car" .

BTW I hate electrical stuff.... took me months after I bought the car to finally get the nerve up to get rid of the MSD 6AL and MDS timing computer and then rewire it for the Mallory 685 ignition....

I have a few interior parts from 84 race car.

(2) Rear BOSE Speaker Boxes. Yes the Amplifiers are still in there. Sorry no idea if they work.

(1) Instrument/Gauge cluster. This worked fine as this car was a running and driving before it was made into a race car. Odomoter shows 101K miles.

(1) DIC. Drivers Information Center (warning lights). This is located on the right center upper part of the dash.

(1) Drivers infomation center switch pannel... I think thats what it is. Located right next to the info center in the left center upper part of the dash.

(1) ECM. 1984 CFI w/automatic trans. Again worked fine as the car was running and driving before it was chopped up.

(1) Bread Box. Nice condition no warping, no rips and no cracks.

I also have all the Heater/AC ducting behind the dash but not the condensor/heater core box itself. So if you need any of the plastic ducting, let me know before I toss it.

I offer this stuff is free if you pay shipping or pick it up.

I know it's not much but hopefully some member here or passing Corvette enthusist can use some of it to fix their 84 before I toss it.
Thanks
Will

Whoops! Almost forgot to update on the car itself.

Saturday I was able (with some help) to get the interior dissassembled and the car ready to go to the chassis shop which will be this weekend (15 Dec).

What a PITA. The dash is made up of 3-4 seperate peices and all that plastic is razor sharp. I am gutting this thing to get as much weight as I can out of it.

The main wiring harness behind the dash is HUGE... I really want to cut it up and get rid of everything but the headlights, turn signals and brake lights but that may be more electrical than I can figure out.

The center consol wouldn't come out no matter what I did and I just left it instead of breaking it.

The factory carpet is super heavy in these cars... it's backed by some type of heavy rubber. I may have to do something else with new lightweight carpet of some sort when it goes back together.

A guy is comming this week to remove the windshield as I need a new one anyway (cracked). The previous owner removed the heater/AC box but left all the ducting and left the defroster switch box/door assy in the middle of the dash. I already got rid of all the ducting but plan to get the defroster box/door once the glass is removed... it's really jammed back there behind the massive alum dash brace/crash bar.

Also the rear speaker boxes are lined with that rubber mat... any idea how to pull it out? I have managed to cut the front half out but the rear half is not budging... looks like it was preformed peice and dropped in before that top pannel was riveted on.

Wanted to show you guys some progress on my new engine.

This is a brand new Howards Track Smart 3. 4340 Forged and 100% USA mfgr'd at Callis. I was able to get a great deal on this crank as my sales rep at CP sold me this crank for $680 on a "Cyber Monday" deal.

This crank checked out and mic'd 100% perfect. 2.4480 on the mains and 2.0990 on the rods. Dead straight on every journal w/less than .0001 taper.

Resized Image

I also want to show you the my new intake manifold and the plenum work I did to it.

Here it is set up on the Vertical Mill getting ready to have the plenum cut open with a 1" end mill.

Resized Image

Here is a direct over head shot of the finished plenum after I cut it on the mill and radiused the runner entry's.

Resized Image

Here is an angle shot looking down into the runners where you can see the crosssectional taper from the plenum roof to the runner roof.

Resized Image

BTW I removed .400 of material out of that plenum (.400 in all directions). All in all this work too about 6 hrs to do and I did not touch the runners (porting) past just thinning out the divider wings that extend into the plenum. If I get more time to go down therre and work before the intake goes on the engine I will fully port it.. if not it will go on as is. I'm sorry I didn't take more pics as I went along but this was never meant to be a "how to" thread anyway and operating equipment like this takes some level of concentration not ruin a $400 intake.

I'll let you guys in on the parts and new engine combination.

