Even getting a 86 catless front Y for my 85 was a trick, because it's not a 50-state legal part.

Did it to upsize to 2.5" and replace a cracked one, and have a 3" round end to adapt to test pipe. Also for CA folks you can get a universal cat that still has the correct EO numbers. All that and the smog tech didn't even look at my $90 etched numbers.

Yeah only 84-85 are interchangeable. Now if you get an entire 86-91 system that will work too but may not pass visual. Anything else requires some fabrication.

Exciting morning here for Californians, I was watching about 30+ lightning strikes out the window. I'm sure that's discouraged on a warning label somewhere.

3 palm trees were hit a few blocks away and caught fire, and some power poles too, causing power outages.

Sun's was out 30 minutes later, back to your regularly scheduled broadcast.

They have a red with tan interior, and a black with red interior. Exact match for an 1986-1987. 1/18 scale. I think they're about $180 though. I used to build models but who's got time for that anymore.

Roof comes off too, but the windows don't seem to go down.

You can even put in your winking headlight to match your real corvette.

It looks like it might even have working lights, not sure.

I don't like adapters much although they are safe.

Spacers are not, IMO. In fact most tire shops will not touch em.

You can run adapters as thin as about 5/8"

IF:

you use wheels with large depressions cast between lug holes, such as most OEM castings.

AND: you have reasonably short studs, not the ones with the starter thread base that extends out another 1/4".

AND: you use very small, low profile open lug nuts to install the adapter.

Otherwise the wheel may contact the adapter nuts or studs and not be secure. The thicker the adapters are the easier it is to clear all of that. Also I would recommend hub-centric adapters that have the false hub sticking out in the middle.

Here you go, good thing I saved this. It shows a DPDT switch, but DPST works as well. If you only have or want one fan on, then a standard SPST switch is all you need.

You gotta put your car year in your sig or posts. There a ton of little differences between years.

"Using the switch will do nothing to battery - nothing. Power to the relay is shut off when you turn the key off."

No. As you said earlier, the relay is always powered. If the car is off and I turn the fan override switch on, it will ground the relay and run the fan and drain the battery.

It's loud enough that you should hear it though unless you're at a rock concert or a race track.

I honestly don't know what their kit is. I used a double pole switch on mine, and it grounds out both fan relays to force them on. And when the switch is off, they operate like stock, and independent from each other. Probably cost $8 at radioshack plus some wire.

Maybe the pets just don't like you. Ungrateful bastards. Liberate them, save on dog food.

Amen to stock engines. Mine has had a foot in the grave for awhile, burns a lot of oil, leaks even more, but yet loves the abuse. The smart 4 wheeler crowd doesn't touch the engine. You don't need an extra 10 or 15 hp here or there as much as you need reliability. If you can manage both, then you are beating the odds.

Yeah, the fan relay has constant 12V to it.

I don't know why GM did that, the fan is totally useless if the engine and water pump aren't spinning.

Foam is no good if you live somewhere hot, feels much warmer than a spring mattress. (I don't have AC though). On the other hand, if you live somewhere cold and want to leave the heat off at night, it's great.

75 cents on the dollar is pretty good for craigslist. I do a lot of business on there moving junk, have bought and sold all my cars on their with exception of the Corvette.

You could put a $100 bill for sale on there and I guarantee someone will offer $60 for it, like clockwork.

I'm amazed at the crap people buy. I sold a 15 year old stereo system with a broken remote sensor and broken/twitchy volume control. Hence, adjusting the volume is a nightmare on a good day. I disclose everything because I don't want it through my window the next day. I think I got $50 for it.

I also don't trust people that avoid meeting at their house or work to sell stuff. If they have to stay anonymous it tells me there's a good chance there's some hidden issue with their item.

Bill the fronts do lock first in normal conditions, but I think I'm pushing the limit a little, so there are times when the rear can still lock up first in the right road conditions. Factory bias is way too conservative, all front, I guess their attorneys are afraid to use the rear brakes.

