In my opinion, it is nothing more than building invisible bridges if we start connecting dots that are not factual.

I will say, its a difficult subject matter.... but, a lot of people do not understand that there is a big group of illegal immigrants that have a tax id number and pay into our Federal income just as anybody does, which includes social security and medicare. Thus, to say they don't deserve a single dollar considering they paid in hundreds of millions might be a bit harsh. This doesn't even include the local/state taxes they paid via income tax and sales tax and property taxes.

But, I concede, I do not know the bottom dollar on cost, but I don't think anybody else does either, therefore, its impossible for myself to come to a conclusion on the matter without all of the facts. The below is what one pundit says on the subject.

Are illegal immigrants a net drain on the system?
Although certain news programs and partisan research institutes would like you to believe otherwise, there is no simple answer to this question. At the federal level, it appears that undocumented immigrants pay in slightly more than they take out. Figures vary greatly at the state and local levels. Areas with higher concentrations of undocumented immigrants, for example, spend more educating and providing emergency healthcare to undocumented immigrants than areas with lower concentrations.

But this is not because undocumented immigrants are out to evade taxes and milk the system —as we learned above, most pay sales, property, and income taxes automatically and are ineligible for the vast majority of social services. Rather, the reason undocumented immigrants may take out more than they contribute has mostly to do with their status as low wage earners.

Even if they use the same amount of public services as wealthier households, low-income households (be they made up of citizens or immigrants) are generally a net drain on public finances because our regressive system requires them to pay less income tax and by virtue of having less purchasing power, they pay less sales and property tax.

Obama said his healthcare plan would not cover illegal aliens – twice. Wilson said “You lie!” to the outrage of many, and for which he was later censured by Pelosi & Co.

Well, it turns out Wilson was right, and we didn’t even have to wait for the full rollout of ObamaCare in 2014 to see it.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced on Tuesday that it has awarded $28.8 million to 67 community health centers with funds from the Obamacare health reform law. But as part of that sum, CNS reports that ”approximately $8.5 million will be used by 25 New Access Point awardees to target services to migrant and seasonal farm workers,” and an HHS official said:

“grant recipients will not check the immigration status of people seeking services. ‘Health centers do not, as a matter of routine practice, ask about or collect data on citizenship or other matters not related to the treatment needs of the patients seeking health services at the center,’ Further, the grant recipients are ‘required to serve all residents’ who walk through their doors”.

So say it again, Joe Wilson: Obama lied. Since “at least” 25% of these “migrant” agricultural workers are illegal aliens, according to the Pew Hispanic Center, that means it will be guaranteed that tens of thousands of illegal aliens will be covered under ObamaCare.

Let me get this straight....we have a trillion dollar healthcare program, of which 28.8 million is going to 67 community health centers, of that, 8.5 million dollars is being utilized for services to migrant and seasonal farm workers of which approx. 25% are labeled as Illegal immigrants, therefore, approxmiately 2.1 million dollars might be utilized to assist illegal workers because the community health centers as policy do not, nor have they ever checked or collected information on citizenship.

This is a Trillion dollar healthcare plan and this is what you want to talk about ? 2.1 million which is what ?... a tiny fraction of a single percent.

My question.... does it say in the plan that this money is to go specifically towards illegal immigrants or non-citizens ? This is some remote loophole in the system that accounts for .0001% of the plan.... silly stuff guys. I'm not a fan of Obamacare, but my god, if you're going to attack the program or try to justify Wilson's classless blurt, find something real. And I doubt if Obama is even aware that somehow .0001% of his trillion dollar program has somehow slipped to what could be potentially illegal immigrants.

hi, I didn't mean to ignore you, the motor isn't a purchase build from lingenfelter (as a side note though thats a good idea, I think next time I will just have someone build it for me...), but you say yours came with 26/lb injectors? if I use the 36lbs and later decide to mod the car further I can, like say new exhaust (as I currenlty have stock manifolds on there) or pull out the 383 and put in a 400.

- hmm... there isn't a way of getting out of tuning the motor is there? or is that something I should do anyways? if it is then I should just keep the 36's and tune it for them?

thanks again guys!

No, I wasn't saying your motor or my motor was built by Lingenfelter. What I was saying, is that they are an example of what a Professional Builder would use for an injector on the exact combination you have built, which is 26lbs.... thus I believe that is probably the most appropriate size for your combination. Ford SVO's flow a bit higher than their # would indicate due to where they rate them (I think my 24lbers flowed around 25.8 @ 50 psi) Thus, I was able to utilize them without issue.