434 cubic inches.
4.155" bore X 4" stroke.
5.850 Rod length.
13.1 SCR

Dart Little M Sportsman block.
Howards Track Smart 3 forged 4340 cranshaft.
K1 Technologies billet steel 4340 rods.
Diamond nitrous pistons, gas ported, 9cc dome.
Perfect Circle Fire Power rings. .043, 1/16, 3/16
King HP series brgs.
Titan Sportsman oil pump.
Kevko box style drag racing oil pan.

QFT Q Series 950 carburator
Edelbrock 2892 Super Victor 2 intake manifold.
Monty Smith Perf nitrous plate kit (380hp).

Speier Racing Heads VFactor Profiler v2.70PF 250cc.

You can see here, they are bad SOB's for 23* SBC.

http://www.vfactorracingheads.com/vfactor-23ordm-sbc.html

Jesel Shaft Mount Rocker Arms 1.7 ratio.
Trend 3/8" .165 wall pushrods.
Morel .903 roller lifters w/pressure fed axles.
Comp Cams 6100 Belt Drive

Mike Jones Camshaft custom ground to my specs.
332/348 @ .020
282/294 @ .050
.472/.465 lobe lift
.802/.790 lift w/ 1.7
113 LSA 108 ICL

GZ Motor Sports Super Pro Vacuum Pump.
Stahl Headers 2" primary tubes into 3.5" collector.
Schonfield 3.5" inlet/outlet bullet mufflers.
Exhaust will be made by me from some 3.5" mandrel bends.

At this point everything is set in stone (ordered and most is already here or being mfgr'd infact) except the rocker arms. The cyl head supplier may be able to get me a better deal on some rockers from LGM Engineering and they are 1.65 ratio which will lower the lift on the cam to .770ish but that really depends on how much money they save me over the Jesel's once my heads are ready.

This motor should rock. The real hold back will be the 4150 carburator. We are still looking to make just over 700HP on motor. My Engine Analyzer shows a good bit more power than that but I don't want to get excited about a computer program.... Peak power should come in right at 7500 rpm.

I hope you guys are learning something from all this.
Will

There is nothing wrong with them per say... they are actually very nice.

They won't stand any nitrous and are HP limited normally aspirated to about 450 because of the thin deck.

The 1.2, 1.5, 3mm ring package is great for maximizing hp in limited induction type engines but they are fairly expensive.

My thoughts on runtime vs brg damage... if its hurt its hurt and any runtime is going to cause more damage, but you need to determine what the problem is and that entails runtime for troubleshooting.

You got to do what you got to do here. If the noise doesn't sound like a rod is going to fly out and the oil doesn't have metalflake in it, I personally would screw a mech gauge in it and drive it to see what the oil pressure does.

Guys pressurizing the oiling system via an upstream oil port are doing better than nothing for the topend but they are actually pushing oil out of the pump....

What engine? What year?

The SBC has 2 different front covers, that take 2 different thickness front seals between the timing cover and oil pan.

Can't comment on much, but I read that it takes a lot of cranking on the ls to bring oil up to the heads and is not the preferred method at all. Recommended to use a priming tool. So I don't know if the observation of limited oil through the rockers is a good indication of pressure.

No other way to prime a wet sump LSX. Oil pump is driven off the nose/front of the crankshaft.

I would just remove the factory gauge sendor and put the mech gauge in that oil port... fire it up and check for pressure.

As far as the oil band. The oil band is the area of the lifter where it's turned down to smaller diamater to allow oil to pass by to the next lifter and get to the oil hole in the lifter... that area has to intersect the oil galley in lifter bore of the block. If the oil band on the lifter is too high (or too low) oil won't flow to tall the lifters and top end properly.

That is all a product of where the oil band is located on the lifter and the Base Circle on the camsahft - which determines how high or low the lifter rides in the lifter bore.

Are your lifters the riveted link bar or do they re-use the factory plastic locators?

Anything can happen... like I said it's unlikely that the oil pump just died but it could have.... the cam and head swap could have contributed as well.

Guys I got the engine to dads shop and got it completely apart.

Couple of changes.

The crank is so far out of spec, I'm going to replace it.