I've had the ebc ceramics in for a few weeks now, feels like stepping on cotton, no not from air in the system, just not grabby. Not exactly confidence inspiring, but so what, with the aftermarket brakes and bias it should be plenty of braking torque on the street.

I haven't done any emergency stops yet because I want them to grind the rotors clean first for 500 miles or so. They have an abrasive break in coating to hopefully remove the other pad deposits, so I think that is what the dust is from so far, should go away.

And so quiet! Now I can listen to the car rattle even more.

Damn, I got all excited and crawled into my parts bin, but then realized I have the wrong elbow, to the valve cover part.

1st world problems!

It's like that damn mcdonalds monopoly game all over again. Dorman (Help!) has a decent selection of doodads, some of which are the same fit as factory parts, but you'd never find them listed properly for the application. Here's a start, may at least be something that looks closer to stock. I assume you already checked the catalogs for aftermarket replacments.

lb/hr is meaningless if you don't know what psi it's rated at. I'm sure those 19# will do 22# at a higher pressure. I think GM used "24 lb" injectors in 85 and "22 lb" injectors later, just to give you an idea.

Some manufacturers rate at 39psi, some at 43.5psi, etc.

The death penalty is a disaster without even considering the method used. It costs more than locking them up for 40 years. Death row itself is a 20 year sentence. Even convicts that want to be executed have to fight for years against their own public defenders to make it happen.

Unless it can be made wayyy cheaper, then I say ditch it altogether. The drugs are cheap, bullets are cheap, but the bureaucracy to get to that point is not. Not to mention 6 people on death row have been exonerated in the past 15 years, and the backlogs in DNA testing. That doesn't include how ever many others have had reduced sentences after considering new evidence. The legal standard for a death sentence is so high and they still get it wrong.

Don't count your blessings. Around here putting in a 1" water meter on new construction is about $20K in all to the city and county. I just need to upsize mine, but still about $4K in fees for that, plus I'm required to put in a back flow preventer, which will be another $400 or so not counting labor. Also the meter fee is equal to my consumption fee. Yes half my bill is paying for the privilege of being connected.

I have been impressed with their phone techs at Summit. Good to know what you know, and know what you don't. They were over $100 higher on the tires though.

Chuck - since google forced me to have a name instead of just an email.

Yeah, short of researching the exact make and model that used those tire sizes from the factory, some bonehead is going to intervene. I figured "tire swing" would be self explanatory, but I underestimated. A manly-man checkbox on their order form would be a good idea.

This is the nanny state we live in. And to think I could die from a bald tire blowout because they delayed my new tires from shipping!

I should get the treadwear warranty and complain after my next track day.

Arguing with discount tire internet jockeys is probably not the most productive use of time, but damn it's entertaining. I wonder if they use the same lug nut torque database as the brick and mortar stores. My gf's wheel fell off her car after they installed it at a local store, mangled the front end.

Read the email string starting at the bottom about my quest to order some Nittos for my tire swing. It's a very high performance tire swing!

You should also use the correct lug nut torque on your invoices before someone's wheel falls off. It's 100, not 80 ftlbs.

I did mine.

Carefully cut the glue at the lower edge (hidden below dash level) and removed and dyed the fabric.

In hindsight I could have just stuck the whole thing in the pot, plastic and all. I don't know how the old plastic would hold up to boiling water.

I used Rit dye. It took a few rounds of cooking to get them looking black instead of blue. Within 5 years they looked blue again.

*sigh*

My car was bose, the dash plates were solid plastic, but still had the molding for mounting a 4x6 underneath. Actually I remember I removed the fabric so I could cut holes for tweeters.

You do have a manual right? If not, let me know I can upload it to dropbox for you or something. I only have the electrical scanned. I've added hyperlinks to the index and some other parts. It shows all the connectors and all those pinouts.

Non-bose cars had dash speakers up front, and they didn't have speaker amps.

Idk why you're trying to add ABS to it. I can live without it just fine. Stock brakes always worked great for most driving. I've read too many nightmare stories about the ABS on these not bleeding or getting enough pressure to the brakes (albiet mostly with 88+ cars).