Its up to you what injector you use, just make sure you convey this information to your chip tuner.

Welcome to the guru Tony !

I ran an identical set-up for many years.... countless passes and somewhere around 50,000 street miles, all with 24lb Ford svo injectors. You can probably run 36lb injectors no problem, but they're not necessary. As a note, Lingenfelter Performance Engineering, when they sold your motor as a crate motor, provided 26 lb Bosch injectors with each motor. (About equal to 24lb ford svo's)

Considering those injectors, I recommend you get a tuner.... it will more than likely run very rich. Mseven here on this forum has been helping me with my current set-up... I recommend him.

Your combination is a hoot ! Great all-around street/strip motor.... friendly street manners coupled with respectable performance, a bucketload of mid-range torque and throttle response. Have fun with it !

Yes, also running a tranny cooler installed to the front of the radiator. I think it helps considering I have always gotten great transmission life versus most others, but not sure.

Up to now, I have always run the stock fans, but I think its time I upgraded my air puller fan.

But, I have never studied the issue, but I know many of you have. What is your recommendation ? Bear in mind, I have an aftermarket 3 core radiator plus a 6500 rpm 436 sbc that will be raced hard starting next season, therefore I believe I need more cooling capability than that of a 350 or 383.

Dual or single fan ? What is the cfm ? Amp draw ? What should I take into account to make it fit ? Do you have a part # ?

Does anybody know at what amp draw does it start to tax the battery/alternator ?

Road-course racers ! please feel free to chime in... I figure if anybody has figured out how to adequately cool a high performance motor, its you guys.

Thanks for any insight on the matter !

Its the first time I have had something north of a 2 car garage. In Ohio, I had a 2.5 car garage and that was nice... a lot of space to work on the car, but this new garage situation is a special treat, hence, why I am acting like a kid on Christmas morning. I could actually garage 7 cars....that is, if I had 7 cars. First "real" ManCave I've had.

When we moved.... I almost passed out from heat stroke. It was 108 degrees outside, but I was in the truck moving things from the front to the back for easier access to them.... and all of the sudden I just got dizzy and confused. In the back of that truck it was more like 115 or maybe even more, not sure.

My wife said my whole face and arms were beet red. I got out and hydrated up for an hour in the A/C.... it crept it up on me and I'm in fairly decent shape these days. In my entire life, I've never felt anything like the heat I have felt in both Houston and now Dallas area. I miss Socal.... I really do.

Hey, just for the record, those flower drapes were here when we moved-in... I'm tossing them, honest.

I'm thinking I might do a little of what everybody is suggesting. Will definitely be putting in some workbenches, I already have a couple of tube tv's out their left over from when I switched to digital.... I was getting ready to throw them out, but nothing wrong with them, just old technology.

Bogus, I'm in Texas right now.... its incredibly hot everyday right now. This combo drought / heat-wave they are having is just something not from this world. Therefore, the climate is officially "Freakn HOT !!" Today was the coolest day we have had in 2 weeks by several degrees. It was 104.

If the thing had a crapper, I could and would live in it.... wife wouldn't have to send me to the doghouse, I would voluntarily go.

I am in a Lake community, so I am thinking about buying a small used boat of some sort....it could easily fit in their if I don't go crazy. Was pricing the local marina and they're crazy high around here for a slip, so it'd make sense to keep it at home.

I have thought about a fun old vintage fixer up....I like the really old stuff something from the 20's or thereabouts. But I always tell myself I'm going to go out in the garage and get things done... and then I rarely do, so it'd probably just sit their collecting dust like my vette does nowadays.

Pool table would be fun, but I do not know anybody to play here in this area. The game has no interest with the wife and kid and they wouldn't be much competition anyway.

I was thinking about maybe starting some sort of part time small business from it.... but I don't know what. Everything I know from a professional point of view would be a conflict with my employer to open any type of small business and I have no tangible skills outside of that.

It is the largest playspace I have ever had.... hence, why I am like a kid on Christmas morning playing with his new toy....I just don't know what game to play with my new toy.

Tough decision.

Here are pics of the new ManCave.... I just moved in, so its kind of cluster #@%#@.

I'm actually looking for ideas on what to do with it. There is a lot of space, it is actually a 4 car garage because its 2 deep and it has an elevated 10 ft ceiling.... so there are a lot of possibilities. It is a heated/cooled garage as well as cable/internet ready.