The cyl heads have some guide wear and I 'm going to go with different heads... the new ones are slightly better.

Was the engine hurt before you changed the cam and lifters?

Does it still have non adjustable rocker arms?

Did you plot the rocker geometry?

Oil pump failure in an otherwise solid bottom end is unlikely.

I would check the stuff you changed. The oil band on the Morel lifters and make sure its lined proproperly with the oil galley in the lifter bore... some of those Morel lifters are .300 taller for use with small base circle cams and that will play hell with all kinds of stuff on a regular bs cam. Cam brgs getting chewed up during cam removal and installation is another big possible problem.

On the first kit... It dosent say what ring package they use... if its 1/16 rings then thats a good kit. If it has 5/64 rings find something else...

I have same Scat 4340 forged rods and crank in the engine I built for 93ragtop.... he ran 11.18@124mph first time out. Makes 462RWHP thru an automatic trans so you can build a pretty decent engine with the stuff.

All I will say about Flatlander is they rarely have anything in stock, so expect to wait a hot min for your parts to ship.

Got the car apart this weekend.

Motor is down to the short block and looks great... espc considering it wasn't built as a Nitrous engine and I have been spraying the dog piss out of it all season. Just goes to show that good tune ups will run on everything and hurt nothing.

Here's a few pics:

Short block

Resized Image

I know everybody likes to see the "hardware"... really simple stuff/junk. Harland Sharp stud mount rockers and PRP stud girdles.

Resized Image

Engine out of the car and the long block on the stand.

You can see the TH350 and PTC converter sitting on the floor. BTW I used the Valvoline Dextron VI synthetic fluid in it all season... 80+passes and it looked and smelled new.

Resized Image

I will take some pics of the new CM 8.50 certified cage once I get the car back from my chassis builder Dominic at DC Performance. Dropping the car off to him Dec 14 and get it back Jan 15.

Just sent a $1700 check to Stahl Headers... 2" primary tubes with a 3.5" collector. I know they will be beautiful peices when I get them.

Most of the important stuff is paid for but I still got a few more parts checks to write.

I will also take some pics of the engine as it goes back together in it's new and improved state. Taking it to dads shop in Ga on Saturday... It's going to be a mad scramble for me and my brother on weekends from Thanksgiving till Jan to get it built, tested on the dyno and then installed back in the car in time to test over the Presidents day holiday but thats my goal.

After looking through SRP and a few other vendors I find very few 2618 choices. CP offers a nice piece as does Racetec. Icon (never heard of them) also makes one within spec for my setup.

Race Tec is owned by Wayne Brooks the former owner of JE Pistons.

ICON Pistons is the re-named Forged line from Keith Black.

There are lots of pistons out there that will work fine - you just need to have TEA or whoever does the heads make a small adjustment on the cumbustion chamber when they do the heads....

Probe's SRS pistons are 2618 alloy...

Diamond has a shelf piston that will also work...

JE has a shelf piston that will work.

The Wiseco Pro Tru line has 3 dished piston options for the 400.

As far as the strength of the Compstar line of rods and cranks for what your doing - I wouldn't worry about it...

On a forced induction engine the tune up is more important than the "quality" of the parts inside. Most of the 4340 forged imported cranks and rods are plenty strong.

IMO that is a good thing.

2-3yrs ago I busted 3 out of 4 Neapco Brute Force U-Joints in the halfshafts on my 92... The Brute Force U-Joints just broke the ends off. When they broke it bashed up an outer stub axle and trashed both halfshafts as well....

That was an expensive night and they were brand new. I only made 3 trips to the track and had driven them less than 1500 street miles.

The 92 is a peice of cake compared to my 84 (Race Car) on U-Joints.

It's too long of a story to give the low down on what I have trashed with both of these cars thou... suffice to say that I have run them and broken them all. I prefer the solid non-greasable type from:

1) SPICER
2) MOOG

Glad to see you are getting yours back together.