On that note I bought a 1/2" crapsman ratchet with swivel head, to keep in my truck for the non-oem lugnuts.

Made in China, complete garbage. The mechanism feels like it has 6 teeth in it, plus slop and doesn't feel right when you flip the lever on it. Craftsman ratchets have never been good since I can remember, but now, don't even bother. I only went there because I had a gift card. I hate sears. The chinese stuff is all mixed in now, you have to check each socket, etc to see where it's from. I guess they make this piece in the USA still but none in the store were.

I finally got aggravate enough to buy new needle nose pliers, Channellock seems to be the highest regarded for pliers in general. Nothing worse than pinching the web of your hand in the pliers because they twisted and slipped of something. Later I'll pick up the entire set. A little hard to pick up a tool for $25 when there's a bunch of $5 ones next to it calling your name.

I would avoid buying needle nose pliers online though. The ones in the store were not all equal, the tips don't line up on some of them.

It was only a matter of time. My coworker has one and the design of the door locks on these is no good. Getting in the car with a dead battery is a joke too. It's like asking people to find the emergency stairs they've never used before in a building on fire that are hidden in the corner of the hallway furthest from the elevator. Stuff like this needs to be 100% intuitive when you're in a panic. I wonder if you can even remove the roof with the windows up.

Took my car in for an alignment and naturally, the door panel is now falling off. Amazing how they manage to break something that I handled just fine for so many years.

This is the first time I didn't do it myself. I'll buy some better tools for it later when I have a flat place to do the work.

We're getting drizzle and clouds here from the hurricane down in Mehico. I got caught in it yesterday on the motorcycle, front end washed out turning on a patch of wet concrete, my heart skipped a beat!

Personally I think he has cocque for brains. There are cheaper LT4s out there, like polo greens, etc. ;) I don't care for the collector edition badge, but the color combo sure is nice.

I'm sure he's fine, article says Robby only "clipped" him, lol. These splatterbrains down there show off seeing how close they can get, even slap the trucks. sucks for the drivers.

But the danger is half the fun. Would you participate or watch if it were life size radio control cars? I wouldn't.

6 speed? I guess the currently available pressure plates are pretty weak. I have an oem zr1 unit in mine and have never had slip at the strip or otherwise although I dont have any power adders either.

Please, please, someone to post this on CF or one of those registry sites. I wonder what the backstory is. Not wrecked.

I'll check mine, it's been pointing steep downhill for a week now, and the valve guides are shot. It does have new seals though which seem to have stopped the startup smoke. On level ground anyways. I thought the heads had drain holes at the very front corners, but maybe it's pooling up in there close to a valve.

In theory you should be able to splice the VSS output and send it separately to the 85 dash and to the new ECM.

There's nothing special about 3rd gear vs any other gear as far as the clutch goes. Other than the tires are more likely to spin before the clutch in lower gears. Although you would have noticed that.

I'm surprised there isn't more! I'm glad there's a place for that type of racing though. Here we're too busy protecting everyone from themselves.

Good move. That year and options is arguably the best of the TPI cars. I'm a little tempted to do that over a 96 collector edition.

I googled myself and it is the ZF6 that is 12x1.0. http://www.corvetteforum.guru/modules ... act&topic_id=7065&forum=1

I don't remember what the 4+3 had.

Worst case you could probably find an adapter at least to run a hose with standard size on the other end of it.

The brakes use mostly 10mm, but there is one line to the MC that is smaller (8 or 9mm). And then you have different thread pitches available for each size as well!

BTW, I would only recommend Earl's bleeders. The check valve on them is below the threads. With Russell/speedbleeder brand, the check is above the threads. So when you let off the pedal, they draw air in through the threads. They are supposed to not do that if you use thread sealant, but its unavoidable. Makes it a bitch to know if in fact you got all the air out when every stroke has new bubbles in it that were introduced from the previous stroke.

Some of these photos make me curious, if it's possible to separate the unibody from the engine and suspension with a 2 post lift, leaving the engine in place. Has anyone heard of this being done? Or would it require cutting up the frame somewhere?