Thinking about a pool table in the back of it.... still leaves room for a small workshop, but not sure. I don't tinker with the vette like I used to nearly as often, so I do not want it as a full-bore car workshop, but then again, maybe the desire will come back with a comfortable work space like this. Any ideas are welcome (As are pictures of what you're talking about)

ManCave is the back garage.

As already said, Jeremy is always dumping on American Cars.... but he just doesn't get them, nor does he know how to drive a car with "torque"..... as soon as he drives into a corner with anything with torque, he calls it wild and uncontrollable because he doesn't know how to finesse the right pedal driving through it. He's used to the highwinding small engine, no torque motors that he can drive through the corners because they simply do not have the torque to cause big problems.

It also bothers me when he compares the American cars against much more expensive cars and pokes at the plastic bumper.... which is the 3rd or 4th time he has done that with a corvette on the show. But, then fails to mention how much cheaper the Corvette was.... even in that video, I don't think he mentioned the Corvette price. (Approxmiately 70,000 lbs = $ 115,000) That Audi R8 with the optional Lambo motor is 100,000 lbs = over $ 160,000) So, you can keep the carbon fiber and give me plastic plus a cool $ 50,000 and even more when compared to the Italian cars. And you'll still outrun them.

I hope the American Top Gear guys notice this and put together a bit of a bite-back show someday and show the cars for their true value.... which the corvette Z06 and ZR-1 are freakn GREAT entry level supercars simply because the price leaks down into the middle class realm, whereas the Italian supercars are out of reach.

Having said all of that, I love that English Top Gear show.... I don't think I've ever missed an episode.

Last time I was at Famoso, the odor of the rotting fruit from those orchards about killed us. Must have been the end of summer, I remember it was hot.

That is interesting....

In regards to spending, to me, its about sacrifice.... if for example we are 20% over budget, then I think the easiest solution is simply abolish exactly 20% of every spending program we have.... bar none. All programs will survive, hence making everybody happy, they'll just be making do with less.

Its what we do right now.... if you lose your job making $ 50k and find a new job making only $ 40k.... what do you do ? You make do with the 20% less.... not always easy, but yet you still survive.

I saw this chart recently from another board.

http://money.cnn.com/2011/02/16/news/ ... my/middle_class/index.htm

Kind of shocked me... I had no idea. I thought the rich were struggling a bit. (Hence, I had no problem with the extension of the Bush tax cuts to the wealthy) Not so sure now, especially considering it doesn't actually appear to be an effective method of increasing the Job market based upon the recent Job reports.

Our company is doing very well in the Industrial Automation market, thus I am doing fairly well. But, its because a few of our competitors fell wayside.... addition by subtraction. If they had stayed in the game at full strength, I'd probably be living on the street by now. Luck of the draw I guess.

Cheapo - try oven cleaner, keep it wet for a while, wipe it up and cover with kitty litter, grind the litter in with your shoe, let it sit at least over night.

Everybody keeps oven cleaner and cheapo Walmart kitty litter in their shop, right?

Well, at least I do.

Thanks Bill.... I'll give that a shot.

That's tough. I used to use floor dry and then use my foot to really grind it in and then sweep it up.......then I would put a big piece of cardboard over it to hide it......

Hopefully someone has a better idea and will chip in soon.

I have a deep oil stain in the garage concrete floor I want to get rid of.... anybody have a method that "actually" works ?

I tried the stuff called "Drive-Up" that O Reilly sells... the picture on the bottle shows a clean garage floor, but the reality was nothing changed... it might be a little duller at best.

Thanks.

Thats nice !! And I know how you feel... for the first time in my life I have a ton of garage space in my new home. Here's a pic.... its hard to tell, but the back garage also has an attached air conditioned workshop on the right.

All of my past homes were limited to 2 car garages.... this is a special treat.

I pretty much agree with most everything Bogus said.... to me its live and let live. I do not understand Homosexuality and as far as I know, I've never met anybody who is gay.... but that doesn't stop me from recognizing that its very important to many people who are good citizens.... that's good enough for me, I hope they get all that they want out of life.

There are a lot of church commercials on television attempting to get people down to their church on Sunday to worship with them.... I'm not offended by those either.

As a note, I'm in the camp that believes people do not have a choice on the matter..... when you look at a pretty girl and you're deeply attracted to what you see, that is wired into you from birth in my opinion. I don't think Gay can be taught or un-taught.