I'll post pics when I get the car back from the Chassis shop.... Should be interesting getting all the stock interior back in the car around the new 10pt cage.

As for engine details.

I'm re-using the Dart Little M Block, Eagle 4340 4" stroke crankshaft and QFT 950 carb I currently have.

The Dart 230 Pro 1 cyl heads are going to Rons Porting Service for his 248cc CNC package.

Diamond nitrous pistons 4.155 bore
Perfect Circle Firepower rings
K1 Technologies billet rods 5.850 length
Kevko box style oil pan (should fit if I remove those 2 little front crossmember brackets)
Titan Engineering billet alum oil pump
Xcelledyne belt drive
.903 Morel roller lifters
Edelbrock 2892 Super Victor 2 intake manifold.

Of course a new roller camshaft and new rest of the valve train... I'm going to stay with stud mounted rockers and stainless steel valves because of cost... this is going to limit me to about 7800-8200RPM.

The engine will be a 434 cubic inch when I'm done. Shooting for 12.8-13.1 compression ratio. Even thou this iteration will be a pure nitrous engine, I'll be very disappointed if it dosen't break 700HP on motor... That along with the additional 300-350hp of nitrous and I should be a real threat to win next season.

Well guys I ran the seasons last MPC Real Street race last weekend.

All in all it has been a great time for me and Elise. She has learned so much about drag racing and really is a big help wiith maintaining/racing the car.

I finished in 7th place overall this season in the points. Not bad for my first year in the class.

In cass legal trim the 84 ran a best pass of 6.02@113mph in the 1/8th mile and had a best 60ft of 1.246. Not bad for a pump gas street engine wth OTB unported cyl heads in a 3100lb car with stock suspension.

The improvement phase begins.

I have secured a chassis shop to do a certified 8.50 10pt Chromoly cage. I'll be good to run the 1/4 mile (without shutting off early) next season. Got to get the interior, engine and tranny out to drop the car off with him by Dec 14... cage will be done 3 weeks later.

Me and my buddy Rich are going to pull the engine and tranny this weekend... I also hope to have the top end apart the same day.

Got big plans for the engine too....

Well, I just got home from the exhaust shop after having the factory mufflers re-installed. I quickly made a couple observations which I'll note below. First off, I'd like to applaud Maryland Muffler in Millersville, MD for performing a great job of installation. The job was done both qucikly and for a reasonable amount of money; $250. I did supply all the parts but they removed the entire system and re-fitted all the pieces to ensure its integrity. I wanted a solid system and they provided that.

However, the factory mufflers in conjunction with the factory resonator is too quiet in my opinion. It still sounds pretty good from behind the car but in the cockpit I can barely hear anything. Maybe I just need to get accustomed to it, as I have been blasted by the other system for so long. My wife and mother will love it for sure! I think I have lost a couple punches on my "Man Card" for this muffler swap.

Although.... I hate to admit it, I think the square box tips of the factory LT1 mufflers really look like they belong hanging from that bumper compared to the dual tip Magnaflows I had before.

I'll continue to drive it this way for a while to see how I like it, but will be saving my coin for a Corsa system perhaps in the fall or next spring.

Overall I'm happy with the change! It's solid and you can still tell there is something non-factory under the hood.

Glad you got it fixed.

No loss of man card for a fast and quiet car... thats called a sleeper man.

I like to give props for that kind of stuff.

Give yourself some time to adjust to the sound.

The factory LTX systems will not hurt performance on any normally aspriated street engine... I proved that with 93 ragtops car. We even swapped his car to a Magnaflow axle back and it didnt pick up anything except noise.

The Corsa is great for looks and quality... however once you put a pretty serious engine infront of a Corsa, it gets VERY LOUD under acceleration. It can also be really loud at idle depenging on engine speed. My 92 is just obnoxious in this reguard. I will give credit where its due thou. My 92 is totally quiet inside at hwy speeds. We drove it to Carlisle a few yrs ago and even enjoyed the ride.

Just my opinion but stock or Corsa exhaust are the only way to go with a modified C4.

