Ran a new best at Fayetteville Motorsports Park today. Track prep was so-so, air was great. DA was about -500 most of the day.

1.6596
7.3581 @ 96.71
11.3706 @ 122.88

Car is a 91 Corvette, 6 speed, basic 383 bottom end, AFR competition port 195's, XFI cam, and an Mseven tune.

Still loving the nitto's. The 1.65 was with 20 PSI in them, a 4-5 second burnout, and a 4000 RPM launch. Dead hook, no bog, and rolled out.

All in all, I'm pretty pleased.

Thanks guys.

I think I'm pretty close to the bottom on the motor, looks like it might be time to spray it. There's a bit more in it on motor with more tire and better short times, but I'm more comfortable with the rear end leaving it at the mid 1.6 level.

The avatar is the first 11 it ever ran. I think it was pretty much stock with a small shot of dope for that pass.

Not here in NC. At other tracks, I think 11.49 or faster requires a cage. I also think that 13.99 or faster requires a helmet at most tracks.

Here in NC, not many of the tracks enforce the rules. There's no tech inspection or anything where we normally run. Most places here, you can run 9's with the top down and your hair on fire if you want.

I think I would have been well into the 12s back in June when I spun a bearing but the failure cut my race day short.

My first run was 13.20 and I had no clue what I was doing. I had a horrible reaction time and spun pretty badly off the line.(I know this is a typical excuse for a slow run... but)
I'm learning... hopefully

The second run hooked up good and felt strong, but that's the one that broke my baby.

I have most of the nitrous stuff kicking around, but it's not on the car. I just moved back to NC from Baltimore, MD and all my car stuff is still in storage. Once I get settled into a house with a garage, the N20 is definitely first on the list.

I wish I would have known you when you were in Baltimore, we could have easily hooked up at Capitol Raceway. Oh well, maybe next time around.

josh have been in contact with nitto tech about the nto5r tire and heres what they said optimum tire temp after the burn out is between 160 and 200 measured at left side center and right side . they said to start at 20lbs and go down in 1/2 lb incraments but go no lower than 15 and i might get tire slip on the rim at 17. nice 60fts .can hardly wait till next sat at fontana sure wish there was a track that did weekly deals

The car seems to hook really well anymore, it's not nearly as sensitive to track conditions, tire pressure, burnout, etc... as it's been in the past. Most of my friends run the bias ply ET streets or ET drags, and those guys are having traction problems before I am, so I'm pretty pleased with the tire/car combo right now. Basically, if it ain't broke, I'm not gonna mess with it. 1.65 is about all I expected out of the tires, and I truthfully don't know if I want to push the rear harder than that, so I'm pretty happy with what the car is doing right now.

The one thing I don't like about the nitto is that if you don't hook it, it doesn't want to recover. When I ran ET streets, if it spun, you could just leave your foot in it and the tire would hook up in short order. Once the nittos are gone, they won't recover until you lift.

Jon, with your car, I would start with 25 PSI and a moderate burnout. I'd lower pressure and possibly increase burnout duration until it did what I wanted it to. Depending on how you are treating the clutch pedal, they may never work for you. I had to work on slowing down my clutch release alot in order to get them to work for me. As a matter of fact, I'm still working on it. I think that my car has potential for a mid 1.5 in it on these tires if I can work the clutch properly. Like I said though, after all I've been through with the rear end, I don't really know that I want it to go faster than mid 1.6's.

Thanks for the compliment Dan, the timeslip/beer bet is still on, right?

It is tough to slow down the clutch release if you are used to dropping it.

I'm far from the gear rowing expert. Jonecap has been 1.51 in a pretty stock M6 C4 and is about to destroy Ranger's C5 Zo6 record, tpi421vette runs some ridiculous times in his M6 C4, etc...

I have a couple more tricks up my sleeve, I think there's another .2 and 2 MPH in the current combo with some more tweaks. I think it will eventually go 11.1XX, but I don't know about 10's without some spray.

Man, I gotta get those Nitto's! Once again, great times. How long will a clutch hold up launching at 4k and letting it slip a bit? You've got that car set up really well to get those 60' times. Way to go!!

josh one thing thats helped me was to put extentions on the rubber snubers over the out knuckles . my car has coilovers and was breaking 1/2 shafts cuz the shafts were going into the negitive angle . i ended up setting them up with1/4 in on the passenger side and just bearly touching on the drivers side so the car launched straight .they are easy to build or you can contact bill boudreau the zfdoc who blueprints the zf tranny also ,i showed him what i came up with and he is now selling them 602 319 6575 . his trannys are amazing he has special detants that makes it almost impossible to hit any other gear than 3rd at the strip .he a great guy and a good friend if you call him tell him i sent ya .i am going to try removing the sway bar and only running 1/2 tank of gas this weekend if it doesnt rain again

You're both ahead of the curve.... in my observations of racing over the years, its not very common to see guys running that well with a manual transmission. Most guys in the low 120's trap area are running in the mid to high 11 area and some struggle to even do that. 11.3 puts you in rare company. Hence, you are still dubbed the Gear Rowing forum expert. All forum questions on the subject will be directed in your direction !

Although I will say, an old racing friend was running well into the 10's at 125 mph back around 10 years ago.... but, he was cheating, he had a purpose built racing manual transmission. (Think it was either a Liberty or Lenco, I do not remember which) I remember him saying the tranny cost him over $4000..... that stuck in my mind. I will tell you, he was having more fun racing than the rest of us put together.

The rear suspension is pretty stock. It's got poly bushings everywhere and solid delrin bushings from the batwing to the body.

It is an FX3 car, but I have replaced the bilsteins with KYB shocks.