Great Video ! I thoroughly enjoyed it.... I used to race that track when they first opened it up.

I recently bought the GoPro HD Hero.... great camera for motorsports I think. I have only done a quick drivearound with it thus far, but will be shooting video's with it in many different positions over the coming year.

Did you use the suction cup for any shots ? I am worried about it holding at different places on the car. I also got the rollbar clamps included with mine.... looking forward to trying them.

Here's my drivearound.... has a great wide angle, but I don't think I have my sound set-up right because my car sounds really quiet in this video.... but its not, it rattles the windows in the house. I'll figure it out.

This is very sad for me to hear. Years back, Jim was part of a racing email ring with me and a few others.... I think we had exchanged a 1000 emails over the years. I got to know him a bit during that time.... he really wasn't abrasive at all once you got to know him.

He was a darn good bracket racer too.

He will be missed.

You got 89% (50 right out of 56). The average score is 65%

I did the GM-only one..... got 36/56 (64%), I even missed two on the vettes.... got the 60/61 reversed.

I felt like I did good just to get that score.... but maybe not. I didn't know the subtle differences between a lot of those models, so I did what any red-blooded American Man would do when put before a test he didn't study for and nobody was available to cheat on.... I guessed.

I'm not even going to do the non-gm models, I've developed a headache from thinking. I need a cocktail.

I stink.... only got 11 and a few of those were lucky guess's.

But another one or two I would have figured out if I studied the pictures better. Not much experience with that old non-chevy stuff.... What the hell is a NailHead ? I was hoping for questions just about the sbc....

I found this thread on DC:

I would absolutely love to have some carbon fiber parts.... I remember seeing a hood from somewhere a year or two back, looked great, right up until I saw the price for it. I do not remember exactly what they wanted, I think it was several thousand dollars or even more.... ouch.

Does anybody know anything about carbon fiber ? Why is that ? Is the raw material itself ultra expensive or something ? Or is the actual forming process that is super expensive ?

Yeap, many feel the same thing. His superiority complex coupled with just plain old poor loser syndrome has left a lot of people saying the same thing. He is "truly" a whiney brat.

Yeap, I agree. This is why I never partake in any jabbering at FTP in the chat window during the tournament other than to say something like thank you if somebody says good hand or whatever. I have been called a lot of names by people, typically right after you took a pot from them. I just ignore them and stay focused on what I am trying to do.

Fun sport once you figure out how to play it.

I primarily only play Full Tilt at this time.... I like their software interface, I think its better than Pokerstars. But, I have an account at both.

Mike the Mouth is entertaining....as is a lot of the Pro's personalities. In his case, he's in the same boat as Phil Hellmuth.... spoiled little brat club. ..... but entertaining never the less.

I'd love to play on the same table as either... I have with other Pro's, but I have never seen either of those on-line.

I won my 1st on-line Poker tournament..... been to many final tables, but never finished, until this past week. Wasn't a big tournament with only 292 players. But, a victory is sweet.... got 3rd last night in another, should of been 1st or 2nd but made a mental mistake late.

Found mine.... from winning a race event. Wish I would have known, I would have put on my race wheels and made the car look all spiffy.

Thats pretty cool ! A friend of mine had his motor on the cover of Hot Rod several years back with a whole article dedicated to it. (It was a Big Block that made 1050 HP on pump gas naturally aspirated, which was considered hard then)

I got in Vette Magazine a few years back....shocked me, I didn't know they were doing it. Not sure if I still have it though, nor do I remember the year or issue.

I have a couple more tricks up my sleeve, I think there's another .2 and 2 MPH in the current combo with some more tweaks. I think it will eventually go 11.1XX, but I don't know about 10's without some spray.

You're both ahead of the curve.... in my observations of racing over the years, its not very common to see guys running that well with a manual transmission. Most guys in the low 120's trap area are running in the mid to high 11 area and some struggle to even do that. 11.3 puts you in rare company. Hence, you are still dubbed the Gear Rowing forum expert. All forum questions on the subject will be directed in your direction !

Although I will say, an old racing friend was running well into the 10's at 125 mph back around 10 years ago.... but, he was cheating, he had a purpose built racing manual transmission. (Think it was either a Liberty or Lenco, I do not remember which) I remember him saying the tranny cost him over $4000..... that stuck in my mind. I will tell you, he was having more fun racing than the rest of us put together.