How is everything Guru's?

I have spent until last night rewiring the ignition and nitrous systems on my race car (the 84).

I have my new Leash Electronics progressive nitrous controller installed and a new Mallory 685 ignition box.... I built a pannel/board out of a scrap peice of lexan putting everything down on the passenger side kick pannel.

Sure cleans up the electronics part of the car and much better functionality with the timing retard being integrated into one box over the seperate 6AL and Timing Computer boxes from MSD I had on it.

I installed my Turbo Action Cheetah SCS shifter in the car as well.

Got another $1200 to win race on Saturday.

I agree with C409. The green color on the ground strap is fuel.

Coolant in the combustion process will blast a spark plug completely clean... almost brand new looking. If there is enough antifreeze in the combustion process it will kill a plug and leave an oily, sweet smelling, slippery film on it.

From what I can see in the pics. The first one looks like it has some minor oil burn on it... definatly has some pre-ignition/detonation specks on it.

The second one has a few pre-ignition/detonation specks.

The plugs heat range is a little too hot for what your doing.... the color change on the ground strap should be in the center of the bend and yours is towards the plug case/body of the bend.... you can also see the "heat" on the threads of the plug case/body go up 4-5 threads and it should only go up 3 threads.

You could have too much overall timing in the engine or just too agressive timing map in the computer which could be contributing to what the plugs are showing.

Could be a combination of timing curve and oil in the combustion leading to what I see.

I can't tell you anything about the AF mixture because you can't see the correct part of the plug in your pics and I can see it's been idled around by the black ring on the plug case/body... idling an engine after a WOT pull kills any read you can get (in the context of AF ratio).

First thing I'd do is remove any PVC system going to the intake system and vent it to the atmosphere or better yet a catch can where you can monitor how much blow by your getting.

Second thing is I'd drop the plug heat range by 1.

Take it out and dog it a bit. Pull the plugs and see if your still getting those black specks on them.... if you are then take some timing out.

Interesting, Will

Do you think the windage tray is broken of your 92?

No the little plastic fuel sump/baffel was there when I put the Warboro 255LPH pump in the car back in 2006.

Not sure why my 92 is so bad about cutting out when the fuel level is less than 1/2 tank.... One day I'll get a plastic gear lube bottle or something and build a sump for it.

I have a much smaller 5 gallon fuel cell in my 84 (which is a drag car). It's mounted in stock location under the decklid with the fuel cap right under the factory fuel door.

The mounting system I used on mine would be similar to what you need to mount one of those 22 gallon RCI Cells.

Here are a pic of how my stuff is mounted.

For whatever reason, some C4's are bad about the fuel slosh and some are not.

My 92 is terrible.... if I have less than 1/2 a tank it will cut out on launch at the drag strip... it's the same in hard corners.

I'd suggest you try to make an internal fuel sump of some kind first.... lots of people have used plastic liter bottles around the fuel pump to solve this problem.... I just have never got around to it on my 92.

I hate to link anybody to the SOB's that run CF but the old posters there did have some good knowlege. Here is a thread that has some links to pics (post #20 and #21) and a write up (post #11) of how people use a liter plastic bottle around the pump to make a bigger fuel sump.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-te ... ers-on-hard-throttle.html

Another option. The way the stock tank is shaped it's perfect for one of those weld on fuel pick up sumps like Competition Engineering mfgrs.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/cee ... Lrh_tTtjrgCFWIV7AodQBAALQ

This would make running an external pump easy and it's inexpensive.

Your other option would be a fuel cell. 22 gallon is what we run in our late models. These have a rubber bladder, plastic outer shell with a 2 pc metal can to mount them. -8AN pick up tube. Very easy to make up a mounting system (2 bars across the impact sub frame is how I have one mounted on my 84 drag car) in the back of a C4 Corvette. Even with fabricating the mounting bars you'd be about $300-$350 turn key.

Pretty nice PIC of my car at launch taken by one of the photography guys at the event.

http://tmkphoto.com/site/galleries/75 ... -ya-brung-6162013/page/26

You can see also Elsie behind the car taking the video I posted above...

She is a big help getting the car loaded/unloaded, setting up the pit area, she directs me in the water box and out into groove during staging.

Then she brakes out the camera and takes video so I can analyze the launches and decide what to do to the shocks, tire pressure or engine tune up.

She also assist me with maintaining the car when adjusting the valves and when setting the fuel pressure on the nitrous side.

I rarely mention her contribution to the effort and you can bet this stuff would way more difficult without her help.

It's tough running against these guys. This is my first year back in real racing full time and I knew comming in that I was down on HP compared to most of these guys. I kinda thought I'd be a better driver but this .400 Pro Tree has been kicking my ass and it's taking a while to get my brain adjusted to seeing all 3 yellow's go at the same time...

We typically have 8-10 cars in the feild. It would be nice to have a full 16 car ladder. That would help me out with maybe not having to run the number 2 or 3 qualifier in the first round every race....

But you just never know what will happen in racing. In second round qualifying the fastest car in the class spun and I was able to beat him. That could happen any time in eliminations.... in fact it did happen in first round this week but I was too slow on the tree and my car spun a little as well, so I just wasn't able to take advantage.

For what I have in the car I am very happy. It would be nice to get it to run 5's all the time in it's current state. I really think the new progressive NO2 controller is going to get me there. The new rear shocks have been a god send... just being able to keep the car from unloading the rear end this week helped me run the fastest the car has ever gone on this tune up.

I have some plans for the car next year. As long as things keep going like they have been and I don't damage something REAL expensive I'll be able to upgrade the engine and the cage for next season.

I like racing this class. Everybody is super nice, the fans love seeing regular looking street cars run so fast and even loosing to a way faster car in the first round is better than bracket racing where I can loose to a way slower car....

Thanks for the support guys. Next race is July 20.

We had another race today. Since this was a Saturday race only 2 rounds of qualifying to try and sort out my new Koni Double adjustable rear shocks.

I started out with the rebound full tight (at 2 sweeps) and the compression to 10 clicks in (12 clicks total). 16psi in the slicks.

First round I ran the left lane. The car spun the tires hard immediately.... I stayed in the gas the car eventually hooked and ran OK.

1.355 - 60ft
3.963 - 330ft
6.155 - 1/8th mile
111.94 mph

Seemed like the car never reacted or did anything but spin, so I decided to soften up the rear shock compression and drop some air pressure.... I dropped my tire pressure to 14psi and dropped the shock compression -3 clicks (to 7 clicks). Left the rebound alone.

Second round I had to run the right lane. The car left really good. The pass was clean putting me 7th on the field again. BTW this was a new personal best for the car at this track and I managed to cut a light on and out run the baddest car in the class...

1.278 - 60ft
3.839 - 330ft
6.029 - 1/8th mile
112.05 mph

Cutting that light and beating the Mustang in qualifying, I was feeling pretty good about my chances in eliminations.... but I got put in the left lane and the car spun the tires again... not as bad as in qualifying and I actually had the lead until the other guy trucked around me at the 200ft mark and flat left me for dead.

1.314 - 60ft
3.912 - 330ft
6.103 - 1/8th mile
112.05 mph

Next race is July 20something.... I plan to have my new progressive NO2 controller installed, air shifter installed and a bigger pill in the plate kit.

That is a very nice chain set. I use one in my LT1 and try to use it in every LTX or late model hyd roller SBC I build... if the customer will spend the $$$ of course.

I cant remember having any interference problems on anything but a few LTX timimg covers. Not much grinding to get those to clear.

L98 and Vortec L31 based engines have been GTG with that chain.

Got video of first round eliminations for you guys. You can see how hard my car spun the tires.

My brother just scored a set of Koni double adjustable shocks for me... They should be a fix for the rebound problem on the rear suspension.

He also scored a Turbo Action shifter with automatic air shift capability (1st to 2nd gear).... I occasionally get the car in the limiter on the 1-2 shift (espc when it spins) so this will be a big help.

After the next race I'm going to try and buy a progressive controller for the nitrous to smooth out the initial hit off the line. That should make the car leave easier and allow me to run a bigger dose of nitrous down track....

Also while checking over everything today I found an inner U Joint strap (right side) had been stretched out.... So I dug in my parts bin and put a good one on it. Man, this car is a handful on the maintenance front.... only 10-12 passes on these joints, straps and bolts.

Unfortunatly the heat was worse today than yesterday....

The car was very consistant - Running 6.06@112 in the 2nd and 3rd rounds of qualification. 1.28 60fts on both.

That put me number 7 qualifyer on the ladder and with 10 cars in the field, I had to run the number 3 qualifyer first round... which worked out about like you would expect.

First round eliminations the track got slick after the sun went down and I spun the tires hard... not that it would have mattered as he ran 5.56@124mph.. I slowed to 6.15@112mph with a terrible 1.41 60ft. I cut a horrible light as well... I really need some more seat time on the .400 Pro Tree.

It sucks to loose first round but with all the breakage I have had just testing I am really happy the car ran good. We qualified well and at the end of the day I was able to drive it up on the trailer. I knew comming in that I would be one of the slower cars.... these other guys have years woring on their combinations and most of the cars FAR outclass mine in its current state. With a little more work on the car and the driver things can only get better.

The rest of the competitors were really nice as was the promoter.

Next race is in 2 weeks. Will try and represent the Corvette community a little better next race.

Made it thru 1st round qualifying.

1.289 60ft
3.875 330ft
6.054 1/8 mile
112.61 mph

2 more rounds of qualifying and eliminations tomorrow.

Today the outside temp was in the 90' and the DA was 3000 ft so no chance of a real fast pass.... still considering the heat, the car ran well and I'm just happy be able to come back and run for the $$$$ tomorrow.

I know the day is almost over but, I got the 84 out today and took it for a drive to warm up the gear oil and other stuff. People look at you funny when you drive this thing around on the street.... Must be the shiney rimz.

Gave it a wash to get as much of the rubber from last weekend off the quarter pannels.

Checked all the half shafts and u-joints... everything still good. Hoping it stays that way.

Weighed the nitrous bottles and one is half empty... in only 5 passes... will have to get it filled next week before the big race.

I think tomorrow I will adjust the valves and run a compression check just for GP.

You can buy replacements at the parts house.

I know that my Autozone has replacement fusible links over by the battery cables and terminals.

Alternativly you could just wire in a fuse holder bypassing the link.

Elsie got me that same black, 3 drawer cart with the locking lid from HF for X-Mas this year.... Dare I say I am impressed with the "quality"??

I know, I know... such words of praise are NOT often used to describe HF tools but I honestly think this cart deserves it.... LOL.

At any rate it is darn nice for only $99.00 and works great in the home garage and mine came with rubber drawer/tool protectors installed already.

Without the camshaft specs, size of the cyl heads and compression ratio no one here can tell you if the Fuel Injection is going to hold it back or not.

I can tell there that there are Fuel Injection systems that are far superior to carbs in driveability and on most stuff (ie STREET CARS) Fuel Injection is capable of making identical peak HP.

Unless your building some kind of budget racing car, or restoring/hot rodding an old car, using a carb is taking one giant step backwards.

I use Spec. Have had good luck with them.

Had a Stage 3 in my 92 from 2005 to 2007 and put 25K miles on it... Stock engine with a 150 shot and drag raced every weekend. Perfect when I pulled it out and I still keep it for a back up.

Current Stage 3 has about 12K miles on it behing my 383. Well over 75 passes at the track.

Only failure I have had with Spec was a TOB where the collar cracked in blackharleymans 96 with the 383 I built.... it was a Stage 2+ and he had about 25K miles on it.... when we swapped that engine into his Grand Sport last year Spec did him right with a deal on a new clutch.

Very nice, Will. Ever consider manufacturing those spools for others?

Really with only a manual Bridgeport and Lathe there is way too much work for it to be profitable at all... and then there is such a limited market. Not many people have the kind of power to need this and those that do, mostly go the smart route and dump the IRS/convert to a straight rear end....

There are a number of differences in a regular D44 and the Corvette/Viper D44HD that need to be corrected for the D44 spool to fit in the D44HD housing.

You have to narrow the spool up and turn the ends down (where the carrier brgs press on)

Fabricate a spacer for inbetween the stub axles. This is so that they press against it like they do the cross pin shaft in the stock posi.

Then you need to drill and tap (2) 5/16 holes to retain the stub axles. This is so they can't pull out of the side rear end in a hard turn.

Counter bore a flat spot/recess on the stub axles for the "retaining bolts" to engage.

Machine the (2) 5/16 bolts the correct length to engage the stub axles....

I'd be glad to give anyone that wants to know how we built this the measurements and instructions - but as far as trying to manufacture them for re-sale.... No.

Testing out the the new D44HD Spool

Went to Mason Dixon Dragway today to test out my newly fabricated D44HD Spool and 3.90 gear.... The new rear end works great. Car drives like a dream and no more worries about exploding the posi comming out of the burn out box.... My brother did a top notch job on converting this spool this for me.

Also testing my newly rebuilt TH350 and it likewise is working flawless.

I worked my way up to these 2 full 1/8th mile passes.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/lyqzpynsp7ip663/IMG_0849.MOV?m

https://www.dropbox.com/s/39ggn9b1qok5yw9/IMG_0850.MOV?m

1.35 60ft and 6.18@109mph to the 1/8th mile was my best pass today... 1.37 and 6.20@109 was the other full on pass.

DA was about +700ft and the track folks said that was the best they had seen in a long time, as Mason Dixon is practically on a mountain.

As you can see I ran to the 1/8th mile and coasted for the rest of the 1/4 mile to a 10.15 and 10.25.... there is a good reason for this...

After my first nitrous pass today, I was asked to shut the car down early to keep the NHRA tech people happy because it busted off a 9.90 first pass (and I was coasting from the 1000ft mark).... No big deal to me since my class runs 1/8th mile at 75-80 and I know the car is not legal (yet) to be running that fast.

I made a number of other "work up" passes just trying to get a feel for the car... making sure the spool was going to drive good and nothing crazy was going to happen.

A few things I need more work on.

(1) Rear shocks. I need new ones and they need to be high dollar ones.... You can see the car "porpoise" as it bounces the front tires off the ground 3 times before the 60ft.... this is because I extended the rear bump stops and the car is hitting them so hard it's unloading the rear end (shock rebound is unable to control the rear end) and then the car is spinning the tires, then hooking, hitting the snubber again, unloading the tires, exct...

(2) My nitrous tune up... I had full bottle pressure today (my bottle heaters are working perfectly) and the car was quite a bit slower (even thou I had better 60fts today) than my initial Winter Test Session in GA. MPH was down and thats a loss of HP.... Maybe it's just the DA difference but time will tell once we get to make some passes (without breaking) on a track not located on a mountain....

(3) Safety. I need to get the car legal for how fast it is so I can run the 1/4 mile flat out if I want to.

June 1st is my first Real Street class race at 75-80 Dragway (thankfully they got rained out last week so I didn't miss the first race). Will let you guys know how we do.

Yep, I didn't know MOOG made them either. Compared them at the counter to Neapco and the Advance Auto house brand... MOOG was definatly the nicest of the bunch and USA whereas the others were made in China.

I just put all new Spicers in the half shafts and IMO they are top of the heap but I had to order and wait for them....

These MOOGs seem like a good alternative if you just want to go to the store and buy u joints.

Hopefully weather will be nice for test and tune Saturday.... So far so good... They did great on a little street drive this afternoon.....

BTW definatly can tell there is a spool in the rearend when turning with the slicks on it.
